Queen of Corvids ( Raven Crawford 3 ) by J.C McKenzie

Hello to all,

A New week stuck at home and looks like there will be many more to come but at least i got some good books to pass the time so i will share my opinion on some with you starting with teh 3rd book in the Raven Crawford series by JC McKenzie.

Happy Reading and courage to all!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2020
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: strong
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

Truth can be ugly and part-time waitress, casual PI investigator, and half-fae shifter, Raven Crawford, can’t deny she owes the Lord of War a favour. If she defaults on her debt, she relinquishes all her power to a man who doesn’t know the meaning of mercy. And she thought her bank loans were bad.

With her new role in the Underworld contending with her debt to a dictator, a budding romance with the Lord of Shadows, and her need to pay the bills, Raven is in serious need of balance. But the moment the dark fae walked into her diner months ago, she’s been off-balance.

It’s time for Raven to pull up her big girl socks and prove to everyone she’s no longer the burnt-out waitress with a nifty parlour trick.

She’s the Queen of Corvids

My opinion:
Great book! Really all went up in this instalment more action, more fights, more fun , more violence ( then dark fae are violent) and more steam! It's just wonderfully written to have us hooked right at the beginning.

Raven is trying to adjust to her new position of Queen of Corvids while staying alive and pay her debt to Bane...but she still has a lot to learn despite having Cole as an advisor as well as a lover....I loved to see her think about her relationship with Cole because it's true it went fast but she does reflect on it and dig deeper. Also Rouke show a new side of himself which is wonderful and funny

It's a non stop action with enemies in Mortal realm and others among the fae but not only. we also discover a new side  " Roller" thankfully more neutral because Raven has really a lot on her plate and she doesn't realise all her abilities yet.
This is a funny,  full of action, story but it make sense when read in order more as we can see the evolution of the characters  i was eager to learn more about the universe and this book offered us that  with an excellent intrigue
Raven is courageous, loyal and she has a good heart.  The only thing that bothered me a little is that i had the feeling one group got it too easy....i understand the why with Raven personality but still i wasn't happy about that  otherwise it's simply perfect.

to recommend

Monsters Under the Magnolia (Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries 3 ) by J. L. Collins

Hello to all!

I'm back with the third instalment in the Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries, while book 2 had disappointed me a little this one is of good quality and made me want for more again....

Happy reading!
Publisher: J. L. Collins
Publication: 2020
Genre: cozy mystery, southern, paranormal cozy mystery
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

 Welcome to Witch Hazel Lane...
Former Vegas star and witch in hiding, Birdie Devaine is ready for a vacation away from all of the stresses of an ongoing (and haunted) house renovation. Lucky for her she’s got a first-class ticket aboard one of the swankiest cruise ships in the world. Along with her best friends, Birdie’s ready to set sail through the warm Caribbean waters, soak up some much needed sun and sip on some much needed fruity drinks…

But a trip to paradise comes with a price. And on a ship full of magical beings, the price is steep.

Murders. Kidnappings. Something fishy is going on aboard the Magnolia On Water, and Birdie isn’t willing to let her wishes for a relaxing vacation get in the way of finding the killer. Or killers.

And with an old friend in danger, Birdie is determined to get to the bottom of this string of murders… before she ends up at the bottom of the ocean.

My opinion:
I loved this new instalment, it was interesting to see some witches and warlocks to see some other powers and magical abilities even if we only saw a little.

The setting was great and it was even better to see all the girls working with Birdie on this investigation and to see how they care about Birdie  as well. The investigation was well done with some twists and the rhythm was just what was needed to make us unable to stop before the last page.

A great instalment for this good southern cozy mysteries series. to read in order as we get a light cliffhanger at the end of the this book.

Nevermore ( Raven Crawford 2) by J.C. McKenzie

Hello to all,

Since i got very sick end of 2019 and early this year i'm late to review some books and fo that i'm sorry i will try to get up to date fast as some really deserve the spotlight.
Today i'm sharing with you my opinion on Nevermore second book in the Raven Crawford series by J.C.McKenzie...book 1 surprised me by it's originality this one keep the quality and just makes you want to discover more.

