Bruises, Paint, & Passports

Hey all. It's been awhile. I'll just do an update to start. Friday night I went to a birthday party at Mason Dixon where you can order beer by the bucket and ride a mechanical bull. Oh yeah, I rode that bull. I was going to post a picture but none of them look exciting. I lucked out because my only injuries are a small bruise the size of the tip of my finger on the inside of each thigh. Some people told me they have bruising all down their thighs. I did not ask to see.

After Saturday morning brunch with Casey I had a strong desire to spend time at the hardware store. Since it was pouring out I figured it was a good day to stay in the apartment and paint all the wood doors black. I picked up my supplies and spent the rest of the day priming and painting to my hearts content. The black glossy paint I used dried perfectly with a sheen that makes it look like I covered the doors in leather. Perfect! When I was done I laid back and enjoyed the fumes.

Sunday night I had a birthday party to attend at Beauty Bar. It's an interesting place where the walls are lined with old fashioned hairdryers. On Wednesdays you can get a free manicure when you purchase a martini. I find that sort of gross. The party turned into more of a photo shoot but we had a great time. I also considered posting a photo of this but I have a feeling my friends won't appreciate me posting photos of them on a public blog.

I called out of work on Monday due to feeling crappy and spent the entire day in bed. I could have used yesterday to accomplish so much more... but no.

Over the weekend I also received my passport. I keep staring at it and thinking I could just leave right now. I can get in a cab to JFK, charge a flight to a credit card and go wherever the hell I want. If only I didn't have to do things like, go to work and maintain a job so I can pay rent. I would also need to pay off that credit card. Is it worth it? I don't know.

Peep Show!
I just realized it's almost that time of year where children play with eggs and dye, eat shit loads of chocolate, and get easily distracted playing in the yard looking for things for hours. Since moving to New York I had never celebrated this holiday but last year we had a grand time. A lovely lady with the last name Eyster held Eyster Brunch. We all showed up and drank a lot per usual. William brought us eggs with scary pictures and lotto tickets inside. Someone brought a bodega baby Jesus candle so we lit it at the table for brunch and every bar we hit after. At some point we lost him in a gay bar with a stripper. Then we all stumbled back to our homes and tried to drink enough water to go to work the next day. It's a lot like St. Patrick's day come to think of it. *sigh* I miss those good old brunches we used to have. What happened to us? Did we all get too old? Did our livers give up? It's been a long time since I've woken up on Doodle's futon at 6am Monday morning realizing I have to go to work soon.

Sunday Brunch

Brunching is one of the best Sunday activities in New York City. Today I met some friends at some Italian place around one. The service was horrible but we still had a good time. It was one of the rare brunches that didn't last all day. After a couple glasses of champagne I went to Boarders for a new book and took the bus back to my apartment. Then I promptly fell asleep. When did naps become so wonderful? Is it one of the signs you are getting old? Maybe it was the champagne. Whatever it was, I wish I could do it more often.

And I'm Off

I'm trying to get through this last work day. Only four more hours before I head to Laguardia. I should be in my hometown tonight but I usually get stuck overnight in Chicago which is just sort of annoying. Not a problem though. I'm looking forward to some much needed time off from work.

Last night Casey took me out to celebrate the holidays. His family sent a gift for me of a little animal that sings my favorite scat song ever.

We went to Rockefeller to see the tree and falling ice skaters. We walked up to the rink ledge right after somebody proposed then watched them Zamboni for awhile. We never saw anyone skate let alone crash on their butt and ram into a wall. *Sigh* Oh well. Casey had a dinner reservation but he didn't tell me where so we headed downtown and walked up to what looked like a brothel to me. It was Lips "The Ultimate in Drag Dining". Dinner AND a show? It's Diva night? I get to watch a man dressed as Madonna tell my boyfriend to "Get on the floor." ? It was freakin' awesome! Casey has the best ideas. Oh, and guess what? They do brunch! Unlimited Champagne and Mimosas. (Of course I checked.)

It was a good night and a nice send off to the Midwest for 6 days. I hope my plant doesn't die. I have to go get coffee and cab money now. Later Kids.

Tis the Season

The season for going out way too much. I had a lovely day yesterday even though the weather was a watery slush mix falling from the sky. I met NYCeCe, A, and Kelly for our annual holiday gathering. We had brunch on the UWS for a couple hours. Screaming kids crawled along the floor under tables of this very nice restaurant. It was gross. If your twelve year old is unable to stay in their chair and off the floor for a meal, don't take them to nice places. Regardless, we enjoyed our visit and then headed back to my apartment for some spiked eggnog and wine. I even put up some lights. That was about it. We had stuff to do so we all said Happy Holidays, er.. whatever and ran off in different directions.
Sunday evening I went to a theater party with A. We watched an odd burlesque show and then danced for a few hours. It was interesting. Fun.. and interesting. I felt like I was in my grandmother's basement the whole time. Drinking Pilsner and watching a burlesque show in your grandmothers basement is the closest you can get to "that cozy holiday feeling". Tonight is the night for Ice Skating. I absolutely love Ice Skating so I've been looking forward to this. Hope I don't break anything!

