It's a Quarter after One I'm all alone and I need you now ♫

Okay, so it's actually 5:43 pm, and I'm just home alone.

Today, Friday, April 16th, 2010, my family decided to have a little 'trip' up to UCD to pick up my brother.

But it's a school day.

My younger brother and sister were more than delighted to skip half a day (even though I don't think it's a good idea)

However, I didn't want to have to do an essay on another day or miss a lesson of math (I hate math. But I need to get a good grade)

So I went to school.

I know, how lame of me.

BUT there was also an extra credit movie for English that I needed to watch. You don't know how precious those extra 15 points are to me and my grade (Which is an A- at the moment T____T)

I just got back 25 minutes ago so VIVE LA WEEKEND! :DDD

I promise to post more in the next two weeks but not on the third week from now.

Because that's AP testing week....

awww yeahhhhhh

So I need to get my study on as well. (awww yeaahh.. okay I'll stop doing that)

I miss you guys! Blogging has just been put on hold for the past two weeks because of school.

Oh and completely off topic: DRAMA (not the theatrical kind)

Okay so this is just a short tangent about high school drama at the moment.

Tomorrow, me and my friends are going to be having our 'anti-prom' (instead of spending over 100 dollars for Junior Prom -which I can't go to anyway due to parents- and the overall lameness of prom, we're having our own alternative!)

We'll be going to a restaurant, then mini-golfing (fun times!) :D

But...

It's also a slash event for one of my friend's birthday. Keep this in mind.

During spring break, while studying with another friend -who is not part of my usual group of friends- I happened to mention anti-prom and she asked if she could come.

I said yes.

THEN, when I informed my cohorts this week after waiting a week (more like forgetting), turns out the birthday gal DISLIKES my study buddy. And will not be on speaking terms during the shindig.

And another things is that study buddy isn't really friends with my friends and it'll be an overall awkward time since I'll have to be a mediator.

I've thought about cancelling, but we've planned this for so long that it would be nonsensical to do so...

I mean, you can only have ANTI-PROM on the DAY OF Prom!

So we're just going to go ahead with the plans and me and my other friend will try to lessen the awkwardness...

-sigh- If only we could all just get over our grudges.

Um yeah, I think my drama bit is much more longer than my overall update.

Fail.

Anywho, give me advice in the comments S'IL VOUS PLAIT!

I think I've just lost a little bit of faith in humanity

February 18th, 2010

Are you serious?

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

You're (the media) telling me, that a psycho who crashed his plane into a federal building is

NOT a terrorist? That he was totally justified in committing this treacherous act?

Or that it was just a 'suicide' attempt by a 'disgruntled engineer' ?

Bullshit!

I can distinctly remember the words used towards the same 'disgruntled psychiatrist' who shot up the Fort Hood military base, a couple months back.

"Muslim" "ties to Al-Qaeda" "Jihad"

And here we have news networks tip toeing around using the word 'terrorist' against one of their own.

Using neutral descriptions so as not to reveal his 'background' (White, Male)

Kind of like last Friday's school shootings, right? (Even that article is ridiculous, pressures on tenure process? That woman was CRAZY! She KILLED her brother 20 years ago!)

... you know, I actually have no words for the anger I feel inside (not angry enough to go shooting up places however, because I'd automatically be linked with terrorist groups because ya know, of my own background -snark-)

Just think for a moment if these two recent incidents of violence (Premeditated! Not Random!) were committed by a minority or a muslim (or a Muslim who is a minority! GASP)

How much news coverage do you think would be happening? How much speculation on their background and dubious ties would be made?

This, folks, is why I'm starting to think the world is inherently unjust.

With such privilege keeping people from being seen as the horrible murderers they are and letting them possibly get away with it ( "But he/she was such a NICE guy/girl)

And the same privilege making automatic suspicions against myself and my people (PoCs, Muslims), why even bother doing good? (or believing in good)

Peace out,
Modest Justice (rethinking the justice in this country)

[Author's Note: I'm not depressed at how fucked up this country is, (excuse my language) or even how this world is. Just doing a large -facepalm- for the media seeing as how once again, by leaving out certain details and painting a totally different picture of events, it only reinforces certain stereotypes against a people when said people aren't even present.
Don't worry about my mental health readers, lol, it's all good]

I did some Retail Therapy

Today I was feeling a bit down (I have no idea why) so I decided to shop online for a bit.
Forever 21 specifically.