Happy Reading!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2019
ASIN:  B07ZDGY88J
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: mild
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

Rundown waitress, part-time private investigator, and half-fae shifter, Raven Crawford, always gets the opposite of what she wants most. She works two jobs but can’t pay the bills. Her confrontation with Queen Lloth has unexpected and unfortunate consequences, and her love life is a hot mess.

With failure and disappointment honed to painful perfection, Raven’s life is riddled with complications, including her troublesome attraction to the lethal Lord of Shadows. When her latest case leads to a group hell-bent on destruction, she must decide who to trust. Will she choose wisely, or will she fail once again and become the next casualty in a war between the Mortal Realm and the Underworld

My opinion:
A very good urban fantasy story ,  it could perhaps be read even if you haven't gotten book 1 first but i really recommend you to read in order to see how the characters evolve and  to get a better immersion in this universe which get a little darker with each book.

It's a great mix of shifters, fae, mythology figures etc but of course also some humans not all of them with good intentions. This time Raven discover slowly the consequences of what she did in book 1 while the god of war gives her more tasks to achieve....Poor Raven has several missions colliding and she must learn her new powers faster than she could imagine.

The action is fast, there are some humour but also a lot of tension, we discover more about what is happening in the human realms and we get a cliffhanger that keep us on edge for book 3

If you want a great urban fantasy series a little dark with lot of supernatural creatures some very original, this is the perfect series for you but to read in order.

Heart of the Thief ( The Wardbreaker 1) by Katerina Martinez

Hello to all,

Today, i'm sharing with you my opinion on a recent urban fantasy series quite promising!

Happy Reading!
Publisher: Supernal Publishing
Publication: 2019
ASIN:  B07XSC9DXW
Genre: Urban fantasy
Violence: mild

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

When you have an exceptional talent, you're gonna attract the wrong people.

First of all, I don't consider myself a thief. I'm a finder. I find things people have lost, things people have had stolen from them. The only problem is, some people don't appreciate the distinction; especially once I've broken past their protective wards and... stolen from them.

Enter, Asmodius. I may have stolen from him recently, and he may have found out it was me. When his henchmen catch up to me and bring me before him, he gives me a choice. I can face the consequences of having stolen from one of the most powerful magical families in New York City, or I can work for him. It turns out I have a gift he's pretty keen on exploiting, and as long as I play ball, I get to keep my head.

But there's another problem with that: this guy is a legit crime boss, and what he wants me to do for him is suicide at best. The worst part? He puts his infuriatingly attractive son on babysitting duty to make sure I'm keeping up my end of the deal.

Despite the arrogant, controlling shadow hanging over me, I have to put together a team to help me pull off the most dangerous heist in history.

Either way, I'm probably dead, so I may as well have a little fun while I'm at it.

The Wardbreaker Series is a fast paced urban fantasy by an author constantly praised for bringing a touch of freshness to the genre. If you're looking for great action, fantastic characters, and a twisting story that's not without it's romance, scroll up and buy this book now!

My opinion:
The cover caught my eyes, the story held all my attention. This story is very interesting and i loved to follow Izzy around.....she is snarky and speak without a filter too often but she is deeply loyal and protective of her friends. She has morals too.....she finds things she doesn't steal or at least that what she is telling and believing.

The story has some twists and  we discover quite a lot about the universe it set in but we are still left with a lot of question which makes it even more interesting. I loved to see how she selected those she wants to work with and her reasons behind it, it sure makes them important in my eyes and i would love to know more about RJ and Cassidy ( ok even Karim) they are powerful each of them but together they could be unstoppable if they trust each other that's it. The rhythm is rapid so it's become a page turner easily.

This is a really good urban fantasy i will love to continue the series if the quality stays the same.

Druid Vices and a Vodka ( The Guild Codex: Spellbound 6) by Annette Marie

Hello to all,

While i'm starting 2020 deeply sick i still had the pleasure to read the latest release of my top favourite series discovered in 2019...series that is supposed to get it's conclusion later this year but for now we can still enjoy it fully, and you have time to start it if you haven't yet, but i can't insist enough: you must read it in order.

