Queen of Corvids ( Raven Crawford 3 ) by J.C McKenzie

Hello to all,

A New week stuck at home and looks like there will be many more to come but at least i got some good books to pass the time so i will share my opinion on some with you starting with teh 3rd book in the Raven Crawford series by JC McKenzie.

Happy Reading and courage to all!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2020
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: strong
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

Truth can be ugly and part-time waitress, casual PI investigator, and half-fae shifter, Raven Crawford, can’t deny she owes the Lord of War a favour. If she defaults on her debt, she relinquishes all her power to a man who doesn’t know the meaning of mercy. And she thought her bank loans were bad.

With her new role in the Underworld contending with her debt to a dictator, a budding romance with the Lord of Shadows, and her need to pay the bills, Raven is in serious need of balance. But the moment the dark fae walked into her diner months ago, she’s been off-balance.

It’s time for Raven to pull up her big girl socks and prove to everyone she’s no longer the burnt-out waitress with a nifty parlour trick.

She’s the Queen of Corvids

My opinion:
Great book! Really all went up in this instalment more action, more fights, more fun , more violence ( then dark fae are violent) and more steam! It's just wonderfully written to have us hooked right at the beginning.

Raven is trying to adjust to her new position of Queen of Corvids while staying alive and pay her debt to Bane...but she still has a lot to learn despite having Cole as an advisor as well as a lover....I loved to see her think about her relationship with Cole because it's true it went fast but she does reflect on it and dig deeper. Also Rouke show a new side of himself which is wonderful and funny

It's a non stop action with enemies in Mortal realm and others among the fae but not only. we also discover a new side  " Roller" thankfully more neutral because Raven has really a lot on her plate and she doesn't realise all her abilities yet.
This is a funny,  full of action, story but it make sense when read in order more as we can see the evolution of the characters  i was eager to learn more about the universe and this book offered us that  with an excellent intrigue
Raven is courageous, loyal and she has a good heart.  The only thing that bothered me a little is that i had the feeling one group got it too easy....i understand the why with Raven personality but still i wasn't happy about that  otherwise it's simply perfect.

to recommend

Monsters Under the Magnolia (Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries 3 ) by J. L. Collins

Hello to all!

I'm back with the third instalment in the Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries, while book 2 had disappointed me a little this one is of good quality and made me want for more again....

Happy reading!
Publisher: J. L. Collins
Publication: 2020
Genre: cozy mystery, southern, paranormal cozy mystery
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

 Welcome to Witch Hazel Lane...
Former Vegas star and witch in hiding, Birdie Devaine is ready for a vacation away from all of the stresses of an ongoing (and haunted) house renovation. Lucky for her she’s got a first-class ticket aboard one of the swankiest cruise ships in the world. Along with her best friends, Birdie’s ready to set sail through the warm Caribbean waters, soak up some much needed sun and sip on some much needed fruity drinks…

But a trip to paradise comes with a price. And on a ship full of magical beings, the price is steep.

Murders. Kidnappings. Something fishy is going on aboard the Magnolia On Water, and Birdie isn’t willing to let her wishes for a relaxing vacation get in the way of finding the killer. Or killers.

And with an old friend in danger, Birdie is determined to get to the bottom of this string of murders… before she ends up at the bottom of the ocean.

My opinion:
I loved this new instalment, it was interesting to see some witches and warlocks to see some other powers and magical abilities even if we only saw a little.

The setting was great and it was even better to see all the girls working with Birdie on this investigation and to see how they care about Birdie  as well. The investigation was well done with some twists and the rhythm was just what was needed to make us unable to stop before the last page.

A great instalment for this good southern cozy mysteries series. to read in order as we get a light cliffhanger at the end of the this book.

Score:  4,5/5

Constant Risk ( A Bree & Tanner Thriller3) by Janie Crouch

Hello to all!

Some in the world are lucky to get book earlier than others but thankfully with time we all can get our hands on good books. Today i'm sharing with you my feeling about the latest Bree and Tanner novel by Janie Cropuch while waiting for the last book in the series very soon.

Happy Reading

Publisher: Harlequin Intrigue
Publication: 2019
Genre: romantic suspense
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

 The hunters
Become the hunted.