Under 20 dollars? Heck yes (I may be shopping but I'm still a cheapskate)

I went shopping with my Aunt yesterday and because some stores are taking away maxi dresses (not in style anymore lol) There are some maxi dresses, previously 24.99 USD, going away for $5.

Yes, you heard me.

5 DOLLARS! And since you know I love blogging about my recessionista finds, I bought it of course!

But anywho, what I bought today was a basic trapeze knit tank going for 6 bucks. I didn't want to spend alot, I just wanted to 'feel better' (isn't that what retail therapy's about?)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Other News:
My school's MSA (Muslim Student Association) started today, but technically next week. And basically, me and misadventure buddy (if you hadn't read my past posts, shame on yee!, she's mentioned in all of my masjid posts) run it.

We think of the topics each week, we try to get everything organized AND do the announcements so that the little scared, lost, freshman muslims know where to go.

Do I want to be the president, again, this year?

No, not really.

Contrary to what you'd think, being the president isn't always an exciting job. No one said it'd be easy.

People interrupt during meetings
, people forget there ARE meetings, I'm held responsible for getting all materials organized, I'm supposed to be informative AND entertaining (it's really hard for me apparently), we're supposed to have 'goals'.

UGH.

But nonetheless, I keep the club going because, if not me, who? The club would surely die like it did my freshman year when other people were running it (sooo not calling out anyone's siblings)

I'd like to think of it as community service to the underserviced high school muslims, lol.

Don't take my ranting seriously, I love running it, with all of it's flaws, it's just getting the cooperation and exciting 'things to learn' that's the tough part.

Do you guys have any suggestions for what we should throughout the year besides meeting once a week to just 'chill'?

I've been cheating on Dairy

Yes Dairy, I have to make my affair public! Over the years you have been the substance in my cereals, the tall glass of milk for my oreos, essentially, you were the peanut butter to my jelly (or milk to my cookie).

No one in this glass-o-milk drinkin' country would ever think to discard you and replace with another.
-tear-
But I couldn't resist!

Who is it you ask? Who have I replaced my beverage of choice with?

Well, it's vanilla flavored.

-gasp-!

No, not Soy Milk! I don't like the aftertaste!

It's..
It's...

ALMOND MILK!

-faint-

Okay real story:
When I wrote that '10 things' tag, it brought back all the benefits of Vegeterianism, so although I love my goat meat too much, I thought about the pros/cons of milk.
I mean really, why do you think children only have to be breastfeed until 2? Because after then we really do not need milk, plain and simple. Do any of us see a goat drinking cows milk? Or a goat drinking any goat milk after their a kid? Nope.
And whatever 'health' benefits you get from milk don't seem to be much.

Look at the 'Got Milk' campaign, it claims that milk gives you PLENTY of calcium. As in a whole days worth. The recommended daily allowance of calcium is approximately 800-1000 mg, although 1200 mg is ideal, according to the most recent update by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Calcium comprises a crucial aspect of human health. Not only is calcium needed for muscle contraction, but calcium lends to our bone structure, bone recovery (re-calcification), and bone health as well. In short, we need calcium to live. And a bunch of other vitamins and minerals but we're discussing milk here.

According to the "Not Milk" campaign, milk contains less calcium per given amount than other foods. Meaning, we could get better souces somewhere else than terrorize a poor cow by impregnating it time and time again just so you could get your grubby paws on a glass of milk. So this end of milk consuming is a health and animal rights issue with me. But I'm not saying all dairy farmers treat their cows bad, some do and either way the milk isn't helping me a bit.

I just think drinking cow's milk isn't natural for human beings. Which is why a good portion of humans are lactose intolerant. Lactose intolerance can result from two things: either through a natural enzyme deficiency, which prevents the body from digesting milk sugars, or through an allergy to milk itself. Thankfully I'm not lactose intolerant (because even if I give up milk, I'd still be eating other dairy products) but now plenty of people who are.

