Why does this man still have a cc permit?
cross-post by Dog Gone from Penigma
We
are asked by the gun hugger crowd who insist on intruding their
firearms everywhere in our public space to believe that they are safe,
trustworthy, responsible.
But that does not appear to be the case, which is why Gov. Dayton signed legislation that in Minnesota takes away the guns of domestic abusers, child abusers, and those with protective orders.
Courtesy of the NRA, in most states, gun rights trump the right to be safe from bad guys with guns, against whom a person has an order of protection, including allowing them to carry concealed weapons.
One such person, 32 year old Brandon J. Thompson, demonstrated how much of a scofflaw he is, by threatening speaker of the House John Boehner, second behind Joe Biden to the authority of the position of president of the United States. He admitted to making the threats when arrested by the FBI.
He has had 5 restraining orders against him since 2001.
It makes no sense that someone who has presented a sufficient threat that an order of protection has been issued even once is trusted to safely carry a concealed firearm, much less 5 of them. The existence of 5 Orders of Protection should strongly argue that this is a person who has a problem with issues like anger and intimidation.
So far, a few of the lefty echo chamber hacks are trying to portray Thompson as a lefty/'liberul' for having threatened Boehner (over the issue of cutting off unemployment benefits extensions). Thompson specifically threatened to shoot John Boehner with an assault rifle.
But there is nothing that I can identify about Thompson that indicates either that he was politically active, much less that he was liberal. Boehner has routinely upset and even antagonized many on the right, including over this issue, and given the predominance of conservatives in the part of Indiana where Thompson lives, it is more likely that to the extent he has any political orientation, he is conservative, given the racial makeup of the area, and that it has been strongly republican dating back to at least 1983.
As noted from USA Today's coverage:
I have a better idea; let's not have those who habitually threaten violence be allowed to be armed in the 1st place. Those who threaten people should never be allowed to possess a firearm of any kind, permanently, period. Threatening people should be an automatic disqualification for having a firearm --- which would distinctly thin out the number of people who currently both possess one or more firearms, and who too-frequently threaten others, including for disagreeing with them - as we saw during the same period with the threats made by gun-huggers towards a gun store owner for wanting to offer 'smart' guns for sale.
It's time for a new rule, nationwide one threat of violence or intimidation with a firearm -- no more firearm, EVER, much less a cc permit.

“Free speech is the cornerstone of our democracy but threats of violence have no place in our civil society,” said Joseph H. Hogsett, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, in a statement announcing the arrest. “People who are inclined to make them need to know that they violate the law and they will be aggressively pursued.”

Indiana Governor Signs Pro-gun Bill into Law, Protects Guns in School Parking Lots
Gov. Mike Pence (R) expanded gun rights in Indiana this week by signing SB229 into law (Photo Credit: Indiana Courier Journal)

On Wednesday, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) signed SB229 into law, which changes the way gun laws are enforced in school parking lots.
The new law comes from Senate Bill 229, which allows otherwise legal gun owners to have a firearm on school property, parking lots specifically, so long as it’s locked inside their vehicle.
This protects the Second Amendment rights of parents and attendees at school functions, such as sporting events.
“Governor Pence believes in the right to keep and bear arms and that this is a common sense reform of the law that accomplishes the goal of keeping parents and law-abiding citizens from being charged with a felony when they pick their kids up at school or go to cheer on the local basketball team,” said a statement from the governor’s office.
Authored by state Senators James Tomes, (R-D49), Brent Steele, (R-D44), and Johnny Nugent, (R-D43),SB229, removes from Indiana law the provision which makes possession of firearms on school property is a felony.
Moving forward, legal gun owners will be able to bring firearms onto school property so long as they are secured and out of plain sight inside vehicles.

Indiana Responsible Gun Owner Finally Charged in Boy's Death
Local news reports further to our earlier post in which we reported no charges yet.
The father of a Greensburg boy who died earlier this month in an accidental shooting at his home, will face two felony charges.
The Greensburg Daily News reports this morning that 34-year-old Jason Forshee was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Class A felony, and dangerous control of a child, a Class C felony.
13-year-old Craig Roberts was shot to death by a younger sibling on March 11 in their home. Police accuse Forshee of leaving an M4 rifle unattended while he was cleaning it, according to the newspaper. He told police that he had removed the magazine, but didn't realize there was a round still in the chamber. Forshee said he had left the room to talk with Craig's mother when he heard the shot.