Deputy Tanner Dempsey and Bree Daniels are tasked with unraveling a deadly mystery in Dallas—one that involves transmitting live feeds of victims trapped in tanks as they fill with water. Bree’s computer genius is their only hope at solving the crime. Knowing the darkness in Bree’s past, Tanner is determined to make sure she comes out of this emotionally unscathed. Especially once they both become a killer’s next target…

My opinion:

Reading more about Bree & Tanner is always a pleasure. i love to see how both characters are evolving along the series as well as their relationship becoming deeper and deeper. At this point they do understand each other not perfectly yet but so much better than before still some misunderstanding are possible and those made me smile as it was so cute.

This investigation isn't related to their past, even if it's never too far, as they are asked to help in a series of murders and kidnapping in Dallas where Bree  genius mind is their last hope , Tanner just tag along to help her adjust to stranger and kind of act as a emotional translator . Not that it will stay that simple of course.

This is a real page turner ,  i loved the intrigue and how the author gave us more to expect before diverting us to another lead once more to keep us on our toes. There were humour with Noah and Tanner 's banters and other moment but also some sweet ones to balance with the heavy suspense part. Really a must read this could work as stand alone but i can't recommend you enough to read this whole series in order.

Shamrock (Linear Tactical 3) by Janie Crouch

Hello to all,

I was supposed to post this last week but i got really sick ( still not healed) and between the fever and headache reading or screen were not my friends. Really sorry ( will do better in 2019)
I will try to get back on track soon but to start i'm sharing with you my opinion on a new release in the Linear tactical series by Janie Crouch : Shamrock

Happy reading!

Publisher: Calamity Jane Publishing
Publication: 2018
Genre: romantic suspense
Violence: strong,rape allusion
Language: normal
sex: strong
Public: 18+
Description from goodreads :

Every mission has a price.
He never meant for her to pay it.

Aiden has never left anyone behind. Not a comrade and certainly not an innocent. But when an undercover mission goes wrong, he's forced to abandon a woman trapped in a human trafficking ring.

Violet learned brutally that no one is promised a happy ending. She knows Aiden blames himself for his part, but she refuses to let her abduction define the rest of her life.

She won’t be a victim again. And she’s going after what she wants: Aiden.

Watching Violet transform herself into a fierce warrior is the sexiest thing Aiden has ever seen. The honorable plan would be to stay away from her—let her heal and grow without the shadow of his mistakes clouding her progress—even though every instinct tells him to claim her for his own.

But when they discover the danger they thought they’d left behind is closer than ever, they’ll have to confront their fears and fight side-by-side in order to survive.

My opinion:
Aiden is deep undercover when he sees something that makes him react....and willing to blow his cover however fate decide otherwise.....Still he can't forget the redhead who simply wasn't in her place and looked like a frightened deer.  I thinks that's quite telling about his character, he knows he is working for greater ends but still he is willing to sacrifices everything

Violet has no idea how bad the world really is before her kidnapping and even then she only get a glimpse as she is kind of protected (her captor are not supposed to harm her and a firm no sex rule is applied) but " kind" is important as she is far from sheltered as well.  I really admired her for surviving that, i don't think my mind would have been as strong.  When released she sure has flashback but she isn't trying to stay at home protected no she wants to become independent and realise her real dream  like opening her bakery.

Really those two were right for each other and i loved to see how Violet's brother Gabriel ( Gabe) was overprotective. their interaction were funny.

What i appreciated even more was the link with the author's other series omega sector that i enjoy as well. We only hear about those characters we don't meet them but that allusion was enough to make me smile and hope for more.

Really it's an excellent instalment even if it's not my favourite couple. I recommend without hesitation.

Score:  4,5/5

Beneath a Sinister Moon ( The Demons Hunters series book 3) by D.A. Roach

Hello to all !!

Less than 3 weeks before Christmas...are you ready?i know for sure that i'm not^^ .However even if i'm deep in gifts making, wrapping etc this week i want to share my opinion about new release with you ( books are always great gift under Cfhristmas tree after all)

so today we start with book 3 ( actually the last) in the Demon Hunter series by DA Roach

Happy reading!!!
Publisher: Limitless Publishing LLC
isbn: 1640344780
Publication: 2018
Genre: YA; urban fantasy
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+

Description from goodreads :

The premonition is clear. Demons are coming for Cassidy, and once her blood has been spilled humanity will be lost. Not only has Tyler been tasked with assassinating Cassidy, but killing her will be the last step he needs to take in order to become a full demon.

