back to our regularly scheduled life.

we just got back from a lovely and very fun-filled vacation.

we did disneyland.

it was awesome.

I think everyone who lives in this house, is a little homesick for all things disney.

but I now realize that this transition from vacation to real life is a lot harder than I thought.  it is also made more difficult when I realize that there are a few things that I neglected to do before we left..

like plug the latest product releases from jessica sprague.

so, let’s rewind, pretend that it is last monday, and instead of getting ready to surprise the kiddos, pack all of their stuff, clean the house and all that junk, I will do what I am supposed to, and show you what I made:

first up I will show off jodie lee’s latest water color paper..

hiking copy

I saw this dreamy stuff and was transported to last fall, when we hiked the “u” near our house.  the colors were too perfect.

(click on layout for full credits.)

I have been dreaming up some hybrid projects to use this stuff on, print it off on linen look paper..  it would be lovely, I am sure.

then there was the big one.

I based ashley’s birthday party around this next one.

splendid fiins “trick or treat” practically yelled my name, winked, and then grinned at me.  it knew it fit the bill for our halloween themed birthday party.

invites:

a little lesson learned, that I will share with you for free:

don’t put names (even though it is so fun, personal, not to mention stinking cute) on a first grader’s birthday invites.  you are better off to leave those babies blank, that way, your child doesn’t distribute them a child with a different name and thus, have a buttload of confusion on your hands when parents are calling you and asking if their child was really invited because their invite doesn’t have their name on it.  oh, an then you get to make more, because a few kiddos don’t get their invites due to the whole, “not give them to the right kid” issue.

we had a great time though..

we put together goodie bags with fun stuff from target’s dollar area, candy was a necessary addition, and I put together these little notebooks using splendid fiin’s “trick or treat” line.

october 004

they were pretty darn cute.

october 007

I added these little tags for ashley to sign, a little thank you to all her friends.

(splendid fiins again, and I used the font mtf “jotted”.)

october 010

In the way of decorations, I used my old felt ghosts..

october 1225

some balloons (which all the right colors were sold out, should have anticipated that one..), and this banner that I threw together the day of.

(polka-dot paper from splendid fiins, some good old cardstock, ric-rack, and letters I cut out with my cricut + storybook cartridge.)

october 1248

I employed the old dry ice + rootbeer in the plastic cauldron trick.

october 1226

played “pin the eyebrow on frank”, ashley’s new boyfriend.  we made him out of foamcore, and vinyl.  his eyebrow was some black felt with double stick tape on the back.

october 1228

this game was also a last minute add, but I saw it on a local tv program, and had to do it!

I took three kiddos inside, and wrapped them up with crepe paper, just like a mummy.  as I wrapped, I hid three cards with one letter on them, in different places in the wrapping.  as their teams unwrapped them, the found the cards, and the first team to spell their spooky word, won!

I used words like bat, boo, and cat.

(I got the idea from this fun mom blogger who has a ton of fun ideas.)

october 1231

and what’s a party with out cake and ice cream?

I prepared cupcakes and frosting a head of time, portioned out the frosting in little disposable cups with a plastic knife, and put out candies for them to decorate with.

I found a genius idea for ice cream serving at a birthday party on pinterest, and I will be using that one again and again I tell you.

before your party, like an hour, you take your regular old cupcake liners, place them in your muffin tin, and scoop your ice cream into them.  pop the tin, with the portions of ice cream in it, back in your freezer and when it’s cake + ice cream time, bring them out, and give one portion to each child.  it was a breeze!

october 1239

ash had a great party, and I must confess, it is the first birthday party I have ever thrown.  I will do it again.  it was so much fun, but next time, I might just request no gifts be brought.  I know, I am so mean, but we are seriously overrun here.

A New Year...