On my way out

Just wanted to throw out a few quick things before I head to the hometown for the weekend.

Number 1) Good news! France is just as slow as we are! View Proof Here

Number 2) Bad news. Wickipedia is too liberal for the crazies so they made their own. Try getting your information at Convservapedia. Complete with Bible verse on the home page. I was told to try looking up homosexuality.... scary.

Number 3) Had another voice lesson last night and I already feel everything I used to know coming back. It wasn't completely gone, just hiding from me. Thank Jebus!!

Number 4) I would really like some brunch soon, anyone? Sure, Sunday brunch might conflict a bit with the 11am airing of new Rock of Love episodes but I can probably wait until the eve to view it. Maybe not.

What a weekend!

Saturday was spent picnicking and playing catch in some huge park in Brooklyn. I managed to burn the crap out of just one arm. I'm going to spend the rest of the summer trying to get the other side to catch up. The park outing did not last long so I made the long journey back to the UES before turning around and traveling back to Brooklyn.

Jason, Natalie, and William met me in times square. To our great surprise we were all dressed up. We had a dirt cheap drink in some scary hole in Brooklyn while Natalie ate a bird. Then we set off to watch Dar's show.
*Note on the show. Dar has this amazing ability to make you laugh at the dark things without ever breaking the moment. Brilliant.

Then, of course, we all went drinking. Not until after our rain bath that is. "We all" includes the original four plus Dar, Gwen , and Dar's Sax playing brother. Great people, good fun!

Sunday was a day of brunching and roof tanning. In honor of our mothers of course. I started the day with brunch and mimosas only to close it out with bar food and pitchers. Mom would be proud. I love the weekends.

I'm all over the place!

Mentally that is. I would love to be able to write in this here blog but every time I start I get distracted and eventually delete everything I had written. I'm just going to throw out a whole bunch of info at once and maybe get some things out of my head.

Tuesday evening some of my friends had gigs on different sides of the island. Even though my strongest desire that day was to crawl into my bed and sleep in a comatose state for the next few weeks, I still went because I'm a rockstar like that.

Gig one was at the Underground Lounge on the UWS. Christopher Hartman does his singer songwriter thing and serenades his audience with mostly love related songs. He just started recording so kudos to him!

Gig two was on the LES at the Bowery Poetry Club. The Dan Loomis Quartet had a CD release show. I have been listening to the CD to get me through the work day and it's really very good. I'm not surprised though. I've always loved seeing/hearing them play. I'd do the links to each of the guys but eh, that's too much effort. Actually, they just had an audition at Jazz at Lincoln Center for some European travel thing. I'm sure you can imagine my jealousy. So, you should come support them with me at some point because they are talented and fantastic people.

I have to find an apartment. I think someone is moving into my room June 1st and I would really like to get that sorted out before it's the last minute and I'm having a heart attack. Also my birthday is June 2nd and there is no way in hell I am moving out of my six floor walk up the day before my birthday extravaganza. Yeah, that's right, I already started thinking about my birthday plans.

I am really very excited about Eyster brunch this Sunday. Drinks and merriment!

Atlantic City Inspires. Who Knew?

I just got back from a quick trip to Atlantic City. It was fantastic and just what I needed right about now. The drive alone was pretty entertaining. It was just me, my friend BVA and his father. The other person bailed on us. Turns out BVA's dad is pretty cool so we had a good time listening to music and shootin the shit. They are both musicians and so we listened to jazz the entire time we were in the car. BVA recently recorded a new CD so we had the pleasure of a preview before the release. As you can tell, I was in heaven. Then we got to the casino. We stayed at Showboat which contains the House of Blues. Our room was comped because dad (Don) really knows how to work the gambling system in AC. We didn't pay for rooms, most drinks, food, and other random things. At one point they decided that we should hit the craps table. Well, I don't know how to play so Don says he will buy me in and they will teach me as we go. Great, I love learning this stuff. Crap, Craps is a fast moving game! Following their lead I finally caught on and we all made a decent amount of money. Thanks guys! Today we spent part of our winnings outlet mall shopping. I don't think I have ever in my life gone shopping with two straight men before. Wahoo new shoes! I also discovered Don's interest in shock humor which was great fun. In the end it was a pretty amazing time. I heart Atlantic City. Tomorrow I'm getting myself to the library for sheet music. If all goes well I'll also get a tattoo in the evening. Tomorrow will be good but brunch on Sunday will be amazing. I can hardly contain my excitment!