Indiana 13-Year-old Dead - No Charges
A Greensburg boy died Tuesday night in what police believe was an accidental shooting at his home.
Craig Roberts, a 13-year-old Greensburg Junior High School students was shot and killed in a home in the 1000 block of Carver Street, according to our news-gathering partners at RTV6.
Police are still sorting out details, but a neighbor told the TV station that a father had been cleaning his gun in his home Tuesday night when he put it down and left the room for a few moments. That's when a younger sibling picked up the gun and shot his brother.
This marks the second shooting death of a student at the school in the last three weeks. In the last incident, 14-year-old Tyler Hall was killed by his father in a murder-suicide.

Lawful Indiana Gun Owner Shoots Wife over Custody Dispute
Christopher Justice
Local news reports
The shooting of a woman Tuesday outside a Northwestside day care center followed a long-running custody battle that came to a head last week when a judge awarded custody of the couple’s child to her father — the alleged shooter.
But that court order didn’t end the custody fight between Shirley Justice and her ex-husband Christopher Justice.
A court document filed Tuesday asserts that Shirley Justice had refused to return the child after a Valentine’s Day visit.
n attorney for Christopher Justice was in court filing that document — an effort to force her to immediately hand over the child — just as the shooting occurred. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say Shirley Justice, 31, was shot multiple times about 7:20 a.m. in the parking lot of Eagle View KinderCare Learning Center, 6750 Eagle View Drive.
She was reported in critical condition at IU Methodist Hospital.
Shirley Justice had dropped off the couple’s 6-year-old daughter and her other child at the day care moments before she was shot near her car. Police were still looking late Tuesday for Christopher Justice, 33.
According to police, Shirley Justice told officers at the scene that her ex-husband shot her.

Fort Wayne Indiana Shooting Leaves Two Wounded
Local news reports
A man is in critical condition after a shooting at Sports & Spirits, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Officers were called to the bar and found two victims inside suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. There were multiple shell casings outside and the southern-most windows were riddled with bullets, according to police.
One victim, an adult male, was in critical condition and taken to a hospital. The other victim, an adult female, was taken to a hospital in fair condition, police said.
A preliminary investigation said the suspects, who were identified by witnesses and surveillance video, were escorted out of the bar after a disturbance then began to shoot through the window.
Today's shooting was not the first at the bar this year A shooting in the parking lot in March left a man and woman with serious injuries. Police at the time said an altercation in the lot of Sports & Spirits preceded the shooting.
A man was shot and critically injured near the bar in September 2012 and another in October 2011, according to The Journal Gazette archives.

More on the Aubry Peters Killing in Indiana
Aubrey Peters
All Voices
Jacob Travis McDaniel, 20, reportedly took the clip out of the gun he used to slay the 16-year-old girl before pointing it at her chest and pulling the trigger. However, the little numbskull didn't check the chamber. It's a pretty universally known fact that there is usually "one in the chamber" when it comes to handguns, so either this guy is a complete nincompoop, or this accident wasn't as accidental as everyone is accepting it to be.
The situation reportedly took place when McDaniel was showing off his guns, undoubtedly a happy new gun owner who had not been given the proper gun owner education that he should have been required to have before even operating a gun, much less owning one. It's reported that he wanted Aubrey to hold the handgun that ended up killing her, but she refused -- wisely declining because she felt uncomfortable. Jacob McDaniel then reportedly took out the clip, aimed and fired.
"What just happened?"
According to the ABC report, the young idiot gun owner is being charged with reckless homicide. I'm not sure what the author of the above article wants, first degree murder, maybe?

3-Year-old Indiana Boy Dead - No Charges Yet
Local news with video
IMPD officials say a 3-year-old boy has died after he was shot in the head Saturday evening.
The boy was with his parents and 4-year-old sister when it happened.
Police say the shooting appears to have been accidental. Detectives believed the child pulled the gun off of the kitchen counter and shot himself, officials said.
"It's just heart-wrenching," Officer Chris Wilburn said. "You don't want to take that call. You don't want to respond to something like [that]... Decent people, you know, their hearts break, especially during this time of year."
No criminal charges were filed as of Sunday. Police say detectives were still investigating the case on Sunday evening. Once they finish their investigation, it will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for review.
"Decent people" don't leave a gun on the kitchen table where a 3-year-old can get it. Only idiot gun owners do that.