Hormones in my milk is another issue. (However if you buy organic than that's much better) Many dairy producers use rBGH as a way to increase milk production in their cows, resulting in up to 20% more production. However, the hormone causes udder inflammation in cows, which can lead to the contamination of the milk from secreted pus common in udder inflammation. Also, antibiotics used to treat inflammation have been discovered in trace amounts in the milk. Such contamination leads many people to wonder whether milk is safe for daily human consumption.

Overall, I'm not here to convert you to 'leave milk'-ism but just to share something new and tasty that I've tried out and enjoy :D Milk does do a lot of good and has some negative effects, (and is totally not necessary for a proper diet when there are other fruits and vegetables with much more calcium, but hey that's just my opinion)so thanks for reading this rather long post/rant! Have a nice day :D

'You have 25 missed calls'

You know when you want to enjoy some down-time, relaxation, full-on me time?

And then that annoying (yet beloved) titanic ringtone comes on and you realize someone's calling.

They pop your little bubble of a staycation? (for those of us too broke to afford a real one)

That's been happening to me since the end of school. Which was only 4 days ago!

I mean really people, do you miss me that much? I know my presence and conversation is the very thing you live off (my vanity is typing for me today), but can't you part with me for at least a week before the "OMIGOD WHERE THE FLIPPIN FUDGE CAKES HAVE YOU GONE?!" messages fill my inbox?!

Forgive me for being anti-social you guys.

But I just want to get away from having to speak with living breathing people, besides my family members and even then I shall only grunt and nod, for this weekend. Then you may bombard me with graduation party invites, movie goings and other ho-down shindigs m'kay? (Speaking of which, I can still feel the beat from last night's graduation party #2, only 3 more to go... joy & free food for a week)

I like to get lost in my own imaginary world of books and movies. I even try to shy away from the computer, what with the facebook and the msn and the aim and all the other insta-connections that guarantee mindless conversations with people you've exchanged SNs with for the sole purpose of writing something down in their yearbook. By the way, I'll see you next year so what's the point in wasting precious ink? I also think all of this technology is causing us humans to have an inability to have normal conversations face to face. I'd much rather take a walk around a park and have nice chat then to speak on the cellphone with anyone. I'm that philosophical.

I get that I'm digressing a lot, but it's fun to provide back stories and opinions when you're telling something.. look! I'm digressing at the moment!

So I got a bunch of books from the library, including the four I have to read for Honors English next year. (Holy crap did I turn in the permission slip for it? -thinks- yes I did, thank the Lord)

Since I'm rambling I might as well get to the point.

I hate talking on the phone with friends. Unless I initiate the call and your a person I really like to have interesting conversations with, chances are I'll either ignore the call or talk for about 15 minutes then make up some lame excuse to hang the freak up. Another reason I don't bother is because I'm afraid of developing a brain tumor from the unknown carcinogens in cellphone radiation.

That's also why I don't carry my cellphone in my pocket and hence miss most calls if it's on vibrate.

My phone also broke that way, so I'm left with no screen but I still know who's calling from the touch screen part. Poor baby, may Venus (it's an LG Venus) rest in peace.

OH okay, I typed a lot, that's basically it.

STOP CALLING ME AND JUST KNOCK ON MY DAMN DOOR, THEN WE CAN TALK!

Do not apply if smart

I'm pissed right now.

So, previously, before today, I had "ModestJustice is going to be a working girl!" on the right hand side and it was because I had applied for this Summer Youth Work Program thingy on March.

Up until a few days ago, they had not called me back, so I felt pretty dismal and all that hopeless stuff.

Then on the way home from school wednesday (it ended yesterday with my brother graduating... woo!)they called and scheduled a job testing for this afternoon.

Sweet! Imma get the job, thought I.

I dressed up all nice and what not (dress pants anyone?)and my father drove me there.

Being the perfect job-searcher that I am, I was 15 minutes early.

When it was 12 o'clock, the other hopefuls and I shuffled into a small room and began taking a test on basic reading and math.

Jeez, one of the questions was 'This sign says Do Not Enter what does it tell you to do?'

?!

I was sure I'd pass this test and was one of the first ones done. -cough-

So the tester guy told us to stop and after he took the tests for correction, they started calling students out one by one.

I was thinking to myself, "Crap! They called those two asian guys,(I'm not trying to be racist)they did look/are pretty smart, I hope I get the job, I hope I get the job!"

Then they called my name (!)

