Sketchbook: sketch #8

Well, I did it!

I challenged myself to make a card & a layout for each sketch
and finish within the first week of June.
(I needed to do this because last year, I hardly touched any of the sketches
and I didn't want to waste my money this year and sign up again & then not do them.)

Well, yesterday, I finished my layout and card for the last sketch!

So, here is the layout I made with Sketch #8:

Sketchbook: Sketch 8 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts

I used some Crate Paper patterned paper as my background.
I also wanted to use some of these Crate Paper chipboard frames that I
had from their The Pier collections, but they were a little too yellowy to match
the background paper, so I painted them with white acrylic paint.
The chipboard letters from the title are Pink Paislee from 2009 or so --
I had bought three packages at one point and was struggling to find a title
I could create with the letters I had leftover. LOL!

A few close-ups.

I stamped the "far from perfect..." stamp (above) and the "for the books" stamps (below)
from the stamp set I got when I signed up for the class in Altenew Paper Bag ink.

This sticker is from Little Yellow Bicycle and it's from the same time
as the chipboard letters, because I remember using them to scrapbook our
trip to Denver that we took in 2009.
I love using up things from my stash!

And for my card, I used Papertrey Ink's Wee One stamp set
along with my new Altenew inks.

I love these new colours!
The deer is stamped in Paper Bag, the larger bird in Caramel Toffee,
the rabbit in Buttercream, the butterfly in Frosty Pink,
the smaller bird in Grapevine, the fox in Coral Berry
and the leaves in Frayed Leaf.

Sketchbook: Sketch #7

As I've mentioned before, I've been taking Kelly Purkey's Sketchbook class at Studio Calico
and, my goal was to keep up with the class and hopefully complete it in May.
Well, Sketch 7 was posted on Tuesday and, since I had the day off yesterday,
I was able to make a layout & a card with it.
I know I probably won't get Sketch 8 done before the end of the month
(we're off in Winnipeg today volunteering at a taekwondo tournament
and tomorrow, our local theatre is having a Jurassic Park marathon),
but I'm still pretty pleased with staying as caught up as I have!

I'm not allowed to post the sketch here on my blog,
but here are my projects that I made it.

Here's the layout:

Sketchbook: Sketch 7 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayouts

It's not the best quality photo, but I love it!
I stuck pretty closely to the sketch on this one.
The background cardstock is Bazzill Basics Classic Smooth White.
The aqua woodgrain patterned paper is American Crafts and I created
the music note patterned paper by stamping a Clearly Besotted stamp
over some Echo Park cardstock.

Sketchbook: Sketch 7 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayouts

I added a Crate Paper tag and layered a Crate Paper chipboard frame over top.
I stamped the "bon voyage" from Papertrey Ink's Get Lost stamp set.

Here's a close-up of my journaling:

Sketchbook: Sketch 7 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayouts
And here's the super quick card that I made using
all pre-made embellishments & no stamping or diecutting!
(I know! I'm pretty shocked, too!)

Sketchbook: Sketch 7 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #cards

I reversed where the photo & sentiment were placed on the sketch,
but I'm really pleased with how it turned out!
I used a Crate Paper tag that I switched the tie it came
with for some button twine.
The flowers are all Heidi Swapp.

Five for Friday

It's been a good week!

1. On Tuesday, my best friend, Val, had the day off, so we spent the
day together in Winnipeg, shopping (something we haven't done since
the Women of Faith conference last fall!)
It was very fun -- and a nice break!

2. Sage and I have decided to make some fairy gardens.
We went shopping for plants on Monday after school and
saw some very fun little ceramic houses
-- which were also quite pricey!
I suggested that we get some clay & make our own.
(I wondered if we'd need a kilm, but we called Sage's art teacher
and she said that air dry clay would work fine.)
So I picked some up on Tuesday in Winnipeg
and we started making the houses yesterday after school.

We made our house front and had no idea how to keep it upright....
so we leaned it up against my paper trimmer and stacked a few things on top.

And look! We made a little bird bath!
In Winnipeg, I also picked up two very pretty galvinized tubs.
Don't worry: I will share photos when we're done.

