Texture, paste Gelatos AND acrylic? Yes!
Thursday, November 14, 2013
Hey hey there bloggers!
Oh my goodness time is just flying by and these days I am spending way
more time on the computer cleaning up files than actually creating.
No fun.
But I am getting there- so close, almost done then I can share what I am up to.
I am working on a portfolio of my art and because I am not a computer person
it is taking a lot longer than I would like!
Meanwhile here is a another two pager I made.
I used DCWV Forever and Always Stack - I don't know if you can tell in the pictures but in
some areas the paper has a matte finish and in some it has iridescent stripes. I also added some
more texture (I love texture) with canvas ribbon, Artisan elements (Pink Paislee),
Blue Fern & Maya Road chipboard & drywall tape,
I colored all my pieces with Gelatos, misted with water and blended with a dry paint brush.
I used acrylic banners in two sizes (Clear Scraps) to make
my title and journal pop off the page!
I also used modeling paste and gesso.
Here are the pages together.
This is my oldest - aka the original baby girl in the family!
Hope you have a blessed day!

A two page out!
Thursday, October 31, 2013
Hey sweet bloggers what is going on?
It's been a while since I shares a layout so I figured why not a 2 pager!
Here's a layout of my little ones (they grow up so fast!) - I had a lot of fun playing
with textures and paper (DCWV of course).
I added lots of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft
gesso on top of pattern paper and drywall tape seems to be a staple
in my work these days. I don't know why I just like those small circles!
Lots of layers, twine and charms.
The title is a chipboard piece I altered with Gellatos, PITT Artist Pens and gel medium.
DCWV papers used from
The Homeroom Stack, The Basics Stack,Dear Jane Stack,
Violet Leaf Stack, Craft & White Tag Stack

Hardships...

Hi sweet bloggers. How are you doing?
I am struggling a bit- I started the week off good-
I did - I was so busy, working on lots of different artwork including this one.
Then stuff happened with my mom.
As you know she is in assisted living and has Alzheimer's & Dementia.
I would like to say that knowing that she is safe is enough but it is not.
I have yet to get myself to a place where I can stop internalizing
the hateful things she says, the stress and guilt trips she puts me through -
even I know that is not her it is hard not to let it get to me.
We had a very rough visit on Friday, on the way back to her home she yelled at me for over
a half an hour because "there is nothing wrong with her", she doesn't remember why she is "that place", she does not want me to take her back and she wants me to buy her plane tickets to CA right now! I kept my cool and I reminded her in a very calm and quiet voice that she is yelling and the kids are in the car and we could discuss this later without the kids.
She just got louder and said she would not stop screaming unless I took her to the airport right now! She repeated this over and over (and some other ugly things I won't repeat)-
I only told here this twice and stopped talking because
I knew it would not do any good; the kids were silent the entire time.
I took her straight back home, she didn't a word as we walked her to her room.
I told the kids to say goodbye and we left. I was shaking.
...
Not even a half an hour later she calls and I don't answer- I am still reeling, my head hurts,
and I have had enough. Seriously with this disease and these type of visits I understand why relationships are strained and people do not visit their loved ones. It is very difficult to be around people who are so negative, mean and rude I pray that it wont always be like this - some people with this disease are not like this. She made me so angry I did not want to go back...EVER, I knew it was unrealistic but I thought it, even if just for a moment (or two).
And here she is calling me like it never happened (because in her mind it didn't!) saying she needs to run up to the store and could I come by when I get the chance.
I painted this instead.
I noticed many times whats going with me personally reflects in my work.
And this was the biggest piece I was working this week and even though is stuff with my mom is hard there is truly nothing I can do about it. So I pray and I draw, and I paint.
And God gives me peace to let it go. And I share.
It's a good process I think.
It was pretty intense so I have only one in process picture.
Then it became like therapy - I was in the zone.
I did play with a little editing though.
Funny how a color changes the whole feel of a piece son't you think?
I hope your weekend was better than mine.

Today I am grateful...
Thursday, September 19, 2013
Happy Thursday!
And it can be you know...happy.
Everyday there can be something in your life that you can be thankful for
and that can make you happy.
Yesterday I had a massive migraine- I spent most of my day lying down in the dark.
And I could complain but I am thankful the medicine worked this time.
I am thankful my kids were good and quiet (most of the time!)
Which brings me to todays layout made with the gorgeous
papers from the DCWV Tangerine stack!
Here is how I did the chipboard title.
First I covered it with Gesso.
Then colored the bottom of it with a Gelato.
Then I added a second color, darker this time and
blended the colors wit a wet paintbrush.
A close up.
What are you grateful for today?
I am grateful for family and friends and conferences like this-
I am super excited to be going here this weekend
with a fabulous group of ladies!
If you have never been you should see if they are coming to your town!
I know it's going to be an amazing time!
How about you?

I will have 15 minutes to create something with all of the contents in the mystery box-
no pressure! LOL! I have no idea whats in there so it should be interesting!
You can buy tickets- they are raffling off the creations being made by various designers
I am also going to be donating one of my fairy paintings! I will post her on Wed!
Meanwhile here are some up close photos of my apron.
Colored with PITT pens and Gelatos of course.

You really didn't think I was going to wear a plain apron did you?
I can pretty much color on any surface as long as I use
a layer of gesso first.

Playing with gesso & modeling paste
Sunday, January 27, 2013
Hey bloggers! Here are some beautiful papers from the Tres Chic Stack by DCWV.
I was inspired to do something a little more romantic as I received
this gorgeous chipboard from Blue Fern Studios!
Lately it seems as though I can't do anything without pulling out my
gesso and modeling paste so I pulled out my supplies and went to work!
I covered most of the page & chipboard lightly with gesso,
then went back with a heart stencil and modeling paste.
(after all Valentines day is right around the corner!)
I used a Guava Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®
Gelato® over the top of the dried gesso and paste.
I rubbed it in with a dry sponge.
Baby girl is getting bigger every day!
I think this is a perfect title for her page don't you?

Spread your wings...it's 2013!

Happy New Year!
The next few days will be exciting as the Clear Scraps team
reveals all the new cool products coming out at CHA!!!
This XL chipboard frame is one of the new items! I was waiting to use this
cute quote and it also happens to go with my new word/theme for 2013!
My new word for 2013 is "Dare" - I must admit 2012 was a really hard year
for me and I am ready to move forward, take a chance and spread my wings!
Unlike a resolution I feel like this takes the pressure off of
succeeding or finishing something in the year. I have set goals
but they are not ones that can happen overnight,
it is going to take time but in order for then to eventually come to
fruition I must take that first step!
Dare to try and keep trying if I fail at first!
Oh and my project? This will be on display at the Clear Scraps booth at CHA
- it looks so much cooler in person so please go check it out if you are going!
The picture did not do it justice!
Lots of color and texture- hard to believe everything on here started as chipboard!
What will you "Dare" to do in 2013?