Killian knows this and vows to keep Cassidy safe, but not everything is as it seems. Figuring out who to trust, who to confide in isn’t easy. With so much at stake one wrong move could mean the end of the human world, causing Cassidy and Killian to lose everything…even each other.

With a war raging between two sides, Cassidy and Tyler find themselves at the heart of battle between good and evil. She wants to save Tyler. He wants to kill her.

What will it take to restore the balance?

And will Cassidy be strong enough to make the ultimate sacrifice if it means saving the world?

My opinion:
Captivating, the author took her time to write this book but the wait was more than worth it as the quality is here . We do get our answers ( and if you don't read the epilogue it concludes perfectly).
Our characters are facing their greatest challenge so far and it's far from easy for them.....Cassidy is learning to master new powers while not giving up to her fears after being held by Rya.

Killian is seeing what he really want and must make decision for his clan yes but also for himself. . He must decide if he is willing to let Cassidy join him in the field or to protect her and that's a dilemma for him now even more than before. What he will be willing to sacrifice.

Tyler has choices to make while in demon realm. It was very interesting to see him interact with Jace ; how he was thinking without realizing it.

Then we get the rest of the team Lena, who lost points in my eyes, Casper who is even more my favourite now than before, Jax, Jackson and Skylar as well as all the others.

Really it's a excellent book, fast pace with several twist to keep you hooked. A real page turner with very interesting conclusion. Lot of action, moving moment, heartbreaking ones all very well balanced in the story.

The author did put an epilogue but like she warns reader if you want the story concluded with an HEA and no questions left unanswered just stop before reading it. .The epilogue is back being dark a bit confusing and opening a lot more questions ( for perhaps more books), it does fit the series but for me it was better without it.

Score:  4,5/5 or 5/5 if you don't read the epilogue

Release Me (Storm Lords 3) by Nina Croft

Hello to all,

Winter certainly came late but now it's here full force with more than one week under zero...which give me plently of time to read. I've always loved what i 've read from Nina Croft and there is one series i somewhat missed " Storm Lords"...this week the third instalment release in a anthology so i had to discover it even if it was totally out of order ( thankfully i got the book i missed now as i need them^^)

So until i give you my opinion on the first two books let's see this 3rd one.

Happy reading

Publisher: nina croft
Publication: 2018
Genre: paranormal romance
Violence: strong
Language: normal
sex: strong
Public: 18+

Description from nina croft website :

A thousand years ago, Finn Stanton was given a chance to get back the woman he loved enough to break the laws of Heaven. All he has to do is find her, and all she has to do is say I love you.

Never going to happen.

Having drunk of the Elixir of Life, Rachel Miller’s soul is tied to the earth in a perpetual cycle of death and rebirth. A widow, she lives with her six-year-old son in a strict religious community. She has no memory of the lives she has lived, though she is haunted by a love she can’t remember and a loss she can’t overcome.

Finn has no plans to even look for his wife. He betrayed her once, and the best thing he can do for her now is stay away. But fate has a way of hijacking the best of plans and Finn comes face to face with Rachel. Now he has five days before he loses her forever.

My opinion:
For my first step into this universe i was happily surprised as i didn't feel as i was missing any important elements, we get a few background info and learn more about the universe along the story, so even if it's book 3 you can start with this one and, like me,  jump on what you missed after.

Finn is an alpha but one very protective...and i guess the wolf part is part of the reason that while alpha he doesn't try to dominate Rachel. On the contrary, he still feel guilty for what happened thousand years ago and he is willing to pay for that.
I loved to see him  try to do the right thing.

Rachel has a kind of secluded life but for someone with her power it was probably best as she is really a good person, she is very innocent and following her instinct. She grew on me very quickly.