3. Tomorrow, Sage, Jonah & I are off to Winnipeg
to volunteer at the Ironfist Taekwondo tournament.
I'll be a judge for patterns and a referee for sparring and they're volunteering as runners.
Oh, and at Jonah's request, we'll be going to A&W afterwards for supper. ;)

4. As I've shared before, I've been taking
On Wednesday, I worked on some projects for Sketch 6.

Here's the layout I made, using some Reverse Confetti products:

Five for Friday Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics @reverseconfetti #bazzillbasics #reverseconfetti #scrapbookinglayouts

So, when I did my craft room purge last month, I came across these
Scenic Route chipboard letters, of which I have three packages.
I debated on getting rid of them, but didn't.
Instead, I'm challenging myself to use them.
With lots of letters missing (no a, e, r, t, g, etc.), it's been a little challenging.
I pulled them out for this layout and had a hard time coming up with a title,
since I couldn't do "cuddles", "cuddling", "kitten", etc.
I finally settled on "cloud 9."
Yes, that's a nine. ;)

Five for Friday Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics @reverseconfetti #bazzillbasics #reverseconfetti #scrapbookinglayouts

On my Bazzill Basics Classic Smooth White cardstock base, I stamped
one of the stamped from Color Me Happy to create my splatter --
I love that I can stamp this and not leave it up to messy chance!
The patterned paper I used is American Crafts DIY.

Five for Friday Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics @reverseconfetti #bazzillbasics #reverseconfetti #scrapbookinglayouts

Under the second photo, I stamped the sentiment from Fancy Words Coordinates.

5. The store where I sell my cards in my town has requested some sympathy cards.
I decided to make four sympathy cards using the sketch.

Now, during my craft room purge, I also came across lots of
embellishments that I loved the look of in the store when I bought them
but then didn't seem to use on any of my cards/layouts.
I'm pretty sure this is because I prefer to make my own
(you know, to justify my large stamp collection). ;)
But as I was getting rid of things, I decided to hold onto the ones I still
really liked and figured that now was a great time to use some of them.

So I made four sympathy cards, using the sketch,
some Bazzill Basics Classic Smooth White cardstock,
a rectangle of American Crafts' DIY patterned paper and
my favourite sympathy sentiment from Reverse Confetti's Lots to Say.

Here they are:

This chipboard shape is Crate Paper.
I matted this card on a piece of Bazzill Card Shoppe: Cotton Candy cardstock.

This card is also matted on Bazzill Card Shoppe: Cotton Candy cardstock.
The flower diecut is from Heidi Swapp and I added a couple of PTI buttons with twine.

Sketchbook: Sketch 3

and, this weekend, I made a layout and a card using the sketch.
I'm not allowed to post the sketch here on my blog,
but here are my projects.

Here's the layout I made for Sketch 3:

Sketchbook: Sketch 3 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayouts

I decided to do a "currently" layout for Sage and used PTI's Slide Frame die
with six different shades of Bazzill Basics cardstock: Robin's Egg, Pale Rose,
I adhered them all to a piece of 12x12 Bazzill Basics Classic White cardstock, which I
trimmed down to 11 5/8x 11 5/8" and matted on some Robin's Egg.

I also stamped on each frame, using either my Kelly Purkey stamp set
that I got when I signed up for the class or PTI's Slide Frame stamp set.

Here are some close ups:

For my title, I stamped it using PTI's Wet Paint Alphabet stamp set.
A trio of enamel dots finishes it off.

For my card, I used the same colours of cardstock along with a Pretty Pink Posh stitched die.

Sketchbook: Sketch 3 Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #cards

I diecut the fox from PTI's Wee One Mini Kit and
stamped the sentiments from the coordinating stamp set.

Sketchbook: Sketch 2

and, this weekend, I made a layout and a card using the sketch.
I'm not allowed to post the sketch here on my blog,
but here are my projects.

Here's the layout I made for Sketch 2:

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics

I used some Crate Paper (pink stripes) & October Afternoon (blue bokeh)
patterned paper, as well as a We R Memory Keepers journaling card.
I used some Fancy Pants alphabet stickers for the title.
This was all adhered to a piece of 12x12 Bazzill Basics Classic White cardstock.

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics

I had fun stamping my own embellishments using PTI's Simply Framed stamp set

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics

For this last embellishment, I created a piece of cardstock that can be pulled out
to reveal the journaling.

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #scrapbookinglayouts @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics

I decided to use the PTI Wee One MIM Mini kit to make my card:

Sketchbook: Sketch 2 Leigh Penner @leigh148 #cards

I diecut the bird and deer from patterned paper that came in the kit.
I stamped the frame and sentiment and added an aqua mist button
with button twine to finish it off.