Enjoy and Happy Reading!
Publisher: Dark Owl Fantasy Inc.

Genre: urban fantasy,magic
Violence: strong

Language: normal

Description from goodreads :

I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.)

But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume—if I don't stop him.

Should I stop him?

He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We're on the brink of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.

Who's the real bad guy ... and do I dare stand in his way?

My opinion:
What a rollercoaster! i'm really glad i could read this in one sitting because if i had to take a break i would have been in a state of anguish rarely reached because of a book.  This is fabulous, there is tension, anguish, humour, lot of action and sometimes really moving moments....i absolutely loved this new instalment and really the next one can't  be fast enough at this point.

I loved Zak since the beginning i still feel for him because we really don't have a lot  of insights about what he lived but  as much i appreciate him i could also strangle him .He can be so obtuse and stupid that 's desesperating ... he doesn't realise how much he is trusting Tori even if he gave her some strong artefacts and how protective he can be of her at time...when it's matter he gets so stubborn and single minded that's a wonder how some fae didn't' take offence. Only Aaron could be as bad as him at times, they sure share some strong points.

Tori is as wonderful and loyal as always , she is determined to protect all of her friends  even against their wishes and she can take huge risks for that.  I particularly loved how she is starting to open to Erza.

The story is fast and we get immersed immediately, there were more interactions between Tori and Robin too this time and i can't wait to get the point of view of Robin about all the new events. Darius get even more mysterious as well and i would love to learn more about his past adventures.

This series is really addictive and wonderfully written so if you haven't started it yet  this is the time to start because this need to read in order. Each character  has its own appeal and  we can only want more of all of them.

The Alchemist and an Amaretto ( The Guild Codex: Spellbound 5) by Annette Marie [early review]

Hello to all,

while the tempest is blowing outside , i jumped on the opportunity to take a good cup of tea along with an excellent reads.....i was lucky to get an arc of one of my favourite series The Guild Codex Spellbound series by Annette Marie and i couldn't resist one more minute.....now i'm forced to wait until ....next year for book 6 but this was worth it!!
If you haven't started this series it's really time to jump on it as it needs to be read in order.

Happy reading!!

Description from goodreads :

As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything—mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family.

So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea.

Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds—and somehow no one has seen a single assailant? Unexplained tracks litter the nearby woods, rumors of forbidden alchemy are circulating the campus…and Ezra has been acting strangely since we arrived.

Something deadly is brewing in the shadow of Sinclair Academy, and the longer we take to uncover it, the more dangerous it becomes. But no matter the risk, we'll protect the students.

And Aaron's parents too, I suppose. If we have to.

My opinion:
Such an adventure! Tori sure is attracting trouble what should have holidays become a hunt with a limited time to save a friend the whole added with arrogant bunch of elitist mages with ego bigger than mountains. I really loved to learn more about Aaron as we meet his family but i also really wanted to punch him when we saw his darker side..;i still wonder why Tori kept cool about it and didn't punch him, Aaron is sure lucky to have friends like Kai and Erza.
This time we focus on shifters and we learn more about what they are in this universe...but we also discover other side of magic  and how some mages are elitist and putting their kind of magic above other. We get to see more of Sin as well and it was good to see how she became real friend with Tori;  both are out of their world in the Aaron's family home and it's not that easy for them.

What i loved even more was learning more about Erza.....he is lucky to have Tori watching over him especially since it's putting her in difficult situation. And of course Tori does find some interesting items along teh way ( even if this time she may not have a use for them herself)

This story is full of action and information , it's a real page turner as the characters have a limited time to succeed you can't stop you need to se what happen  as you get completely immersed in this addictive series.  There is the action, the humour as Tori can't stay silence in front of injustice and also cute moment when she interacts with fae ....but also some moment filled of emotion ... which will make you the next book as soon as possible.
It's a must read for sure but following the series in order.

