Kansas Republicans---This Is Your Leader?
Yes, a question for all Kansas Republicans.
Are you aware that your State Majority Leader, Gene Suellentrop, was arrested last week for --drunk driving --driving the wrong way on the highway for TEN MINUTES --speeding, going 90 MILES AN HOUR --dodging police roadblocks --also dodging tire deflation devices the police had put out for him --causing a vehicle accident --also causing property damage and finally --fleeing the police?
Did you know all that? And this is your LEADER?? Really?? Because it really seems like he has great judgment. Right?
Gene Suellentrop---and Republicans, really. Making Wichita and Kansas so very proud.

At the Start of the RNC, Things are not Going Well for the Trumpster
Yes, there have been, are some developments this morning and in the last day or two, both, just before the start of this Republican National Convention. And virtually all of them are---darn it---not good for this Republican Party Donald Trump or his group. Here's the first. It's my favorite. Just broke this morning.
27 former Republican members of Congress announce they'll support Joe Biden over Trump
Jeff Flake, 27 Other Ex-GOP Congress Members Endorse Biden
How great is that?
Yet more Republicans bailing on this psychotic President.
Next up is this from a conservative commentator. It came out yesterday.
The Biden administration needs to pursue every Trump appointee accused of perjury: conservative
According to the never-Trumper, the first thing the new administration needs to do is open up to the public “all documents the Trump administration previously withheld from congressional subpoenas.”
Pretty incredible, coming from, as it says, a conservative. Most, very likely a fellow Republican.
Next up and another I especially enjoy. This came out yesterday.
What's especially great about this one is that the Trumpster is tearing his own political party apart.
Better still, he has no idea he's doing it.
That is fantastic. I've said several or many times, what isn't to hate about this President, what he does and says and his administration, is to love. This is one of the love parts.
The following broke this past Saturday and while we knew it, it's still important to hear and see--and from such an excellent source.
Not done there, God bless her...
Then it came out this morning that another one exiting the very revolving door of this administration.
This next one is very likely good for destroying the Republican Party but very bad if, God and heavens forbid, this idiot were reelected. I don't think any political party has ever done this in the history of our nation. If you didn't think or know the Republican Party has been taken over by Donald Trump, perhaps this will convince you. What would you call a party that has no platform and says whatever it’s leader says is the platform?
This one is partially good for tearing down this President's reelection attempt and to likely also tear down his political party but if this man, this buffoon, should, God and heavens forbid, actually be reelected?
Insane.
- First, I don't think any political party has ever done this in the history of our nation and for good reason.
- Second, this kind of thing happens in Communist countries and dictatorships and banana republics. This doesn't take place in Democracies. It sure as heck doesn't happen here in America. At least, it didn't take place in America until now, with this man, this Donald Trump and his own personal political party.
- Third, I and a lot of us out here are just personally hoping it helps just destroy his reelection campaign and their political party. Once again, proof positive he can no way be reelected, for the good and betterment of the nation, no exaggeration or overstatement.
- Finally on this, if this isn't the epitome of a despot and despotism, what is?
Between this and the fact that 6 of the 12 keynote speakers this week at this RNC have the last name Trump, to what other conclusion are we to come but that this is a despot? He's praised other like Kim Jong Un and the Philippines' Duterte, etc.
Trump family make up half of RNC key note speakers
Finally, there is this great, breaking news this morning. I know we've seen this headline before but this just broke an hour ago. The state of New York just isn't going to let us down.
And so, we go on to their---his--political convention tonight. I think NPR summed it up nicely.

Did You See This Ad About & Against Trump---From a GOP Group?
The pretty famous GOP group, The Lincoln Project ,created this ad on and about this President Donald Trump.
Difficult, if not impossible, to deny.
Vote, America.
Come November, vote.

Congratulations, America
Yes, Congratulations, America. For 8 good, strong, building years, you had an intelligent, deliberative, thoughtful, educated leader you elected in the White House representing and leading you nationally and internationally.
Then, you elected and placed in charge a rash and brash, nearly unthinking, blustering, inexperienced, narcissistic, racist, sexist, misogynistic man to lead you who is also nearly completely lacking in nuance and familiarity with politics or international relations.
How on Earth?