Pages With Papertrey Sketch #38

Today, I have a sketch and layout to share for this month's Pages With Papertrey Sketch.

So, it's an 8.5x11 sketch, but I modified it to a 12x12 layout by adding some patterned
paper behind my photo.
I also just went with one photo, instead of three.
Here's my layout:

I used a Wet Paint II Cuts diecut for the "you".
Here's a close-up of my journaling:

If you create a layout using this sketch,
please link to it in a comment here on my blog or here on the PTI forum.

Pages With Papertrey Sketch #37

Today, I am sharing a layout that I made using the following sketch:

Now, I'm posting this sketch for Pages With Papertrey,
but I have to admit..... the only Papertrey Ink products on my page are cardstock.
I debated on not posting the sketch, but I don't have any other layouts with a sketch
that I could share and a crazy week ahead filled with prepping for Sage's birthday party,
so I figured it was better than nothing. ;)

I used some Crate Paper The Pier patterned paper and chipboard to
scrapbook these super fun photos of Sage and Jonah's best friend, Josh, on one of
the rides at our local Corn & Apple Festival last summer.

For my title, I used my Mama Elephant alphabet dies and some kraft card stock.

The "today was" stamp is Elle's Studio and I used my date stamp to fill it in.

So if you make a layout using the sketch, please link it up here
in the comments on my blog or here on the PTI forum --
I love to see what you made!

Five for Friday

1. We are making the very most of our summer....
On Sunday, we went to the Winkler Harvest Festival and took in the rodeo.
On Monday, we joined some friends at the beach.
On Wednesday, we went to the Manitou pool.

By the way, that red slide was super steep -- and kind of scary, to tell you the truth.
But I plucked up my courage and slid down it three times. ;)

2. Yesterday was my birthday and I had a great day!
We went to the library reading program wind-up at the park and Austin won
the Hunger Games book set (which he traded with the girl who won the Divergent book set -- too funny!)
My best friend, Val, took me out for lunch at the golf course -- so nice to spend time visiting together!
In the afternoon, I took Jonah & Sage to test drive a Dodge Charger for fun (Jonah's big into cars).
Big mistake -- it was a really nice car, but unfortunately, not one we can afford right now. Sigh.
Austin had a gift card for Boston Pizza and took us out for supper.
We had our taekwondo black belt class in the evening.

I also wanted to share what Sage gave me for my birthday....and the sweet card she made.

I love this bike/clock! It's so me!
And here's her sweet card -- using the new PTI MIM Country Fair kit.

I'm linking her card up to this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Summer

3. We've been watching Lucy for the last three weeks and her owners got home last night.
She is such a wonderful dog. We all love her, but especially Jonah.

Hmmm, I'm predicting a layout in the near future.... ;)

4. I have a card to share that I made for Tag You're It Challenge #4
where we're being inspired by this lovely tag by TYIC Designer Marion:

I was inspired by inlaid die cut word at the top of the tag and the square beneath it.
I decided to use one of my Pretty Pink Posh tag dies,
along with my Simon Says Stamp hello die to make a shaker tag card.

I used Crate Paper The Pier patterned paper for my background,
which I layered over some vintage cream card stock.
I die cut the tag from cream card stock and then die cut the word die
and a square. Initially, I'd thought I'd switch out the Hello for a coloured die cut,
but I thought the cream on cream looked cool.
I filled the shaker with some Pretty Pink Posh wooden stars & sequins
(tangerine, 4mm lemon meringue, pink blush, pink peonies, raspberry).

Visit the Tag You're It Challenge Blog to see the rest of the DT's takes
on the challenge and to play along, if you'd like.
You have until Wednesday, August 27th to link up your project.

5. And lastly, I have a new sketch to share for Pages With Papertrey:

For my layout, I substituted one 4x6 photo for the two on the right hand side
of the sketch and I put a chipboard frame with my journaling where the photo
on the left hand side was suppose to go.

I used some Crate Paper patterned paper and chipboard shapes/frames for my layout.
I die cut my title using my Papertrey Ink Notebook alphabet dies and some kraft card stock,
which I stamped using a My Favorite Things woodgrain stamp.

Here's a close up of the journaling, which I typed on my friend, Mandy's typewriter
(we were at a crop together when I made this layout.)

If you create a layout using this sketch, please link it up here in the comments on my blog
or here in the Papertrey Ink Forum. I'd love to see what you create!
