Small Town Hauntings

Haunting in a small town
This is me kicking ideas around, its not a finished piece by any stretch but I like the idea of a small town being haunted by some small rather lonely looking little ghosts. This will be filed away for a later date.. quite possibly indefinitely. The actual piece is a little better than it appears here.. I can't get any kind of decent light, at little sunshine would be nice.

The Button Thief

the button thief (a sketch)

For some reason, unknown to myself, the words "Button Thief" popped into my brain and have plagued me at odd times over the last week or two. It all started when I was playing with some buttons displayed in a basket in a charity shop, and again later I picked up a button on the ground near the park, and I wondered who would want a little lost button? Why a button thief of course.

I imagined a little mouse or squirrel but while sketching in my notebook today a little birdy decided she is the button thief, and a pretty little one at that. She may just need a little black mask, after all she is a criminal, and as such she must keep her identity a secret.

If I get the chance over the weekend I will try and paint the button thief, on vintage book paper, but for now she is just a little doodle in one of my many note/sketch books. H has a cold today so has stayed home from preschool which means the house is a tip and he has been like a poorly little leach stuck to my side all day. So aside from ten minutes frantically sketching ideas in my notebook I have nothing to show for myself today... maybe tomorrow... or the day after.

Have a happy weekend!

Notebook of a Slightly Mad Woman

doodle for a bracelet that I haven't yet made

I have taken up the challenge from Jill at Miaou Crafts to take a few pictures of some of the things in one of my notebooks. Now she shows pictures of her Happy book, I'm not so organized or possibly as happy as that, I am a notebook hoarder though, I hate journals, aside from blogging of course, but have always kept notebooks everywhere, there is always one in my purse, and I covet them fiercely when I see pretty ones in shops or on Etsy. My notebooks are normally a collection of anything from doodles, recipes, knitting patterns, quickly scrawled out story ideas and dreams, and lots and lots of lists. M thinks I should join list makers anonymous.

"Hi my blog is Meridian Ariel and I am a List Maker. " naah It would never work.

Anyway here is random selection of sketches from my current bag dwelling notebook. A peep inside my messy little brain. Aside from a few jotted notes my handwriting is quite awful, I'm pretty sure that only I can read my notebooks for the most part, and wont put you through the horror of my serial killer scrawl, If you are interested in my writing then you can have a peep ad my sorely neglected drabble blog. The Teapot Nebula several of the drabbles were actually roughly written in my notebook first, namely "scene" and "butterfly" and "lunatic" my personal favourite drabble. I really must get to writing more, but I have been having such a fun time crafting...

Lulu

I have been expirementing with ageing a quickly drawn sketch with tea. The sketch is of Louise Brooks from a book about her that M has. I may re draw her again, I have drawn her sevral times in the past because I love that 20s style, and the lighting used in old hollywood portraiture. I'm quite happy with the result, although I'm not sure what I shall be doing with her at the moment.

GingerMonkey

handmade plush pug by GingerMonkey

I want to say a big thank you to the lovely and extremly talented GingerMonkey for making the adorable little pug dog that I requested in exchange for one of my bracelets. Its for my mother's birthday next month. (please don't tell daddy) The pug is great and I know that my mother will love it. Below is the sketch I did to explain what I wanted and I coulden't have asked for a better end product, seeing as I can't sew to save my life and GM is uber talented at softie making. So if you haven't been please go have a peep at GingerMonkey 's blog and her etsy shop too.. and while you are there have a peep at my shop too!

Today I have also been hard at work creating two garnet bracelets for Dior my very first order! Which I'm quiet excited about even if its not through my shop. I hope she likes them. Off to go take H to the library and get some packaging to keep the bracelets safe when I send them out.

Sketch Book

I have been doing a bit of sketching in my sketch book and tidying up a few older drawings in there, I don't know exactly what I will be doing with these sketches but I think they lend themselves to alot of diffrent things, If I get a few of them properly scanned and not jsut take pictures with my phone then I think they might make some great t-shirts designs. Well maybe not the coffee ones. But I love the green man and the willow tree I'm very pleased at how they turned out. I still haven't gone to Harmony Yarn ( http://www.harmonyyarn.com/ ) which is on third street. I'll wait and pop that on M and have him drop me off there and send him for coffee!

I finally managed to go to the yarn store and got some lovely grey wool.. and purple too, I haven't decided what to knit with them though, possible some wrist warmers and a scarf, but they are so lovely that I will be hard pressed to give the finished products away, well once I actually start that is. I'm also trying to get my head around paint shop at the moment, I knew it long long ago but now I'm such a technophobe.. well more inept that phobe I think.

M will be here on wedensday so its off to the shops today to get a few things for him, and some more drip filter coffee that is better than the bag I bought myself because it was awful. H will be happy too as he has been a monster the last few days missing his dad so hopefully he will be a good boy again and deserving of a real birthday party.