Indiana Lawful Gun Owner Shoots his Son Accidentally Outside Gun Shop
An accidental shooting last night in Vermillion County.
It happened in the parking lot of Darrel’s Custom Firearms in Cayuga around 7p.m.
Police say 20 year old William Simonton, of Newport, was accidentally shot in the leg by his father.
Apparently Charles Simonton had just purchased the gun and it discharged as he was leaning into his truck.
You realize dear old dad probably had a concealed carry permit. And if he did, he counts as one of the superior ones who commit fewer crimes than the rest of us. Part of the reason for that nonsense superior theory is that we take pointing a gun at an innocent and negligently pulling the trigger so lightly. This should be a crime.
They make all kind of excuses for each other, which is often reflected in the media description of events. Often the gun just went off. In this case it was the old "leaning into his truck" problem. Often they claim mechanical failure.
The truth is, guns shoot people when you point them at the person and pull the trigger. Doing this unintentionally should be a serious crime and a disqualifier for continued gun ownership.

David Carrender Shot And Killed Son Following Argument About Watching Football
David Carrender faces murder charges in the shooting death of his son
Huffington Post
Indiana police arrested David Carrender, 49, on Sunday after his 19-year-old son, Wyatt Carrender, was gunned down at the family home in Martinsville. Police said that the younger Carrender was shot six times by his father with a handgun following an argument about watching football on television.
I wouldn't be surprised if this dangerous gun owner had a concealed carry permit, since they're so easy to get. No one checked if he had one, any more than they checked if he had a fishing license or library card.
The other thing I'm not surprised about is this is not his first incident. A neighbor reported witnessing a scene in which Carrender pulled a gun illegally. That's the way it usually works. People who make the news with gun misuse are generally not first-time offenders.
The real question for me is this: who is more representative of of gun owners, a guy like this or the extremist gun-rights fanatics. I think it's the former, at least insofar as typical gun owners suffer from all the ills of modern society, stress, depression, excess drinking, drug abuse, problems with rage. The gun-rights advocates, on the other hand, adhere strictly to safety rules, but are only a tiny fraction of the whole.

Lawful Indiana Gun Owner Shoots 3-Year-old Boy Unintentionally - He's Charged with Reckless Homicide
Local news reports
Is a trailer park allowed to deny firearms to its residents? That doesn't sound right to me, especially in Neanderthal-country.
In any case, here's another in the never-ending parade of idiot gun owners who obviously should never have been allowed to own guns in the first place.
The answer is in my number 1 gun control law, which includes a may issue policy for gun ownership. Many of these genius gun owners would be denied right off the bat.

Indiana 13-Year-old Dead from a Gunshot - No One Responsible
A 13-year-old Middletown boy was shot dead Monday in what officials believe was an accident, Anderson Police Department officials said Wednesday.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday in the 5700 block of Park Road in Anderson. Logan Armendariz died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was shot by what police described as an "underage family member."
Anderson Police Department reminded people of the importance of securing weapons in their homes. Anderson residents can get free gun lock from the police department.
The parents took some precautions, some. That's what the police chief said. But what the hell good are those precautions if a kid can outsmart them?
Dad should be in jail. That would go a long way to teach all the other gun-rights nuts to be more careful. That would do far more than the insipid reminders from the police that parents need to be more careful.

Indiana 4-Year-old Shot by her 8-Year-old Brother - No Adults Charged
Authorities in eastern Indiana say a 4-year-old girl was shot in the head when she dashed in front of her 8-year-old brother while he was target shooting.
Jay County sheriff's Capt. Patrick Wells tells WISH-TV that the shooting of Madison Dyer was a tragic accident.
The Star Press reports Madison was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital after the shooting Sunday night at a home near Portland but that a hospital spokesman said he couldn't give an update on her condition.
Police say several adults and children were around a campfire while the boy was shooting a .22-caliber rifle and Madison ran into the line of fire.