I jumped out of my seat and walked across the room, thinking "Hell yeah suckers! I just got the job"

My dad was out in the lobby waiting for me and I was escorted into a hallway to talk with one of the directors:

"Congratulations! You had one of the highest scores!"

"Hell yes I did, I kicked those kids' butts." (Okay I really didn't say that, but you bet I was thinking it)

"But, unfortunately, we are only accepting candidates with an average proficiency level of 7th grade or lower."

WHAT?!

"Hey! Look at the brightside, you're very good academically but not what were searching for, thank you!"

...So basically, I scored too well?

I mean if you wanted me to flunk, you could've just asked!

The worst part was, this is a job for working in libraries, City Hall, Community Pools, e.t.c. If the kids who make this job can't even read a 'Do Not Enter' sign, I fear for the public.

My father, however, laughed at the absurdity of the time wasted when they could've just written on the application: "Do not apply if smart" And they should have, would've saved me the anger -shakes fist-

And all this time, isn't society encouraging us to get an education to get a job?

Life Sucks. FML

Stop whining!

What up home dogs?

You know, sometimes, I'm glad few people in my actual life (indeed I do have a life)know about my blog. This semi-anonymity is great because if I ever do one of those 'emo' boo-hoo my fish got stuck in the garbage disposer and I can't get him out posts, they won't be there to share in my despair.

Which leads to another thing. You know those friends on Facebook/Myspace/Bloggerland w.e who always tell you their problems through their status'sss? Or blog about their secret emo life which isn't a secret anymore because they have the link to their blog RIGHT ON their status or profile?

No offense kiddies, but no one cares.

No one wants to hear about your problems unless they're your CLOSE friend and not some chatter-er you picked off of MSN or Aim. That post is actually making it awkward and the pity you'll be getting isn't the kind you want. Geez that sounds mean, but I'm not picking on anyone specific (however I do have a few in mind). Everyone's life sucks. Hearing about yours isn't going to anything about the major suckiness of this world.

If you're going to complain, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! :D

-Friendly reminder from ModestJustice, Just in case you forgot!

P.S: I just got my first viewer(probably more I never check) from Israel! Maybe their muslim :D Maybe it happens to be in Palestine where they found internet! FREE FREE PALESTINE! (If not, I'm open to all viewers)

Twitter

I hate twitter!

Okay so it seems like I hate on a lot of things, but this is totally an exception!

Twitter is a website where when you create an account you can post little update status' on your life.

Typical twitter:Just got back from feeding the dog, and now I'll be cooking dinner!

Honestly, who cares what your doing?

Do people really spend their time on the computer 'following' their friends to see what they're doing at every waking moment? Seriously?! And I thought Facebook was invasive.

Please people, I urge you to not waste your time on Twitter unless you're a gossip columnist looking at Lindsey Lohan's status due to her breakup with Sam. (I was flipping the channel and happened to see it -cough-E!News-cough-)

Twitter sucks like Twilight, and they both happen to start with a "T" :)

White Privilege

On Friday, my high school's Sociology class had a race.

The first one to the top of the hill got $10. Mucho money right? ...well if your a high schooler it means a lot.

The Sociology teacher stood at the top of the hill holding the bill in his outstretched hand. All of the students were lined up, equally, on the starting line.

Before the race began ,however, he asked the students some questions and if the question applied to them they would take a number of steps forward or backward, for example:

If you do not know the PG&E bill in your household, please take 2 steps forward.

If a member in your family has ever been arrested, take one step back.

or

If you have ever been to Europe, Disney World, or Hawaii twice or more, take a step forward.

Not surprisingly, most minority students stayed behind, or took steps back

The questions soon got personal.

If you've ever been discriminated based on your race, religion or gender please take a step back

If you've ever tried to assimilate to fit in with the majority, take a step back

Soon, as one student commented, he couldn't go back any further.

By the time the teacher was done asking, he simply said:

"On your mark, get set, go."

Now if you take a minute to think about it, who would you think won?

Caucasians were in the front, minorities way in the back. A few were in the middle.
This wasn't a stab at white people but to show how the world really functions.

An upperclassmen who took the class stated that she and her friends stayed behind deciding that it was pointless to even try.

Some, like my older brother, actually ran, and came up 2nd place. But at least he tried.