The First 48 Hours of the Debacle That Is the Trump Presidency

How we've begun, how they've begun, in the first two days, the first 48 hours of this new Trump presidential administration. It's at least as bad as we thought/said it would be.
It had an historically low turnout, in terms of Americans being there for the inauguration.
Furthermore, the Women's March on Washington, the next day, was far larger, by multiplications.
Seems not that many of us wanted to even watch on television, either.
TV ratings for Trump inauguration far lower
than for Obama
And not just a little bit lower TV viewership, either.
Mr. Trump himself misrepresented, if not out and out lied, about the numbers and the people there.
FACT CHECK: Trump overstates crowd size
at inaugural
Apparently this is okay for a Republican president to do. Can you imagine if Barack Obama was caught lying to us all in the first two days of his presidency?
It was followed by yet more lies on those numbers attending by Mr. Trump's White House Press Secretary.
Trump Spokesman's Lecture on Media
Accuracy Is Peppered With Lies
Mr. Trump then went to the CIA and gave a really awful speech to staffers there and again, attacked the media, along with trying to talk himself up, "bigly" and repeatedly.
Former Director of the CIA John Brennan was stunned and would have nothing of it.
Former CIA Director John Brennan Was
'Angered' By Trump's CIA Visit
Trump's new Press Secretary, Mr. Spicer, then also scolded the media for "misrepresenting"---read: reporting---the low numbers.
Trump Press Secretary Slams Media
Over Inauguration Crowd Size
There were protests, for the first time in the nation's history, against Mr. Trump and his presidency.
Protesters rally against Trump
around the nation
There were protests, again, for the first time, across the globe, famously, in cities across nations, across the planet, against Mr. Trump and his presidency.
PHOTOS: Millions of Women March
Against Trump on All 7 Continents
Meanwhile, just as we both feared and, in worst cases, predicted, Mr. Trump and his family are, in fact, trying to capitalize on his being in the White House, on his being President. They're prostituting the White House itself and the office of the Presidency.
Thanks, once more, once again, Republicans.
This will no way get better.

Sexist, Republican Missouri Representative
Breaking news today tells of a certain Republican legislator from Missouri who, besides being deep in the pockets of the banking industry, is also a rabid sexist and misogynist. Here's his latest:

Congressman calls on bankers to ‘neuter’ Elizabeth Warren — the ‘Darth Vader’ of Wall Street
Luetkemeyer, who made the remarks at a meeting of the American Bankers Association, is part of a group of lawmakers identified by the Center for Public Integrity as "especially solicitous to the banking industry," Slate noted in 2014. He has raised significant campaign funds from the the finance, insurance, and real estate sector, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
So congratulations, Missouri. Once again, your elected Republican legislator embarrasses himself---and the entire state.

Explaining America and Middle-Class Support for Republicans
I held off one day, in an effort for us all to maybe just simply enjoy Thanksgiving to post something about this terrific article I found yesterday.
Here’s how delusional nostalgia is killing the white working class
There's a great deal of good information here, backed by scientific, sociological studies but I'll just point out a few of the best highlights:
In tandem with the findings of another recent study revealing middle-age, working-class white Americans are the only group in the country whose health and mortality rates are worsening, the survey offers more than just a look at the ideas and attitudes that characterize a slice of the population. It provides a possible diagnosis for what ails, and may very well be killing, an entire demographic.
There have been previous indications—scientific, sociological, and anecdotal—of some of PRRI’s findings. A 2011 Tufts University survey showed white Americans believe they actually experience more racism than African Americans, and a Pew survey from the same year found non-college-educated, working-class whites are the least hopeful group in the country about the future. The rightwing rallying cry to “Make America Great Again” (a recycled political slogan that is now the property of Donald Trump) is proof that a decent portion of white voters think America was at its best when fewer citizens had civil and political rights, at some arbitrary point in this country’s rich history of morally indefensible state-sanctioned injustice, violence and oppression. One cannot avoid noticing that the current culture wars, full of incoming attacks from the right on nearly every civil and human rights gain of the last 60 years, are being fought with renewed vigor by those who want to turn back the hands of time.
Really, this explains so much.
It explains why some people from my own, very deeply middle-class family would buy off on the Republican Party, its platform and so many of the things that come out of the Right Wing. It's just sad. But additionally, it's frustrating, even to the point, at their worst, frightening.
What's also scary and even odd is that these people of the middle-, lower- and working classes who hold these views and vote Right Wing and Republican are also so very deeply proud of their membership in the Right Wing and Republican Party and so proud of their views. And along with being proud, they're also very emotional about their views and opinions and that's where hate and disdain for others with opposing views and even racism can and do, too frequently, jump in.
Here's one part of the studies that's exceptionally disturbing, if not frightening:
It goes on:
On “reverse racism,” half of white Americans overall agree “discrimination against whites is as big a problem today as discrimination against blacks and other minorities.”
This certainly explains things I see even out of our own Kansas City and St. Louis and Springfield, let alone across the nation.
In all, it's stunning. What I don't know is how we change this. I don't know how we educate and inform people of how our nation actually is, today, let alone the total picture of our nation's history that got us to today, to where we are today. These people are adults, after all. They certainly aren't going back to any classroom to study American history they need to know, let alone any current events or civics or sociology classes that could get them up to speed with how things actually are, especially for people of other races in our country.
And in the meantime, Fox and Breitbart and Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh are out there spreading untruths and emotionalism and ugly opinions and racism and all kinds of ugliness and negativity. Making things worse--worst, really--there's a Right Wing, racist, hating nutjob, Donald Trump, who's in first place in opinion polls in next year's presidential race.
Usually, I can end these things with hope.

