Catching Up With the Algoma Discovery

I didn't want to come up empty handed in the Port Huron area, so I looked at Marine Traffic before leaving, I saw that the Lee A. Tregurtha and this one was heading up.  I was originally planning to catch the Tregurtha but I saw this one as I was coming up to St. Clair.  I stopped at my usual spot to catch her.

I'm not sure where the Algoma Discovery was coming from but she was heading to Superior.
The list the last port visited as Port Colborne but I think she was coming up from Quebec City or so.
Given her configuration, I think she was heading to Superior for grain.
I did bring my drone with me.  I was hoping to catch the Nickel Plate with it but I didn't really have a good spot to do that.
It was a little windier today.
But the sun was right, so I'm not going to complain.
She continues up the river.
One more shot.

The Algoma Discovery Slips By

I saw that I had one more ship to catch.  I wanted to expedite her catching, so I headed down to St Clair to catch her.

The Algoma Discovery was heading up to Superior, Wisconsin.
I assume she was heading up there to pick up grain given that's what she mostly carries.
She is looking a little rough for wear and I wonder if she is going to be retired soon.
There is quite a bit of rust and wharf rash on her.
But that seems typical with the Canadian boats as they go through more locks than the American boats.
It was still a nice day.
Probably my favorite of the set.
The beam shot.
She continues on her way.
As I type this post, she is on her way back this way.

And the Algoma Discovery

Actually, I caught this one between the Manitoulin shots.  As I was heading down M-29 to start heading home, I saw that this ship was in range.

I stopped at the park in St. Clair to get pictures of her.
I like this spot too.  you get some good views.
I just don't like the power lines in the background.
Oh well.
I think she was heading up to Duluth or Superior.  She would be picking up grain there.
As I type this, she is heading to Hamilton.
That is where she will deliver her grain.
She's kind of a nice looking boat.
The beam shot.
She continues heading up.
I love the fact that I can see the wake.
One more shot.

A Belated Merry Christmas from Michigan Exposures

When I started this blog over ten years ago, I didn't think I would still be doing it after all this time.  I enjoy taking the pictures but sometime putting words to the pictures can be difficult.  But anyway, it's been fun and I'm looking forward to continuing this blog.

At any rate, Happy Holidays to all my readers.  I hope the coming year is prosperous for you.

The Algoma Discovery Passes Port Huron

It didn't take long for the next ship to appear.
The Algoma Discovery was coming down from Thunder Bay.
I think she had a load of grain as she was on her way to Quebec City.
Typically the load of grain will be taken there and it will be picked up by another ship which will take it to an overseas port.
As I write this post, she is in Quebec City, so a journey there from here is about four days.
She is a pretty nice looking ship, except I don't think she is long for this world.
She passes under the Blue Water Bridge.
 Another angle.
 Her pilothouse.
And I really like this shot.

Discovering the Alogoma Discovery

I think the next ship is one of the ones that is slated to be scrapped in the next few years.
She's still a pretty cool ship and she looks like another grain carrier.
I think she was on her way down from Thunder Bay and she is on her way to Quebec City.
 A shot of her pilothouse.
And she heads down the river.

The Algoma Discovery Passes By

It wasn't too long before the next ship appeared.  She was following the Mississagi pretty closely.
I don't remember where she was heading though.
I think she may have been heading to Montreal or Quebec but I'm not sure.
Anyway, it was nice to see her because I think I heard that she might be one of the ships up for scrapping.
 It would be a shame.
The sky looked pretty nice though.
I love the blue of the Detroit River.

One more shot as she continues down the river.