When a white girl won in my brother's class and listened to the sobbing discussion that took place after, she felt guilty and gave the money back.

"Don't feel guilty." The teacher said, "Because guilt will only lead to anger. The only way you can fix this is by educating the next generation."

And I wholeheartedly agree. It'd be pointless to shrug off all this negativity in the world and say "Well, I don't believe this is right, if we were in an ideal world..." We're not.

I will probably be discriminated against many times in my life, and be put down due to who I am and what I stand for. But this class 'race' resonated in me, it told me that I'll never be good enough. That no matter how hard I try, I will never be as good as the majority (who happen to white) in this country. I'm not implying hatred toward anyone, but the naivete that I've grown up with has been snatched from me.

I do know the PG&E bill in my house, and no I've never left the country before on some sort of extravagant vacation. I am not expecting to be getting a special 'tutor' for my SATs or a car for graduation (well at least not a new one). The BS schools teach now a days, that I can be whatever I want and peace and love and crap ISN'T TRUE.

The real world doesn't care where you graduated from or with what honors if they have a lighter skinned applicant to compare you with. As wikipedia puts it, "a person benefiting from white privilege does not necessarily hold racist beliefs or prejudices himself and can be, as is often the case, unaware of his privilege."

And I am not angry at that person, I am angry at the system 'the MAN' that wishes to hold me down, and make me ignorant just for being different. But times are a changin' and if we educate ourselves and others, racism prejudice and 'white privilege' can and will be eradicated from society.

But on a lighter note, once I do apply for a job, I'll be more likely to get hired due to my "white-sounding" name.

Houris

*The opinions expressed in this post are of the author solely and yes, she is in her right mind right now And although this topic may be a bit 'adult' technically the age of the author is not fully known therefore she speaks without consequences. If you don't like anti-man talk click the red button on your right. Yeah I'm lookin at you kid.*

"Oh sister! You are so beautiful! Like a houri from Jannah!"

Save it, please.

Once in a while I get irked at things I hear about Islam so that I have to double check the information because if I don't like it it's probably not true.

Like those pesky houris.

"Men will get as many women as they like in Jannah."

"Even if they had 4 in this world?"

"Especially if they had 4."

"What about the women? Don't they get some boy toy?"

-eyes narrow- "If a woman wants something like that, they're probably not going to even make it to Jannah!"

Women, as they always have, lose out in Jannah. Or so those misogynistic Imams say.

I mean really, if you look throughout history they're always been this double standards pertaining to men and women.

Men can rule countries, women are too stupid. Men can stay out till midnight, women are seen as trouble makers if they even dare to come home at 8. Men can be promiscuous and called 'libertines', promiscuous women are 'whores' (I read some 16th century books over the weekend >.>) Even though fornication is bad for both sexes.

But you're thinking, "No sister, men and women are different. They have an edge over us.

Puh-leeze, no man has an edge over me when it comes to determining who gets to go to school, have a job or even go somewhere alone.

Strength is one thing, intellect is another.

Don't bother asking which gender is smarter, that question will rage on forever meaning it's basically pointless.

Back to the main topic, in the Qur'an (not the hadiths) It simply says that we'll have other partners -no specifics to whom or how many- and that men and women will be reunited with their spouses... and then some.

I'm not going to accept those highly graphic hadiths about where men basically get to tap as much as they want with whoever they want (I even heard that the virgin boys in Jannah were for the men. THE MEN? WHY WOULD THEY NEED BOYS?! I mean I know homosexuality is haram here but allowed over there? -shudder- sorry I'm straight through this life and the next) and women get to stay in their palaces all day looking ready for their husband after he comes home from doing God knows what.

Who said being with your spouse for eternity is fun? Sometimes death is an escape for those spouses! (Okay don't start throwing popcorn at me because I don't have a husband, heck I can't even get married yet -legally in the U.S that is ;D-)

And to nearly conclude this post here is one reply from some random forum I googled:

"Asalaam wr wb women will ONLY be with one man who she will be 100% satisfied with and the happiest with in jannah just like she is happy and satisfied with one man in this world!
It does not befit a women to be with more than one man in Jannah just like it does not befit her to be with more than one man in this world! She will have young boy servants not men!
There is no such thing as sexism in Islam that is a term created by the kufaar and it applies to their society them because of the sexist societies which they live in where they are lowered so much and have no dignity or respect!
Look at history and you would know that Islam has given women MORE freedom, rights, dignity and respect than ANY other nation in the history of this earth! Jazakalah"

Hold up- who died and made you God? Even though God can't die astagfurillah. So it does not 'befit' a woman to have more than one man but a guy can sleep with just about anyone right? You want to give more power to yourself with hadiths and keep the women locked in a tiny cupboard because they can control themselves (true)unlike you, you filthy animal. Like that T.I song "You can have whatever you like" I'll be sure to get whatever I want. And if that happens to be more than just my husband THAN SO BE IT!