The problem is also that there are far too many Michael Browns in this country
It's one thing that one young person, a young man, Michael Brown, was unarmed and shot and killed in St. Louis recently, sure. That's bad enough.
But the problem is, there are far, far too many Michael Browns in this nation. It's horrific enough a shooting, let alone a killing takes place once but it happens repeatedly here. As examples, here are just a few recent headlines from around our nation:
North Carolina officer shot unarmed man 10 times
Officer Randall Kerrick faces manslaughter charges on Tuesday for allegedly shooting dead a car crash victim in Charlotte
Teenager's mysterious death evokes painful imagery in North Carolina
Police say they have no evidence of foul play in the hanging death of black teenager Lennon Lacy. But in a case with disturbing racial overtones, his family are left with haunting questions
Gym mat death of Ga. teen still being questioned
Gym mat death of Ga. teen still being questioned
White Dallas man shoots 8-year-old black boy in the face while playing 'tag'
And then there's Trayvon Martin and all the others we've already forgotten.
How is this possible?
How are all these things and all these incidents and all these horrors possible?
And yes, how are they possible even once, let along repeatedly?
Who are we that we're capable of these things, time and again, too, especially after all this time?

Just another day in grossly unfair, unjust, even murderous America
Check out last evening's news:
Texas 'sovereign citizen' sets dumpster fire, reports self missing to set up police ambush
So in our recent past few weeks, we've had the following take place in this country:
1. AK-47 fired at cops, arson and smoke bombs - STILL ALIVE
2. Hold a BB gun at Walmart - DEAD
3. Unarmed 18-year-old jaywalker - DEAD
2. Hold a BB gun at Walmart - DEAD
3. Unarmed 18-year-old jaywalker - DEAD
Guess which two, of the above, were black.

What government representative right now could be against more Americans working?
So President Obama came up with an idea for America:
And naturally, everyone in the Right Wing--the Republicans, Tea Party and all the associated and non-associated haters out there--will come out squarely against him and this idea. But unless you simply don't want this president to be successful, how could ANY current government representative in Washington be against this? Especially right now?
For one, America rather famously needs the infrastructure work.
We've already had not one but two bridges in the nation collapse in the last few years.
Interstate 70, all across the state, from St. Louis and Illinois on the East to Kansas City and Kansas on the West, needs updating, widening, improving and resurfacing, as just one fantastic example.
Secondly, and maybe more importantly, Americans need the jobs. Since 2008, our nation and our nation's people have suffered through the worst economic downturn in 80 years, since the Great Depression. The unemployment rate skyrocketed and is still too high. This, then, would be a place to get people back to work, it seems clear.
Third and finally, our nation's economy needs the boost. We have a lackluster economy now, at best and demand needs to be increased. Give people work, put money back in their pockets and see if demand doesn't increase. It only makes simple economic sense.
As proof or all this, particularly those last two points above, here's a report from NPR this morning:
Jobless Claims Jump Up, Orders For Durable Goods Fall Off
But wait for it.
Somehow, Republicans like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and even our local Republican politicians will come out agin' it.
'Cuz HE'S fer it.
President Obama and all Democrats, on both state and federal levels, should implore the Republicans, shame them, if it comes to that, into supporting this effort and as soon as possible.
No one should be against getting more Americans back to work.
And this work, infrastructure, at that.