2009..
It's here.. 2008 is officially gone, in the past. So many things have happened in this last year, some I am not ready to let go of, but I am excited to see what the future has in store for my little family.. for my extended family too!
I have bee thinking long and hard about my goals, for the past year and things I want to accomplish this new year. I have been doing this since October. I busted out my little notebook, the trusty one I keep where I will always see it, in my craft room. I like to evaluate where I am. I did alright last year. Most of my goals hit a hard spot, that was when Peyton was born, and most of my goals have to do with getting back on track..
Just a few examples:
-EXCERCISE!! Fitted black skirt, need I say more? (Go here if you have a similar goal.. :) I think every woman does..)
-Read B.O.M., again.
-Get back to Monday being cleaning day..
-Scrapbook 144 layouts this year (I'll keep track of my progress on the other blog..)
-SAVE more $.. better..
-Be a better friend!!
I have also been thinking about my word for the year.. Jaclyn challenged us all last year; Ali Edwards has had some reminders too.. I've been thinking for a while now. I am still not settled on one.. can I have a word for each room in my home?..
We did nothing of too much excitement this year for New Year's Eve.. no nursing = my "Great (not so great really) Aunt Scarlet" coming for a visit that has been on again, off again for two weeks now.. I wasn't feeling too good. Am starting to feel it again right.. now.. We stayed in, made homemade pizza, we think we have Zucca figured out (very yummy, order the mahgahrita..) and watched a couple of movies, let the kids do some noise makers, at 9 pm, and sent them to bed. I crocheted a new hat for Peyton and we stayed up long enough to greet the new year at midnight, then we crashed. I have to say that I am thankful it wasn't spent the way it was last new year's eve.. in the InstaCare, with a three year old who stuck a popcorn kernel up her right nostril.. not so fun.
We let our celebration get going today, when all of Mer's family could be together. We played Rock Band, Family Guy trivia, and Catch Phrase. Yummy food was involved, and some good laughs, as usual.Me singing and Joe on the drums... yes, a pic of Joe on a blog, mine, because I can!
Sophie during her crazy awesome drum solo.. this lefty rocked it!
Even Dixon got in on the rockin' action.. no pic of Darlene?!Hottie-Body Merrill..
And Jaclyn said she sucked...
Peyton even got in on some vocals...
We are now enjoying a little slumber party with cute little Bubba-Gos (aka Sophie).
Oh, yeah, I am doing "a picture a day" too this year.. it looked like so much fun when Jacks did it last year, I didn't want to start a month late, so I decided that I'll just start this year. :)
I guess I'll aim for taking my tree down sometime this weekend.. I am having a hard time giving in to the fact that Christmas is really done and gone.. it makes me sad! I miss it. I knew for sure I was a hormonal woman yesterday when I was watching "Elf", and at the very end, when James Caan finally starts singing, and Santa's sleigh flies over the crowd, I dang near cried!! Sheesh! I really am hormonal, aren't I?!

Halloweening...

We had a fun, kinda chilly, little sprinkle-y Halloween. Merrill took the girls out for a while... I didn't go because Peyton fell asleep during the traditional chili dinner. Just as well, Ash "missed me", and ended-up wanting to come home early. Notice that Lynn doesn't have any glitter on her dress? That's because I got the fun of washing her dress 4 times trying to get forklift grease out of it from the trunk-or-treat the night before. She says that she wishes she'd have listened when I told her not to play on dad's forklift. Thanks Christie for the goo be gone.. it did the trick. I owe you a bottle!
We didn't have too big a showing. I started to give out lots of candy, just to get rid of it...
I already have Thanksgiving decorations up, and the birthday countdown calendar.. Lynnie-lou will soon be 6!!!
We enjoyed the last night of the season at Lagoon last night. We really made the most of it too.
Feeling kind down today... but I guess we all have those days...
Maybe I just need some PANCAKES...

Halloween prep...

Getting all ready for Halloween!
Tonight we had the Elders over for dinner. The girls were so excited to feed the missionaries. We had to add the leafs to the table to make room for 6 and a high chair. As I was spreading the table, Lynn asked what I was doing. When I explained, she said, "Mom, won't the leaves fall right through that big hole?" I tried to explain what they looked like, how it would work, but decided to show her instead. So I went and got the leafs. She giggled and said, "Mom, I thought they were all green, like the ones that grow on trees! They wouldn't be strong enough to put our plates on!"
Funny girl... she read a few pages of, "Green Eggs and Ham" to me tonight.. smart girl too!We copped-out this year and just went to the grocery store to get our pumpkins.. I know, how fin is that?! Well, quite frankly, we ran out of time. If they were going to be carved BEFORE Halloween, we had to buy them today, without the aid of daddy-o, which meant, me + 3 kids = easy way (shopping cart). Let me just say, very sarcastically, HUGE SELECTION! So many different sizes and shapes! How on earth did we choose in less than 5 whole minutes?
Loved watching the girls expression as they dug into the pumpkins for the first time, again. Lynn always cracks me up with how disgusting it must be to her.
Ashley is just too wild. She loves flinging it and making a mess.
We braided Lynn's hair tonight in preparation for her curly Elizabeth Swan hair for her classroom party tomorrow... that's right. I took the easy way out again today... You won't see me standing around like a sucker curling her hair tomorrow with a Peyton-Pissy-Pants... did I not mention her gums are swollen? Did I not mention that she has been rather unhappy from about, oh, say... 3 pm on? I do believe that the Elders are going to wait quite a while before starting their familes after they are released...

Cousin Halloween Party...

We had our cousin Halloween party yesterday.
I think the kids had fun.
We had some games, prizes to follow those games, and food.
They watched "Scary Tales" after dinner...
And of course, they were all so cute and fun together! We were missing a few cousins though...