An excellent book to recommend

Demon Magic and a Martini ( The Guild Codex: Spellbound 4) by Annette Marie

Hello to all,

On this sunny day i decided to share with you my opinion on lastest book in the Guild Codex Spellbound series by Annette Marie. It's a bit special since i've read the spin off first and that it covers some of the events we read about in this book but it just added to my pleasure ( both series can be read independently of each other) i just wanted more of Tori and since book 5 release this fall i wa,ted to be ready.

so enjoy!
Publisher: Dark Owl Fantasy Inc
Publication: 2019
Genre: urban fantasy, humour, magic
Violence: mild
Language: normal

Public: 16+

Description from goodreads :

When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica.

Turns out they have a good reason for that.

My guild is strictly hellion-free, but some people will risk life and soul to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground. And now a demon has been loosed in the city.

My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked. And that's not all. The monster they're tracking--it's not hiding. It's not fleeing. It's not leaving a trail of corpses everywhere it goes.

The demon is hunting too. And in a city full of mythics, it's searching for deadlier prey.

If we can't unravel the demon's sinister motivations, more innocent people will die, but finding the answers means digging into dark secrets ... and learning truths I never wanted to know.

--
Note: The three mages are definitely sexy, but this series isn't a reverse harem. It's 100% fun, sassy, fast-paced urban fantasy.

My opinion:
I really love this series so i couldn't wait to be up to date and ready for book 5 this fall but  i admit that while i love it this is my least favourite so far. It's wonderfully written full of action, humour and emotion a real page turner  read in one sitting but  2 of our favourites mages disappointed me.
Aaron and Kai were really disappointing ...they know Tori and they know how she reacts so accusing her not to care was totally out of character . They protect Erza yes but he is the only one acting normal towards Tori ( bonus point for him)

That being said  this story was fabulous and we see a new side of Darius too.....i loved the tarot cards as welll because let's be honest ^^ Tori and the magical artefacts is a funny tale, i do wonder what she will get each time as we can't accuse her not to be practical.  Tori is as always loyal to her friends and taking risks for them and that include fighting demons.

i loved to see her reactions to some new characters and that include one named Zylas i do hope to see more interactions between them.

We are learning quite a lot about Erza and lot of others topics in this book which makes me just more impatient for next one. A series not to be missed!

A small note, we can see part of this story from other characters point of view in the spin off Taming Demons for beginner, you don't have to read it to enjoy the Spellbound series but it's really a funny addition and it can also be read as stand alone so in any case you wouldn't regret it, it does deepen this story.

Blood Rite ( Ivy Granger 6) by E.J. Stevens

Hello to all,

Nearly dying or having deep injury if it wasn't for the additionnal step you suddenly took can be nerve shaking and sure make you see things differently....not that reading a book with zombie had any link to what happened but i sure felt sympathy for a few of them ( only a few) so without more delay here is my opinion on the latest book by  EJ Stevens: Blood rite 6th book in the Ivy Granger series.

Happy Reading!

Publisher: Sacred Oaks Press
Publication: 2019
ISBN:  0989488799
Genre: dark urban fantasy
Violence: strong
Language: normal
sex: allusion
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

Ivy Granger takes on a simple grave robbing case, but in Harborsmouth nothing is ever simple when dealing with the dead.

Grave robbing is Harborsmouth's second best-kept secret. The first is the existence of supernatural creatures that live alongside the city's humans. In fact, the dirtiest little secret of all might be the truth behind most of those empty graves.

Most supernaturals eke out a pretty mundane existence. Nobody wants a return to the Burning Times. Well, nobody sane.

The creature that was stealing the more odoriferous of Harborsmouth's citizens from their graves had to be crazy. Sir Gaius, ruler of the local vamps, owned the harvesting rights to every corpse buried within the city limits. No one touched the vampire master of the city's property without permission and lived to scream about it--until now.

Warning: This book features necromancy, grave robbing, an abandoned amusement park, and zombie clowns.

Blood Rite is the sixth novel in the award-winning Ivy Granger urban fantasy series by E.J. Stevens. The world of Ivy Granger, including the Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective series and the Hunters' Guild series, is filled with bloodsucking vampires, psychotic faeries, and snarky, kick-butt heroines

My opinion:
Really good but very dark. This series is becoming darker and darker without loosing its little touches of humour or romance which is a very good point. That being said i sure didn't expect it to be so dark either yes it include grave robbing and zombies but  it's deeper than that. The ambiance , what we fear to expect it's really creepy.