"Just because I hide my sexuality doesn't mean I don't have any!"

Bollywood, WHAT HAPPENED?

Baby, what happened? I used to love your movies, but now they're trash!

Bollywood vs Hollywood
"The principal difference between American and Indian commercial cinema is that Indian films usually feature periodic song-and-dance routines which, in a good movie, are expected to move the story forward (in mediocre movies, they are poorly integrated into the story). Songs are sung by professional play-back singers and lip-synched by dancing actors and actresses.

Indian commercial films, in whatever regional center they are made, tend to be long; they are usually two to three hours long, with an intermission. They tend to be melodramatic and sentimental, but may also feature romance, comedy, action, suspense, and other generic elements. "

Indian Cinema, is continuously criticized, for its lack of creativity and its over usage of the same plot line. Movies like Kaho Naa Pyar Hai one of Indian Cinema`s biggest hits, had a storyline which was used for generations. Critics also point out that almost every Drama film in India, is mainly centered around family, and that each of there dramas are extremely similar to those of soap operas.

Ain't that the truth, but I still love watching them!

"The major criticism however is that Indian Cinema, gives no leverage to new directors, or actors. Most who are given the chance, have to mold out of their conventional styles, and have to transform to the thoughts of the producers, who don`t care for the artistic aspect of films, but more for the commercial aspect of it, hence the introduction of Item Numbers, and skimpily clad women. Indian Cinema is at its lowest level at the moment, and even though a few are trying to lift it up, it will take the entire consensus of both the Audiences and the producers, to make Indian Cinema on par with those like the American, British, French, Chinese or Iranian films, which are widely credited to be the best in both art as well as in commercialism."

That hits the nail on the head. The reason why I don't enjoy Indian films like I used to oh so many years ago, is the westernization of the films. Do I honestly watch Indian movies just so I could see the same kissing scenes like that of many American films? Of course not! I love Indian culture and the way the had this chaste form of 'love', it showed that you didn't have to make out in the backseat of a car to show the audience you're in love. Sure the whole neck hugging thing was weird, and the plot was always the same, but they had culture!

However, Bollywood is starting to fall from my good graces, for it's like of plot and cheesy hits. Ugly aur Pagli was really stupid and nothing at all compared to Black (Indian Helen Keller) or the Golden 90s with actresses such as Madhuri Dixit, Kajol or Krishna Kapoor. These days, there are so many new actresses with sucky films, I don't bother to learn their names. Mallika Sherawat got nothin on them!

New things such as 'sex' scenes, and Item girls really make me hate Hindi films these days. Nowadays, I usually watch Iranian films or lesser known tamil films.

If I wanted some cheap American film -yes bollywood I'm equating your movies to that- then I could just go the local Century theaters and see some stupid movie there!

Valentine's Day

Ew

Now this is definitely a commercialized holiday. Besides the fact that it is unIslamic, why would you want to celebrate your loved ones only ONCE a year? Being the greedy person I secretly am, I refuse to spend $3 for a V-Day gram for my friends, but the real excuse I say is: "It's against my religion" They still buy me something but don't expect a rose back.

Shouldn't everyday be love day (or something to that effect)? Why conform with mainstream society on a pointless holiday. I mean, now I can't go to the mall because PDA is going to be everywhere! Darn you, you disgusting couples! I try not to gag while eating my popcorn in the theaters.

Heck, I even found this Anti-Valentine's day poem hilarious:

"Hearts and roses and kisses galore
What the hell is all that s**t for?
People get mushy and start acting queer.
It is definitely the most annoying day of the year".

Hahaha! But most people around the world are rejecting these kind of over-done, materialistic, lonely holidays.

