Whee!
Well. It certainly seems like it could be a glorious day. Lots of wind, less of the acrid smoky smell from last night, possible physical (and emotional, i suppose) contact with my favourite band...
And I've woken up just in time to get about an hour and a half's worth of the Sims-ing before I set off for the loooooooooooooong wait that is inevitable when queuing for an autograph session for an idol you really like.
I will, no doubt, spend all of the waiting time thinking about what I would say in the precious few seconds when said idol (idolS in this case) is face down, scribbling a signature with a (hopefully not) half-dried-up marker.
I will also, no doubt, forget all about what I wanted to say in the moment right before (or after, or never, depending on the idols and their moods) he/she signs, when the cursory small smile is made in the general direction of the excited fan. I will lose it in all manner of star-struckedness, and end up saying something like "Aren't pickles awesome?", or be unable to bully my tongue into saying something audible before my precious few seconds with the idols are over.
On a good day, what I manage to say will have a semblance of what I originally intended to say, but in a ridiculously fast-forwarded manner, thus causing the idol to evoke either one of these reactions:
- blink in confusion
- pretend that he/she actually heard what I said and smile
- hear what I said wrongly but smile anyway because, hey, it has GOT to be a compliment, right?
- completely ignore me 'cos he/she didn't hear it, or didn't bother to listen for it, or don't know what I was trying to say in my tongue-tiedness
- jump up and hug me in a rush of euphoria (this has not happened yet, but will soon.)
If you have been to such autograph sessions, you should understand how I feel about what to say to the idol(s). If not, I invite you to imagine our plight. There's this person you really like, ok, and you've just got a few seconds to say whatever you want to him/her. But what will you say?
If you say something like "I really like you", or "You're so handsome/pretty!", or "I really like your talent"...it's probably something that millions before have said before you, and it also makes you sound kind of shallow. But what else can you say besides all these things? There isn't really a need to stand out, of course, but I imagine it to be some form of a reward for the idol(s) after spending the past few hours signing, smiling, and hearing the same compliments over and over again (of course, they shouldn't mind, but still. hearing something different could be nice). And there is always the chance that you will have a brainwave that will result in you saying something that no one else has said thus far, but it is something that the idol(s) really wanted to hear.
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Ok I'm not usually this starstruck. Not that it's a bad thing, of course. I'm just excited.
Right. I've effectively cut down by Sims-ing time by 15 minutes. Should go now.
Wish me luck! Perhaps I'll have a stroke of genius, and who knows, I might even manage to get it out of my mouth as originally intended, and evoke reaction 5! =)
F.I.R., here I come!