As always Ivy does lead the investigation but even herself feels that there is a lot more to this case , she can pinpoint it but she knows and it leave us with an feeling of business unfinished and worse to come. Villain is taken care of but is it the real bad one?

It's hard to explain  i really liked this story as we get to see how each character improves (for example Forneus and Ivy) the rhythm is fast but not too fast so we are not lost, even if i missed book 5 i had enough info to understand what was happening  but while it's not really a cliffhanger  i didn't get a feeling of closure at the last page more a foreboding one which kind of frustrated me. I do want the next book soon!!

I do recommend this book if you love zombies and dark ambience but i can't recommend you enough to read this book in the series order to get a better understanding and it's so worth it too.

Three Mages and a Margarita ( The Guild Codex :Spellbound 1) by Annette Marie

hello to all,

Not long ago my friend Carien recommended me a series ( THANK YOU) she just had discovered but the title had me hesitating, not for long as the blurb destroyed my fears. Since i got the opportunity to try it i jumped on the opportunity and i just regret not having jumped on it before. It's fabulous, easy read full of action humour and i just want more!!!!!! ( so bad news for my wishlist)

Really i want to avoid spoiler so i won't tell you much but it's really a series to try if you haven't yet, really worth the Sullivans award it won.

Happy Reading

Description from goodreads :

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.

It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview—to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?

I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they…offered me the job?

It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-shit bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.

So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course—with a pay raise.
--
Note: The three mages are definitely sexy, but this series isn't a reverse harem. It's 100% fun, sassy, fast-paced urban fantasy.

My opinion:
I couldn't have hoped for a better start for this series there is lot of action, humour and it's addictive to the point i couldn't resist doing my best to get book 2 without delay. Now i must say that with the title only i probably wouldn't have given a try because it sure gives the idea of a reverse harem but i can confirm the author 's note : it's not!

Where to start , the main character Tori is a very independent girl with trust issue but short tempered for sure and even more determination . She couldn't keep a job so far because of her temper and the fact that hitting or shouting at customer isn't well seen by managers. After a new door closed in her face she stumble on a paper with new job add and decide to give the bartender ad a try.
As strange as it seems at first and even after  talking back to the customers she does get the job....where not is as simple as it looks.

The three mages? oh i love them, not sure i could pick a favourite but we see from the start Tori relation to each one. Yes all 3 are attractive but complete different and so Tori is sometimes more like a sister to some, friend or hopeful girlfriend to others. Aaron is the most nervous one , Erza is the taciturn one but fiercely loyal, Kai is the playboy but real strategist...together they are a wonderful team but they are more like brothers than friends trusting each other with their life in a heartbeat.. I loved to read about their banter and deep bond too they can act like children one moment then big baddass warrior completely devoted the next minute It's funny.

The rest of the characters are also wonderful , so different and full of energy ready to kick back at the next second. I really would like to discover a bit more about some of them but  at the same time i'm already more than happy as it is for now.

The action is non stopping , there are twists and it's a real page turner as i read this in little more than 1h only since it was so good and i could reread it without waiting too. The story feel complete oh there are little element that could expend in the rest of the series but it's definitively no cliffhanger.

If you love funny urban fantasy this one is not to be missed.

The Night House by J. C. McKenzie

Hello to all,

We have a very little sunny time while i'm typing which kind of contradict with the book atmosphere i'm introducing you to today but it's a book i'm more than honoured to had the opportunity to read as it's a formidable story.

And before giving you my opinion i want to precise it's a stand alone just released so  if you just have to choose one book this month this is the one.

Happy reading
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2019
ISBN:  9781775225164
Genre: urban fantasy, paranormal, romance

 Short description from goodreads :

What would you pay for your freedom?

Caught by a powerful lord from the alternate realm of Arkavia, Taya’s offered the chance to avenge the dead, save her home world, and win her freedom.

Her days of stealing supplies and surviving among the remnants of Earth are over, but can she afford the price of Lord Thane’s deal?