Not to say I'm lonely

Or that I'm taken

Nor am I advertising my singleness on the web

Sorry, not looking.

Moving on, I propose we go back to the olden days. Where the guy and girl court with a chaperone. You know, the girl has her nicest bonnet on -but no sequins!- and they go for a nice carriage ride while the guy feeds the horse carrots. Maybe they'll go to a petting zoo afterwards! All the while being followed by their Mother, Father, Auntie and other irrelevant adults.
But no flirting!
It'll be like the haram police took over this holiday.

Anywho, time to throw away my gelatin-filled chocolate box and wilted rose.

Then I shall immerse myself into the 80s film "Pretty in Pink" while crying into a bucket of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and singing "My Heart will go on"

Boo-freakin-hoo

You know you're in a recession when...

Teachers start moonlighting as prostitutes on Craig's list.

Shall I say it again?

You know you're in a recession when teachers start moonlighting as prostitutes on Craig's list.

One more time.

You know you're in a recession when teachers start moonlighting as prostitutes on Craig's list.

...I think I just threw up a little.

Now seriously, a 4th grade teacher at an elementary school in Bellafontaine, Ohio -Amber Carter, 35- left school early Tuesday (taking half a sick day) and was arrested in a motel parking lot in Bellefontaine.

Are you kidding me?
She whored herself out to pay the rent? It's kind of scary to see the extent of the economic downturn and its toll on the American people -shiver-

What next, Grannies out on the corners, flashing their girdles at paying eyes so they can afford health care?
"OBAMA, you have some explainin to do!" Desi Arnaz (Holy sh- He's back from the dead?!)

And while we're on the topic of teachers, and ... 'side jobs' apparently, your potential workplace CAN find you on the web. Once they know you have a Facebook and Myspace, all they have to do is type in your name and -Voila!- all of your personal information is displayed on their high-definition Dell computers. Unless you're smart enough to change your last name and make your profile private.

But most aren't.

Yes, your drunken pictures on the coast of Puerto Rico are against Company policy, and we're going to have to let you go Chuck. Oh and tell Sidney we don't like how she listed she can "dance like a stripper" on her 'About Me' and that she's fired too. Have a nice day :D

The moral of this extremely long tangent?
Don't do stuff that can land you in trouble, especially if you're a teacher idiot.

"So as I-" -eyes glaze over- "Ugh, nevermind"

You know when you talk to certain people, guys particularly, and after addressing the issue and begin to discuss something else you can see the eyes glazing over and further contact is pointless/meaningless?

I hate that.

It isn't limited to colleagues either. No, it happens in the place where I'm supposed to be loved and listened to most. Sorry not Disneyland but my very own home.

Whenever I bring a topic to my Dad and seek his blessings (a.k.a permission to go or his 'insight') that's basically where the attentiveness ends. After, if I bring up the weather or something, he usually turns his head to whatever he was previously doing. He says his listening but I'm sure he isn't. Same thing with my older brother. I remember talking to a guy in one of my classes, I brought this up. You know what he said? I'll tell you what he said! "Well duh, guys only listen to a girl when they're in love with them." Which so isn't true! Of course I don't want any of them to be 'in love' with me, but who hasn't seen a chick flick. The guys are inattentive jerks, not that I base my perceptions of men on chick flicks, they're supposed to be like that.

But it's completely frustrating so I decide to not talk to guys at all! I shouldn't have been speaking with them in the first place and now I know why. They're complete idiots. (No offense to you married ladies) Now if I have any problem with school I just go straight to my friends. Who are all girls. We love to talk right? And we always listen to one another no matter what nonsense we're spouting. It's pretty fun.

Lesson in life:
Never speak to guys, they're a bunch of ADHD Xbox loving losers.