I loved the universe with angel, fallen ( or so called) angel but more importantly i loved to se how each character lived the situation and still kept hope.

i would say that i only regretted 2 things, one part  2 (or max3) paragraphs seemed to me as repetition and in such a short book, i don't need to have explanation repeated to me ( then in an arc it can happen and final version could differ slightly so it didn't affect my opinion). Then...the ending i would have loved to know more about what Gabriel thought of Cassia intervention because it should definitively count as a breach of the contract and i would have loved to see the reaction of the wolves after but it's only me

so i do recommend this book if you love paranormal romance with fallen angel and shifters

Score:  3,5/5

Magic Aflame ( The Peacesmith series 3) by Carly Hansen

Hello to all,

I wanted to post this a few days ago but i came accross technical difficulties added to bad news that took me down ( since then a wonderful news changed the whole situation thankfully) so i'm late and i'm sorry for that. I do plan to read more before the end of the year so you will get more posts but for new i must tell you about a new release in a series i follow with a lot of pleasure: The Peacesmith series by Carly Hansen

so without waiting longer here is my point of view on Magic Aflame

Happy reading.
Publisher: Carly Hansen
Publication: 2017
Genre: urban fantasy YA
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+
Source: earc

 Description from goodreads :

The third book in a gripping, action-packed fantasy series readers are describing as "enchanting" and "a breath of fresh air".

When Fenix's fellow gang member Twain sneaks away and gets trapped in a dilapidated building, she races off to rescue him.

But she's not the only one seeking her fallen colleague.

Enemies stewing with grudges against Alda and the gang are out to exploit Twain's misfortune.

On a collision course with powerful forces hell-bent on revenge, Fenix has to draw on both her emerging magical powers and her fighting skills if she's to stop their deadly schemes. But the price she has to pay is high and she finds she must decide how far she'll risk her own life to save a friend.

My opinion:

A series of quality....it's not always true that  series keep the same level of quality in the writing and in the content but so far with this one i haven't been disappointed at all; it still really well written and the suspense is still there making us want more...it's even slightly better i would say.

Fenix is maturing but not too quickly which is good seeing her age and the  time between each book, poor girl keeps having things throw at her and she sure adapts better that i would. She is conscious of her responsibilities but she is also able to ask for help when needed and i really loved that about her. More importantly she is very loyal.

i loved to see her ready to fight for what she believes in and at the same time preferring if other solutions were possible.  We learn a bit more about her powers in each book as she is discovering them or learning from Gaius however i would said that this time we do see her practice and  start believing in her powers more but we learn more about the villains for once....

Micha the vampire is still trying to be a good guy but he has some difficulties which kind of make me even more curious about what will happen. He does open more to Fénix as well - something which she still should do-

This time we are confronted to Alda big enemy who allied herself with Micha's so a war is brewing , lot of action and fight and in the middle of that  the same two police officers are trying to get a grip of what is happening ( for one at least the other is more on a revenge path) while completely blinded by their short views or misconceptions.

it's really a promising urban fantasy that i take pleasure reading and next book will be one i will look forward to.

Score:  4/5

Ax to Grind ( Kenni Lowry 3) by Tonya Kappes

Hello to all,

Sorry to have been silent lately but i got a virus and it's a stronger one so i didn't win, now i got antibiotic and should be better by the end of the month......i really need to be careful as with me cold can get worse quickly. I will try to do my best to compensate for thazt time out but one step at a time.

Today release a  new Tonya Kappes cozy mystery in the Kenni Lowry series so i couldn't miss that and if you are behind in this series and quick you could grab the first book at very small price so don't hesitate! Now let see this third book: Ax to Grind

Happy reading

Publication: 2017
ISBN:  1635112478
Genre: Cozy mystery
Violence: mild

Language: normal
sex: mild ( allusion)
Public: 16+

Description from goodreads :

Southerners keep their secrets swept under the rug, but what happens when that rug goes up for sale?

Bestselling author Berlye Stone, the most famous citizen to ever come out of Cottonwood, Kentucky, has died and put all her worldly possessions up for auction, but not without leaving one more manuscript behind. A hidden tell-all about Cottonwood that’s got more gossip than a ladies’ luncheon.

When Beryle’s assistant turns up with an ax in her back and the only witness is in a coma, Sheriff Kenni Lowry reckons someone in town will do anything to keep the manuscript from seeing the light of day. Her poppa’s ghost returns to help piece together the life of the Beryle he once knew, but his memory’s a little foggy, and any misstep could cause them a world of trouble. With the help of Deputy Finn Vincent, can Kenni sort through the secrets buried in Beryle’s books, or will this be her final chapter?