My opinion:
Fabulous!!! This one is on my favourite shelf for sure! It can be dark , there are moment wonderfully written but sad  and some right at the beginning  but the story is simply great! Taya is caught in a situation not even nightmares could have prepared her for but fortunately for her, her family wasn't like every other so she isn't completely helpless.
Still we see a young girl loosing everything but with a mind strong enough to keep fighting for her life and freedom. I really loved this heroine.

The invaders are not so easy to understand, there are divisions in their world too and some are not as bad as others. Thane is a noble but second son but since the beginning he show some honour...then he act with Taya giving her choice because he does detect something in her but it goes deeper than that. He really understands her and he is a good soul despite the family he has.
That reflect also in his choice of companionship: Axel, Lokni and few others are more like brotherhood than servants and they do include Taya in their rank without consideration of her being female, she is part of their group thus get the same protection as any other from said group.

There are intrigues as we discover the Arkavia world, romance, lot of action as we follow Taya  when she is trained then acting as bodyguard. there also have some funny moment.

Really the rhythm is perfect! a real page turner.  It's a standalone and we can appreciate that fully as  when we finish the book we do have all our answer, we can have a feeling of satisfaction and still we are open to imagine  a sequel we don't need it, it probably not be written but we can easily imagine it ourselves.

It's really a " coup de coeur", i recommend it without hesitation

The Good Griffin ( the Old Black Magic/ Heart's Desired Mate series) by JC McKenzie

Hello to all,

While it's raining non stop, i enjoy reading more so  you don't have to wait long to get my opinion which can be good. Today i'm sharing my point of view about The Good Griffin a new release by J.C.McKenzie.

Enjoy!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2018
Genre: paranormal romance
Violence: strong
Language: normal
sex: steamy
Public: 18+

 Description from goodreads :

He's a good griffin, with a bad temper...
Detective Damian Charming yearns to sweep a certain feisty lynx shifter off her feet. Every time he tries to talk to her, however, he sticks his foot in his mouth. He doesn't mean to sound condescending. Life would be easier if Lucy admitted he knows best, especially now that someone in town has threatened her. He's a good griffin (mostly) until someone messes with what is his.

She's an unlucky lynx with no time for trouble...
Lucy May hates Stillwater detective Damian Charming. Sure, he helped her with a horrible situation and has looks to rival the gods, but he also views lynx shifters as inferior supernatural beings. When someone targets the business she worked hard to create, though, Lucy turns to the one man she knows will mercilessly unearth the culprit.

It's more than just hex appeal...
When a hex sends the town in a storm of sexual shenanigans in the middle of the investigation, Lucy realizes just how bad she has it for the griffin. Now she needs to convince Damian her feelings are true and reel him in before his need for vengeance destroys the entire town.

The books in That Old Black Magic world and Heart's Desired Mate Series can be read as stand-alone stories and in any order

My opinion:
I loved this romance a lot first it includes shifters but not the usual ones here we have griffin and lynx and it was my first book with a griffin shifter so i was very curious....as for big cats ( there are others than lynx) they are simply too funny in general.

In this case our heroes are in a big misunderstanding, they love each other already but each one think the other feels only hate ....so it's funny to see their banter while they are the only ones blind to their feelings. Damian is very protective of Lucy but isn't talented in communication as a big alpha he tends to order too much. However when some shops and Lucy's get vandalized  our griffin goes on mission to protect her even if it means not following the rules.

Lucy is loyal, kind and her animal part is really funny as a lynx she is a good hunter but thinks that Damian sees her as  under his standard. While she is one of the very few knowing what kind of shifter he really is. Griffin are believed to be legend.

The story is really good with action, twists, humour and lot of romance ; it can be read as standalone without trouble even if i admit i would be happy to discover more about this universe where shifters have magic and where warlocks wander around.

The investigation was interesting, even if we don't get all the answers but i'm hoping  in the future we will get more info.

I do recommend this story if you want a fast but very good and original paranormal romance.

Description from goodreads :

The Greene sisters are back in this witchin' new series from USA Today bestselling author A. GARDNER!

Kill 'em with kindness . . . or just kill 'em.

A simple act of southern hospitality pulls Ember Greene into a murder investigation when she finds her new neighbor, a vampire exec at Corpse Corp., dead. And the mysterious wound that killed him points to someone she least suspects.