However, that doesn't mean I'll live the rest of my life feeding 27 cats and watching "Days of Our Lives"

'No Communities'

France on alert for Gaza hate messages

PARIS: French authorities will increase their checks on television, radio and the Internet to prevent any hate messages prompted by the conflict in Gaza from spreading, Prime Minister Francois Fillon has said.
France has seen an increase in primarily anti-Semitic acts apparently related to Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip.
“Even a cursory look at the Internet is enough to find blogs ... carrying messages of incredible violence, whether against Israel or against the Palestinians,” Fillon said after a meeting with ministers on fighting racism and anti-Semitism.
He said he had asked the CSA, the broadcast authority, and an expert on issues of freedom of expression on the Internet to conduct more thorough checks on what was being published.
Fillon also said the courts were primed to take vigorous action against any perpetrators of hate crimes related to Gaza.
France has the biggest Muslim and Jewish communities in Europe.
“We’re not in Israel, we’re not in Palestine, we’re in France. And in France there are no communities because we’re all citizens equal before the law,” Fillon said. – Reuters

"...there are no communities because we’re all citizens equal before the law,”

What? So now, you've stripped your citizens of their culture? Of who they are and their right to come together as a community? France, you never cease to amuse me. With your bans and your intolerance I think you should be checking your own gov't for hate crimes. You're supposed to have Freedom of Religion and Freedom from Religion. How dare you deny people to practice their beliefs outside their house. Sometimes France makes America look better. Ironically, I'm learning french in school, but besides that the world leadership is full of hypocrisy.

Yeah, I said it. The UN sucks. World Leaders in general can kiss my- Hijab! Them and their double standards, I can't believe any of them anymore. How can you put a muslim website on the "Watch List" but let websites like 'Jihab-watch.org' and 'TheReligionfoPeace.com' keep spewing their libel! It angers me when people get their facts wrong and the media backs them up. Heads up morons, You can't call an arab anti-semitic because THEY'RE SEMITES TOO.

Okay I should calm down. But I can't help feeling powerless and I can't do anything to stop these people. It's bringing down the Ummah, and how sad that a tragedy has to bring us together. How many more children must die before the 'Muslims Countries' get their acts together or for Obama to see that America has to stop funding the guns for Israel? Another thing about Obama, I remember wearing a t-shirt on the day of the election filled with hope after the horrendous 8 years. But I sure got a smack in the face from reality (all thanks due to Allah swt) when I saw that he's not going to help muslims. It isn't even in his power to take stand now is it? What good would it do when our country is in the middle of an economic collapse for him to "condemn". That's all he can do when half of America's youth is fighting a pointless worth in Iraq.

But it's sad to see the American people believing everything the Government spoon feeds them.

Ignorance

So surprise, surprise.
Highschoolers apparently do not know anything about the world apart from their self-absorbed lives. It bring me to tears just knowing that while we are losing our voices to make up for those whose voices are oppressed, most of the teenagers are just living life not caring about anything happening halfway across the globe. This apathy is sickening, and the conditioning we have all gotten throughout our lives because of the way the media has portrayed the devastation of the world only angers me.
"Oh, another tsunami? I hope those poor dears are alright, -switches channel-"
"Not this again! When will these silly terrorists know bombing isn't the way? What's on MTV?"
Where do these kids get their ignorance from? I'm well aware the teachers know and most other adults, but these are high schoolers! A few years from being thrust unto the real world and they can barely grasp the concept of current events. Now I'm not bashing my peers, okay in a way I'm ranting, but indifference is a horrible state. Haven't many genocides and humanitarian crises been muffled because other countries were UNAWARE or indifferent to the sufferings of another. A'outhobillah, but I will not stand for it. I've changed my attitude and opinions slowly this past month and now that I see all the corruption in this world, I refuse to sit quietly like everyone else and accept everything for what it is.

"Whosoever of you sees an wrong action, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart – and that is the weakest of faith." Hadith in al-Bukhari

Insh'allah the MSAs of every high school will try to raise awareness and bring some change to the poor condition of our hearts. My school's MSA will insh'allah try
to raise awareness and attend protests. Alhamdulillah, I may have missed the protest this Sunday but there is another this weekend. But I also know that by protesting, we may just be annoying the ole' US because we all know how they stand on this issue. I should make a sign that says "GET OFF YOUR BUTTS MUSLIM COUNTRIES, THIS THE UMMAH THAT IS SUFFERING!" Heck, I think I should, it seems fitting for the occasion. Donations should be made not just opinions or well-thought out sentences. Also boycotting McDonalds and Starbucks really won't help but it's still good to avoid them for your health!

YA ALLAH! May we all see the errors of our selfish ways and insh'allah may the people of Palestine and our fellow muslim brothers and sisters around the world be relieved from oppression so that we can be united as one.
Amin