My opinion:
I loved it! Tonya Kappes sure can give us a wonderful setting (Cottonwoods) and a feeling of the south atmosphere and it's a big part of what i like in the cozy mystery with that area setting even if i'm glad no to live there at the same time.  In this instalment  the mystery was very deep and it's funny to see so many people wanting to keep their secrets buried, and doing so much for that, especially  when some  are quite innocent...then in a town where you can't do a thing without everybody knowing it in minutes it's already a mystery that some secrets exist.

The intrigue was very well done and captivating, now i must say that i'm very curious about the consequences too but before thinking on book 4 let 's speak about number 3. Really the plot was great but also the characters interactions, seeing how the town can split for an election and how Kenni can be a furious woman when she feel betrayed was really fun, now i'm suspicious of Jenni and i still dislike Lonnie but i've discovered new character like Hattie who is moving, Kenni's mother is still on war path too  and all that mixes wonderfully under Tonya writing and deliver a story we want more of.

The pace is just perfect to keep us hooked  alternating between investigation, mystery and humour  and it's just  great!

i do recommend this series if you love southern mysteries and well written cozy ones.

Score:  4,5/5

Review: The Demon Who Loved Me ( Big Bad Bite 3) by Jessie Lane

Hello to all!!

So since i'm taking part in the tour for "The Demon Who Loved Me" release you can find all the info and a giveaway  here ( this review is there also). However i thought it would be easier to also put my review in the same format than usual so here it is.

Happy reading
Publisher: Whiskey Girls Publishing
Publication: 2017
Genre: paranormal romance,
Violence: mild

Language: strong
sex: steamy
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

  He’s a gambling man…

One brunette bombshell with a devious mind and a potty mouth has thrust Kent smack dab in the middle of where he never wanted to be—his family. He’s spent most of his life avoiding his familial responsibilities, especially the one that required him to join the Ninth Circle Council—the demon society’s equivalent of judge, jury, and executioner. Then one lost bet with a little Amazon flips his entire life upside down. With worries about retaliation from the remnants of a rogue pack of wolves in Germany, he doesn’t have time to deal with his family, or his obsession with Chloe Demos.

And she’s the biggest risk he’ll ever take…

After her mother’s death, Chloe’s world crashes down around her. A secret Amazonian heritage. Aunts and a long lost brother she never knew about. Supernatural beings. With all of the sudden changes, she’s decided it’s time to step out from behind her façade of an air-headed, materialistic bimbo and show her sisters she truly does love them—she only hates their wardrobes. What better way to show she cares about her family than to help prove someone close to one of them is innocent of the bogus murder charges from some ridiculous council? Chloe has no scruples about calling in the marker the demon Kent owes her in order to do just that. It’s only too bad she’s underestimated Kent’s intelligence, and his playboy charm.

My opinion:
This series is very entertaining and i was really looking forward more Kent as he was one of the most mysterious characters....on that part i wasn't disappointed we learn more about him for sure, his past, name, power and what is really important for him. I really loved that and he is so loyal and underestimated or more exactly we don't even give him a chance to show how he is really.

Chloe also hide her real personality under lot of appearance and prefer to let people think what they want if that means they are underestimating her....but if what stranger think doesn't count she suffers that her own family doesn't see more deeply under her cover.

I loved to see a bit more about Elena and Gage even if what we see this time just lead to more questions than answer ( though i wonder if Chloe's action isn't for something in that)anyway we get a lot of answers, some more question, the eternal cliffhanger...

The only thing that bothered me a little was the language, a little isn't bad but Chloe and Kent together that sure change the level of the series so far....i wasn't that happy either that started going together simply for a bed or frustration..... i don't mind steamy when it's meaningful but at the beginning it's not really the case as they don't trust each other and have something to prove...that disappointed me little and no matter how intelligent Chloe is, and it's sure she is a good match for Kent, i still have difficulty to appreciate her.

Really a good series, we want more off

Fury’s Kiss ( Dorina Basarab 3) by Karen Chance

Hello to all!

Really there isn't enough time in the day to do all we want, or have, to do... at least in my case. Right now i'm back at making list to make sure i'm not forgetting any task and it's time for the review of the week!
This time i'm going back in a universe i really enjoy via it's spin off which i think i'm even starting to like more than the main one but honestly i can only recommend to read both series and jumping from one to the other following the reading line the author kindly provided it makes the experience a lot more pleasurable.

