Halloween Decor with Miss Kate Cuttables and Jen's Crafty Place

Hi!! Jenny from Jen's Crafty Place here. It is that time again to start thinking about Halloween Decor!! I have a great and VERY EASY project today to jump start your Halloween decorating.

But first, hop on over to Miss Kate Cuttables to get today's FREEBIE!!

I first got my file from Miss Kate Cuttables.  I chose the "Witch In Moon"  file but just about any file will work with this method. I put my image on the Silhouette Cameo 3 program mat and sized it as large as it would go to fit my 12x12 inch mat.

I cut out my image and weeded the image and set it aside. Then I proceeded to cut 3 more layers the exact same way. I used regular black 12x12 inch cardstock. Since I wanted my decor to be more sturdy I needed more layers. (If you had some mat board, you could sandwich that between two sheets of paper and that would be nice and sturdy. Just run a black marker around the edges to hide the mat board edge.)

I added glue to my last image and layered them together. If you have more then one mat, I would layer as I went. It is easier to glue while it is still on the mat because you can toss any paper that the glue seeps out on. This is also easier to line up the image.

Before I added my last layer, I added a piece of fishing line to the top as a hanger. I chose to run the line down her head and hat and up to the second ring around the moon for more stability.

At this point, you could be done, but I decided to add a bit more bling to my piece.

I just put some glue down and then sprinkled on some black glitter. Let them dry and this decor is finished!!  Time to make some more!!

I only placed it in front of the door to photo, hang it anywhere you want a bit of Halloween!

Flower Cut Cards

Today is a fun and easy project from Miss Kate Cuttables and me! I used a great technique which can be used on any design. I used it on some flowers.

Before we get started on the project, don't forget to get your DAILY FREEBIE over at Miss Kate Cuttables!

I took the file, "Daisy Flower Flourishes" I opened it up in my Silhouette program. I ungrouped the flowers and took the daisy with the red center and placed it on my mat. I sized the flower to the size I wanted and removed the area where the red center was. I then used my "slice" tool and cut away all the bottoms of the petals so all that was left was arches in the form of a flower. I then selected it all and grouped them. Save this file. Next take a rectangle file for your card front and arrange the new cut file you made where ever you want to cut the daisies. I made some of them large and some small. You can arrange them any way you would like, in a row, in a circle, all over or just one large daisy.
This is a fun way to make cut files and use your files a bit differently then just cutting the file as is.

After I got all my card fronts cut, I lifted up the petals by bending at the base. Make sure you do good, clean cuts. Double cuts are a good idea to make your bending easier. Now all you have to do is add some scrap papers behind the cuts and mount onto a card base. I decided to cut my card front a bit smaller to add some interest. I added buttons, faux enamel dots and jelly dots to my cards. You can add anything you would like to the centers. Other ideas are: dimensional paint, puff paints, beads, pearls, brads, eyelets, enamel paints, cardstock punches or just color the centers with markers!

I hope you enjoy my technique and try it for yourself!! Until next time, Happy Crafting!!

Faux Chalkboard with Miss Kate Cuttables

Hi, Jenny from Jen's Crafty Place for today's Miss Kate's project. I know it is February but I love Halloween projects and to me it is never too early to start making Halloween décor.

I love the look of the chalkboard but I have to admit, I am no good at keeping my writing centered and straight. I decided to try a faux chalkboard and I think it came out awesome! Let me know what you think!

I used Miss Kate Cuttables Halloween Night Word Art. Instead of using my cutter in my Cameo, I inserted a Uni-bal signo white gel pen. So instead of cutting the file, the white gel pen wrote out the file. As you can see above, this is what it looks like. The white pen did not draw it without skips but I wasn't going for a solid look. I wanted it to look like a chalk board sketch so I was happy. I used an 8.5x11 piece of black cardstock. You can also use green for the faux chalkboard look. After I got my sketch I colored it in with chalk pencils. If you don't have the chalk pencils, just use chalk pieces.

When I was finished, I framed it and I was done!
Very easy and I love the results!
Give faux chalkboard a try either with this design or a different one. Please post pics below and share them with all of us!
Until next time, Happy Crafting!!

Roses in Vase

Jenny from Jen's Crafty Place here with a "LOVE" card.

I know Valentine's day is over but this card can be used for more then just Valentine's day. Anytime you want to show someone you care with a special card, this is the one!

Before I start on how I made this card, don't forget to stop by Miss Kate Cuttables today and every day for your free svg file!

I choose the Miss Kate Cuttables, "Roses in Vase" for my main image. I cut the image out after I sized the image to fit my A2 card. Use your favorite program to size it to any size you wish. You can make it larger for scrapbooking pages and smaller for note cards. Just cutting out one rose can be fun on a note card or love note. I used my favorite program Make the Cut and then saved my svg and imported it into Silhouette Cameo program to cut.

As I mentioned it is an A2 size card meaning it is 4.25 x 5.5 in finished size.  I took a piece of black cardstock 8.5 x 5.5 and scored at 4.25. This is my card base. I then took a piece of white cardstock and ran it though my Sizzix machine with an embossing folder with some hearts on it. This piece measures 4 x 5.25 in. I adhered it to my card front with tape runner. Next, I cut out all my roses and my vase pieces. I used vellum to cut out the top layer of my vase to resemble my glass vase. The heart I used for the sentiment was just a shape I had in my cutting files. I cut that at 2.5 inch and the inner white heart at 2.25 inches.

After all the pieces were cut and assembled, I added some shimmer to my roses with a Wink of Stella pen. It is hard to see in the pictures but trust me, they shimmer!! I glued all the pieces together and added it on my card front with some foam adhesive to give it some dimension. I stamped my sentiment on the hearts and then worked on the inside of the card.

On the inside I cut a white heart at 4 inches to stamp my sentiment. Any stamp set or even a hand written message would be great.

That's it! I hope you like this Love Card and hope you make one for someone special in your life! Happy Crafting!!
