10%

Big day in my little Weight Watching world.  I've now lost 10% of my body weight.  18 pounds to be exact.

According to Weight Watchers, this milestone is important for many reasons including the following:
A Healthier Heart - lower cholesterol and reduced blood pressure
Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes - improves your body's ability to use the insulin it makes
More Pep - feeling better and having more energy

We all know I need that energy to keep up with these monkeys!

Weight Watchers Week 4

I wanted to check in and post how Weight Watchers has been going.  I'm on week 4 and despite a girls night complete with just a little ice cream, a steak dinner with my parents (I ate my veggies), and Super Bowl festivities (I know, I know) I still lost 1 pound this week.  Hooray!  So that brings my total to just over 10 pounds AND I have lost 5% of my weight.  Yahoo!

I'm still feeling great, creative with my food, and upbeat!  10 pounds down DEFINITELY feels good.

Just an observation

We've been doing this healthy eating thing for over a week and a half now.

Last night for dinner I made pita bread pizza's for our family which everyone appeared to love.  I was tired of making a salad to go with, so I put out a platter of sliced cucumber, tomato and red bell pepper.  I was shocked when my big boys ate the vegetables and didn't even ask for dip.  I never can get them to eat salad so I was flabbergasted when I saw Spencer grab a piece of red bell pepper and announce that it was "yummy!"

Also... I've noticed that in general Kent is just feeling better.  He has more energy and feels stronger and healthier.  He does miss his hamburgers and ordering whatever sounded best when he goes to a restaurant.  I'm trying to encourage him to order what he wants and just eat half or to not order a salad (which I know he doesn't enjoy) but to meet himself halfway... maybe order something that's not the worst thing on the menu but not a salad.  I just don't want him to get burnt out on this... I want us to start a lifetime of eating healthy and not to treat this like a diet.

It's just nice to see that this change in eating habits is doing good things in the life of my family.  It's already paying off.  Yippee!

Weight Watchers - Week 1

Week one went really well.  I don't plan on blogging each and every weigh in but will post on my milestones from time to time.  I lost 5 pounds this week!  Yay!  I feel like I'm off to a good start and know it will slow down... waaaaaaaaay down.  But I'm already feeling more comfortable and am still excited about my new relationship with food.

Of course this morning I'm so tired that I'm trying to decide if I want to go to Dutch Brothers for a yummy coffee treat instead of having breakfast.  That's right... I am tired enough to trade food for a good latte!  This is due to two things:  my obsession with Jack Bauer and with a baby who thinks he needs to wake up 3 times in the night to nurse.  Ack!

It's time

Today I have started Weight Watchers.  Getting the baby weight off this time around has been much harder than I have found it to be in the past.  I've also put myself really low on the priority list, eating convenience foods on the fly.   I've determined it's time.

It's time to demonstrate a good relationship with food to my boys - to see Mom eating balanced meals, proper portions and healthy items.
It's time to show my boys that exercise is a vital part of life
It's time for my clothes to feel good and to get into some of those great pieces in my closet!
It's time to feel confident and pretty for my husband
It's time to do this for me... so I can live a long and healthy, vibrant life

My first meeting is tonight.  I pray that this is just the beginning of a stronger and healthier me.  And that I will have the determination to continue on this path.  Here I go!