The coastal town of Misty Key is in a frenzy with the annual craft fair approaching, a ghastly remodel at the Crystal Grande Hotel, and a Peeping Tom haunting the streets at night. But with the family bakery struggling to stay afloat, Ember doesn't have time for gossip.

Until her friend is framed for murder.

To save an innocent soul, she enlists the help of a bloodhound named Yogi and her sister who sees the dead and uses her psychic gifts to snuff out the real killer. Something isn't right in the magical world, and a trail of clues leads her to another victim – one with a secret worth dying for.

Can Ember catch the murderer and save the family bakery?

Book 2 in the Southern Psychic Sisters mystery series! A light-hearted cozy mystery featuring quirky small-town characters, magic, and recipes. This book does not contain cliffhangers, graphic violence, gore, or profanity.

My opinion:
Fabulous!!! I loved this paranormal cozy mystery...really it was read in one sitting and  i'm just wanting to read more now. The story is great well paced and  great bonus (cherry on the cake) i didn't guess all what was happening in the first chapters. No , there are a lot of twists and so well written that you keep being surprised until the end so this one is definitively a favourite.

I guess i should explain a little more, this is the second book in the series but you can jump in the wagon without worry of being lost. Ember is a seer with the power of numbers...she is born in a seers family so her sisters and mother also have powers but each one has a different one , like Stevie the oldest who see the dead....in this universe Seers are seen as mediator between paranormal...so aside from a mundane job to have funds to live they must work free for the greater good...Ember works in the family bakery- as far from the oven as possible-but when her neighbour is killed in strange circumstances and one of her shifter friend is being accused she must discover the truth and quickly but vampires dead or alive are not the most cooperative being.

I loved to see the relation between the sisters and how different they are, Ember is really cute and i loved the fact she was not perfect , far from it even. She is loyal and still learning her gift so i really admired her.I would also love to learn more about Stevie, her gift isn't the easiest and as single mother she must even have harder but still she is smiling and cooking fantastic cake to make other happy. Aqua is the rebel one and she can be funny but i most loved the dog Yogi. Thad is funny and i definitively want to learn more about him too.

This is the perfect book if you want a cozy mystery with paranormal element set in the south so i recommend it without any hesitation while waiting for book 3!

 Description from goodreads :

The third book in a gripping, action-packed fantasy series readers are describing as "enchanting" and "a breath of fresh air".

When Fenix's fellow gang member Twain sneaks away and gets trapped in a dilapidated building, she races off to rescue him.

But she's not the only one seeking her fallen colleague.

Enemies stewing with grudges against Alda and the gang are out to exploit Twain's misfortune.

On a collision course with powerful forces hell-bent on revenge, Fenix has to draw on both her emerging magical powers and her fighting skills if she's to stop their deadly schemes. But the price she has to pay is high and she finds she must decide how far she'll risk her own life to save a friend.

My opinion:

A series of quality....it's not always true that  series keep the same level of quality in the writing and in the content but so far with this one i haven't been disappointed at all; it still really well written and the suspense is still there making us want more...it's even slightly better i would say.

Fenix is maturing but not too quickly which is good seeing her age and the  time between each book, poor girl keeps having things throw at her and she sure adapts better that i would. She is conscious of her responsibilities but she is also able to ask for help when needed and i really loved that about her. More importantly she is very loyal.

i loved to see her ready to fight for what she believes in and at the same time preferring if other solutions were possible.  We learn a bit more about her powers in each book as she is discovering them or learning from Gaius however i would said that this time we do see her practice and  start believing in her powers more but we learn more about the villains for once....

Micha the vampire is still trying to be a good guy but he has some difficulties which kind of make me even more curious about what will happen. He does open more to Fénix as well - something which she still should do-

This time we are confronted to Alda big enemy who allied herself with Micha's so a war is brewing , lot of action and fight and in the middle of that  the same two police officers are trying to get a grip of what is happening ( for one at least the other is more on a revenge path) while completely blinded by their short views or misconceptions.

it's really a promising urban fantasy that i take pleasure reading and next book will be one i will look forward to.