Missouri's Senator Blunt in the news, bigtime -- just not in a good way
Yessiree, Missouri's own Senator Roy Blunt is getting sent up today, in the news, on the internets and at The Raw Story, Daily Kos and Crooks and Liars. The people in that political party just keep saying more and more ignorant things:

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) on Sunday suggested that President Barack Obama’s health care law would make some people so lazy that they didn’t want to work at all.
Last week, Republicans used a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report that said 2.3 million less hours would be worked after the Affordable Care Act was implemented to claim that the law was destroying jobs.
A Washington Post fact check, however, pointed out that access to health care meant that people would no longer be forced to work if their only reason for working was to receive insurance benefits.
But on Sunday, Blunt stuck to the Republican talking point, saying that providing health care “can’t be a good idea” if it allowed people who were only working for health insurance benefits to leave the workforce.
“I think any law you pass that discourages people from working can’t be a good idea,” the Missouri Republican asserted. “Why would we wanna do that? Why would we think that’s a good thing? How does that allow people to prepare for the time when they don’t work?”
Seriously, it's difficult to believe he or anyone privately even thinks these things, let alone believes them but to then say them, outloud and then, not just aloud but on very public stages like network television, It's stunning, yet it keeps happening, ala' Todd Akin.

Next up, new stupid from the Kansas State Capitol
Just saw this today:
Kansas representative introduces bill legalizing discrimination
And who would propose and support inequality but the "small government", "freedom-loving" Republicans?
A bit from the article:
Republicans in the Kansas House of Representatives haveintroduced a bill that would make it legal for both government employees and private individuals to discriminate against same-sex couples on religious grounds.
According to House Bill 2453, “no individual or religious entity shall be required by any governmental entity” to “provide any services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods, or privileges” if “it would be contrary to the sincerely held religious beliefs of the individual or religious entity regarding sex or gender.”
If the bill becomes law, anyone who claims to have a religious objection to same-sex marriage would not be compelled to “treat any marriage, domestic partnership, civil union or similar arrangement as valid.”
Equality in Kansas? In America?

Suddenly Jimmy Carter looks far more prescient, doesn't he?
There is a report out today of a secret military analysis of the world oil markets that says we may have already hit the "peak oil" moment or, if we haven't, that it will happen this year and what that means for the world: German military report: Peak oil could lead to collapse of democracy Peak oil has happened or will happen some time around this year, and its consequences could threaten the continued survival of democratic governments, says a secret Germany military report that was leaked online.
According to Der Spiegel, the report from a think-tank inside the German military warns that shrinking global oil supplies will threaten the world's economic foundations and possibly lead to mass-scale upheaval within the next 15 to 30 years. As if that weren't enough, the article points out similar information may be going through Britain, as well: Last Sunday, the UK Observer reported that Britain's Department of Energy and Climate Change is refusing to release documents related to peak oil, even though, as the Observer noted, previously released documents argue the veil of secrecy around the issue is probably "not good." Turns out now former President Jimmy Carter was far more wise while he was in the White House after all, then, doesn't it? At the time, people laughed at him because he carried his own luggage (which, admittedly, was pretty dumb and unnecessary, I'll give you that), but also for asking us to wear sweaters and turn down our furnace thermostats. If this report is true, he had his eye much more on the bigger picture for the country than he's been given credit. If we had done what Pres. Carter had said and continued to wean ourselves off oil, the likelihood that we'd be in the Middle East, sending soldiers there to fight and some to die, and then blowing it up and rebuilding it--essentially wasting billions of dollars in resources--that likelihood would have been reduced greatly. So here's to you, Jimmy Carter. We apologize for not listening. (On a more local note for the Kansas City metropolitan area--suddenly that mass transit idea doesn't seem so stupid and unnecessary, does it?)
