Happy Sunday

Today was Sunday. How I love Sundays. Today was steak and potatoes dinner - the best! It is a beautiful day here, near 60 degrees. Spring is here and I am so happy for it!

Sammi gave a talk today in Primary. She did so good! She read the whole thing all by herself. She was nice and loud and she just did a really nice job. I was happy for her. She is really a fun girl to watch grow. How I love my Sammi. Both Sammi and Daniel passed off their 4th article of faith today. We are on to the fifth now. It was so cute to watch them stand there and sing the song to the Primary Pres. They love to pass off their articles of faith, they get a prize from the prize box when they do. I have enjoyed teaching them to them.

You know what is so great? On lds.org there is this place just for music. On the site you have available to you all of the hymns and childrens songs with the sheet music, the lyrics, someone playing the piano or full vocal. It is SO GREAT. Especially for me, who never learned how to play the piano. I can just turn on the website click the play button and teach my children the primary songs - I LOVE IT! What a great resource. The kids love it too, I find it very helpful. One day I will have piano in my home, and I WILL learn how to play. Things seem to come more easily to me now as an adult. My learning was stunted by distraction as a youth, now I have more of a fire for learning. It is very helpful! I do love to sing and I love music in the home. I want that to be a part of my home and my family.

Not too much going on here. I am just getting closer each day to THE DAY. Not much longer now and I will have another child to love and cuddle - I am so excited about that. We had to break down and buy a car seat yesterday. It fits! Thank goodness. It is pretty darn skinny and the kids can buckle - hooray! I am so glad we found one. We could not bring baby home without it.

That is all for now. It is about time to go for a walk. It is so pretty outside. I love Sundays, just being with family. It is so great.

Anonymous said...: what a happy family you have Mari. fun photos! I'm glad you found a carseat that fits. I've got to get a picture of that. 3 carseats. I was trying to picture that in the back of our jeep today. We had to buy a little trailer last summer just to haul all the baby gear, camping gear, etc, since Sage (the dog whom we love) takes up the whole back end of the jeep where we use to store supplies. But, you can make things work w/in budget. It's great!

There is a wonderful article that every family should read about raising happy famiies. I saw the talk on byu last week. Go to byubroadcasting.org and type in "Functional Families" by James D. MacArthur. He raised 10 children HAPPILY w/ his wife and he shares how they worked together to have joy and success within the walls of their own home. He talked about 'tickle time' and 'Family Discussion Time.' He talked about taking time to tell and show your kids how important they are to you. Like drop the mop and go read them that story or get off work early to be at a game or buy them an ice cream and go to the park to play together. Families are so much fun! I'm so grateful that we all work together to care for one another. It's a good thing!

Mom and Dad, I think this article about "functional families" would be helpful on your mission since you said the people there could use a little instrution on how to have a happy family. Let me know if you need me to forward it to you via email. Talofa!

We're headed to Wasilla tomorrow for a home inspection. The home is only 5 yrs old, I think it will pass, but it's always best to be prepared so no big surprises come up.

PS. Mom and Dad, I took Stephen to the bulletin board today to show him Grandma and Grandpa. i told him that you were watching over him. It seemed to calm him down. I actually had to take him out of RS for the first time today because he was singing soprano at the top of his lungs...like a high C!!!! holy cow, I could not believe the volume produced by such a sweet little boy. He was sooo hungry and sooo tired at the same time, he just had to express himself. ok, I'm done expressing myself, over and out!

Who am I?

I am a wife and a mother, my two favorite and most distinguished titles. I have four lovely children who keep me from being vain and selfish. I spent most of my life living in Anchorage, Alaska -- where I found my love, Charles. I enjoy a great many things, and I am good at a few things. I love to sing, run, have deep conversations, bake, do family history, blog, be with family, be with friends, have quiet time (whatever that is?), teach, rearrange furniture, watch movies, go for Sunday walks, attend the temple, observe people (Yes, I am watching YOU!), and I enjoy pondering the mysteries of the World. I love living on this beautiful Earth that God has created. I know who I am and I am grateful to know it. I am a child of God -- and so are you!

Mothers

God bless you, dear friends. Do not trade your birthright as a mother for some bauble of passing value. Let your first interest be in your home. The baby you hold in your arms will grow quickly as the sunrise and the sunset of the rushing days. I hope that when that occurs you will not be led to exclaim as did King Lear, “How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child!” (King Lear, I, iv, 312). Rather, I hope that you will have every reason to be proud concerning your children, to have love for them, to have faith in them, to see them grow in righteousness and virtue before the Lord, to see them become useful and productive members of society. If with all you have done there is an occasional failure, you can still say, “At least I did the very best of which I was capable. I tried as hard as I knew how. I let nothing stand in the way of my role as a mother.” Failures will be few under such circumstances.