So without waiting here comes " Fury's Kiss" third book in the Dorina Basarab series by Karen CHance

Happy reading!
Publisher: Penguin
Publication: 2012
ISBN:  0451413237
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: mild
Public: 18+
Source: bought

Short description from goodreads :

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing...

Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.

It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.

To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead…

My opinion:
I loved this book but I must say it was far from the easiest to read in the series…. It can even be really confusing at time with the memories from different characters, the time shifts and the mind speaking added.  I’m not sure I’ve grasped all the details either honestly but at the same time strangely I was never lost if it makes sense…
Karen Chance mastered her story in a very interesting way leading you one way then another without a reprieve but you do glimpse some info along this tortuous path and you can’t be driven wrong. In a sense, while I would not recommend it at all, this book could even works as standalone probably, though it doesn’t represent all the instalments. It has been years since I’ve read the precedent books or one in the other series Cassandra Clare (both series intertwine in the time line) but really it was not a problem for the understanding of the plot.

Dory is a damphir, as the daughter of a senate member she isn’t hunted but works with the vampires at the moment which doesn’t means she trusts them or like them….Things get complicated when she is the sole survivor of a mission and worse a mission she has no memory of….. She wants to discover the truth and for that she is taking risks….
I loved how Dory was maturing, able to put her prejudices aside for what she believes in and… getting some elements of her past was both informative and entertaining….we start to understand Dorina, the vampire part of Dory, in a new light….the author really did well by using the method of storytelling and memories travel to give them to us it fit wonderfully with the world building and what we learned in past instalments…even if it can leads to some confusion yes.
You see when Dory get full damphir mode, survival mode, it’s Dorina personality that is at command and normally one doesn’t remember what the other did ( as we were told)…so we get part from Dorina point of view and other from Dory…some actual , some from the past and the transition is sometimes abrupt.

For example we have the case of a child…but I still don’t understand how Dory/ Dorina “lost” it during their escape…because Luis Cesare never speak of him/her either….we have another mention later but is it the same child? I guess but I’m not sure and that moment I don’t know where to put it in the story frame time….. there are so many  jump between past nights and present ones that left me confused on some elements like this one.

However the main plot, the investigation, what happened etc. is perfectly clear and so enjoyable… I did guess the culprit ( a talent of mine) too quickly but discovering the “why “and “how “ along the ride kept my interest  well focused on the story which I’ve read in one sitting.

I don’t want to tell you too much because all the mysteries are part of the story in itself and you should savour it. So, I can tell you that the action is intense, the romance finally takes more importance and with Dory personality and snarky remarks the humour is a big part of this book as well. Some characters will surprises you other will moves you and you will want to beat others . It’s a great story and I can only regret that the next book, which promises to be something, isn’t released yet nor will it be soon because it’s a series I really want more of.

If you love action romance and dark humour ^^ it’s a book/series for you!

Score:  4/5

Short description from goodreads :

Nurse Edie Spence is once again called upon to save a life…and this time, it’s personal. Can her new community of zombies, vampires, and shapeshifters come to her rescue when she needs them most?

When Edie was fired from her paranormal nursing job at County Hospital, her whole world came crashing down. Now she’s is once again shaken to her core. Her mother is deathly ill and there’s only one thing that will save her: vampire blood. But with the paranormal community shunning Edie, where can she obtain it…without losing her own life in the process?

SHAPESHIFTED

Edie hopes to procure it at her new job at the clinic across town, where the forces of evil loom large. Vampire gang wars are rampant. Old underground enemies are rising to the surface. And Edie’s zombie ex-boyfriend has arrived at the scene—but is he the same man he used to be? And what should she make of the enigmatic doctor with whom she shares an unexpected connection? She’ll have to figure it out soon, because all hell is about to break loose—literally—and time is running out…

My opinion:
I’m definitively warming at this series,  it’s even better than that I Loved this book!. Edie is maturing, she is starting to see what is the most important without loosing herself..i could only appreciate her this time. She is suffering from her shunning and then worse she learn her mother is dying from cancer….i know first hand how for a child to learn one parent is dying is something terrifying…we don’t know how to imagine ourselves without our parents, we rely on them even if only emotionally and then we learn it won’t last….we are never prepared for that and I guess it’s harder for Edie because as a nurse she knows how it will happen…. It’s even clearer for her... thus the feeling of unfairness, the want to do something to help even if she can’t.

To be honest I loved the fact she could think more about it at first she doesn’t doubt her decision, vampires blood can cure her so she need it.. but after a moment she also see the consequences….and understand how selfish it can be….. forcing her mother into servitude isn’t a life… she would breathe but in which condition? Which state? I must say I was glad Dren kept his promise even if he made him sound as a jerk because really he was acting to keep his promise not to hurt. Edie needed to be told the truth even if it something she didn’t want to hear.

Also Edie is more stable…she isn’t sleeping around she can have lovers yes but she think about it now and I prefer responsible heroine.I thought that working in that hospital/ clinic was really a good thing for her, it has the stress from the job but in a positive way…. No contract on her head like before, in a way her soul is free. For the first time she think about her and it’s not easy so it’s a good thing in her case. Oki I was a little surprised she couldn’t believe in Olympio’s don at first, I mean after everything she had see she should be more open minded but I was funny and I loved the little phrases in Spanish…. I’m learning it so it was an interesting exercise. … I could imagine her opening a special clinic , even for supernatural, too without including shadows for example because after all…they do come to ask her help.

The plot was really well done and Cassie kept us on our toes, we could guess parts yes, predict some but at the end we were still surprised at how she created things. I definitively wants more and I do hope Edie won’t go back to her bad attitude, enter in the shadows powers or something like that. I loved to see more of Ti, Asher and yes even Jorgen….. I must say I’m really curious about what Anna will do after all she was shunned when Jorgen , at Dren’s order, came to her.. will that means Dren will have to pay?  I do hope he will be the one punished because Jorgen acted bad but he is paying a high price for his stupidity already.

It’s really becoming a series I enjoy more and more so I can only hope it will continue to be that way. If you love urban fantasy mixed with medical…..this is a series for you. (I do wonder if nurses, all, steal as much as edie^^;;)

Third Grave Dead Ahead ( Charley Davidson 3) by Darynda Jones

Hello to all,

This week was what we call in my country " Les Saints de Glace" or Saints of ice and the saying kept showing true as the temperature dropped significantly....with the rain as well it wasn't a good time for those suffering from changing time like i do. Fortunately the sun did make an appearance today to make us smile and hope the spring/summer are really on the way now.

As for reading i must say i slowed down a lot despite a lot of books calling for my attention ( i can't even decide which one i will start first ;) ) but i didn't forgot about you so here comes my opinion on the third book in the charley davidson series

 Enjoy

Short description from goodreads :

Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back! And she's drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because every time she closes her eyes she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan.

Granted she did imprison Reyes for all eternity, but how is she supposed to solve a missing-persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hell-bent on murder when the devil's son just won't give up on his plan of seduction..... and revenge?

My opinion:
Charley really has problems with the men in her life…..she can be the grim reaper but still that’s no excuse for them to use her like they do. I was angry with her father after the events in book2 now he really disgusts me. Reyes isn’t far behind… the jerk not only he is making Charley ill by lack of sleep and thus more vulnerable but he keep threatening her family and then… he just does worse. In this story he really disappointed me and his past is no excuse.

Now all my frustrating against them aside, it’s the first book in this series I enjoy as much. The interaction between Charley and Cookie, Garret Swopes but also the whole plot really it was excellent. I had suspicion about the guardian identity and the one she could be responsible for dying but the author managed top make me doubts several times ( morality always trust your instinct). I loved to discover the existence of the angels and I must say I loved the bikers^^ Donovan is promising to be a really interesting character from now on.

The investigation in this one was really well wrapped (though I guessed what the good doctor was doing^^) well built to make us imagine a lot of possibilities and throwing us off balance. Added to the earl walker‘s ones Charley was really busy all while being over exhausted.  This book revealed a lot of information and is really a great addition to the series.

The only thing that i regretted was the sex part… starting so early in the book, first pages,  it’s not really their present but the way they were written that put me off a little… I don’t know I felt it could have written in a less vulgar form ( and if she could stop kissing other males too it would help^^) but as a whole of this series this book is my favourite and kept me on edge^^.

To recommend to lover of sexy reads, urban fantasy, sexy demons and great investigation.
