Coincidentally, the 6th album belongs to Jaimie and 6th folder is a collection of her pictures at 6mths old. This is just a random shot taken at our old house in the bedroom, apparently. Jaimie has kicked off her pacifier since July last year but she is still in love with her bean pillow. AAWWWwwww... my little girl at 6mths old....

瘾君子: My Top 5 Addictions

I suspect this is my wife's way of reminding me just how long it has been since my last post on the blog, and her giving me that little nudge to get me off my lazy butt.

No particular reason why I havn't been contributing at all lately. Writers' block, uneventful days, overwhelming exhaustion, pure laziness, all of the above. You know how it is with things, once you get into a doing something consistently and regularly enough, the force of habit kicks in and it becomes routinised. Exactly the same goes for NOT doing something. That was what happened to me when I laid off blogging for a while.

So, anyway...back to the Tag. Oh, it has indeed been a considerable while since the last Tag appeared on this blog (not counting Angie's recent one lah). I'm glad it is an easy (short) one. One that I can work on, now that I'm curiously awake at this odd hour, with my laptop on my well, lap and my two babies soundly sleeping on the bed next to me. Well, here it goes.

"英雄帖" Tag

Just as the tag spirit was about to croak in this blog, it miraculously got resuscitated. Not unlike how Claire Bennet regenerated her cut opened body in the morgue shortly after the tree branch was extracted from the the back of her head.

Well, this tag requires the taggee to choose which special ability from the characters in the TV series "Heroes" he'd wish to possess most.



First thought that came to mind was that it must be a hoot to have the power of invisibility (Claude Rains). With this ability, I'd be able to go anywhere I want to go and take anything I need. Ok, well...not anything, cos I wouldn't be able to carry off say a brand new regridgerator from Courts for my new home. But you know, I can live life easy by not having to work at all and simply take (ok, steal) whatever I need from the world. Not to mention the voyeuristic possibilities that'd come with being the invisible man. Morality issues aside, this is one COOL power to possess.

As I dwell upon the question posed by this tag a little further, it dawned upon me that Rains the invisible man must be a terribly lonely person. Even if one is to disregard the fact that he was constantly on the run from his ex-employer, the way he uses his power and how he renounces any and every forms of morality and social values mean that it must be extremely difficult, or impossible, to live with a person like Rains. A social outcase, an ostracised person, a lone island. I wouldn't want that for myself.

I then thought that it'd be great if I can't be hurt, should I have the powers of regneration of Claire Bennet. But I quickly realised that that which would hurt me the most is not going to be physical damage inflicted onto my body. No. It'd be harm that comes the way of my loved ones - my 2 girls, my parents, my friends. Neither becoming invisible nor re-growing my internal organs would be of any help. I'd still be crushed.

So, I have decided that the Heroes power that I wish to possess if given the choice is

the power of HEALING (Mr Linderman)

This particular power has practical, everyday kinda usage, especially if you have a kid who has tendencies to fall of beds. Also, you won't have to worry about what Means Testing...

Since I am currently watching "Heroes" Season 1, well, it's easy: given a choice, which special power would you like to possess?

I was in MSN with Idy when she popped me this question. I told her I would love to be able to read people's mind. This ability will help me a lot in dealing with office politics and human relations. However, being able to read peoples' mind feels like "taking the referee out of the soccer field and replace with 360 deg camera that leaves no room for doubt". hmmmm....

Then as I watched more of Heroes, I am impressed with the mega-memory ability which the waitress, Charlie had. She is so cool!! Being able to speak a foreign language fluently within a few days of learning is like a dream come true to me!!

Tag: An Idol You Were Really Crazy About When You Were In Your Teens

The title is self explainatory, so i guess we need not do the tag rules here.

I admire lots of artists when I was in my teens but I was those "sensible" types who would not spend lots of money to buy their photos or go to their concerts etc... because i was a poor student! I didnt even buy magazines. I had a JC classmate who bought almost all the entertainment magazines he could find in the newspaper stand. I was one of his closer friends so he would tear out the pages which contains the news/ photos of the artists I like and give them to me. So thankful I had such a friend!!! hahaha~~~

In my JC days, I was totally crazy about Hacken Lee.李克勤. I adored him after I watched a Cantonese Drama series《淘气双子星》shown in RTM2, i think? At one point in time I even wanted to become an entertainment news journalist so that I might get a chance to meet him in person! However the editor of an entertainment magazine whom I spoke to asked me to "forget it" because I had "good paper qualifications". Errr....? Well....

Hmm....first of all, I've gotta translate this Tag post from it's original Chinese explanation into one that contains plain English instructions, else before this can go anywhere (aha!), we'd be flooded with questions on what is 任意门 etc.

I'd like to walk through the dokodemo door and come onboard the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar. There, I'd be able to meet the great Morpheus and offer myself to become part of his crew so I'd get the opportunity to fight alongside The One. Of course, the real attraction is the opportunity to get plugged in, and get loads of cool stuff uploaded directly into my brain via my skull socket. There're just too many things that I'd then be able to learn that I'd otherwise never master in the Real World. And all I have to do is to ask Tank to upload me the (fill in the blank) programme.

Besides the mandatory Jump training programme, I want to learn to paint like Michelangelo, sing like Jacky Cheung, fight (and yell) like Bruce Lee and cook like Chef Gusteau. If I prove to have 'talent' I might even learn a lesson or two from Neo on dodging (or even stopping!) bullets. I wouldn't mind meeting the Woman in the Red Dress either. I'd pass on the Tasty Wheat, though.

The "Turn Back the Clock" Tag

Thank you MamaTang for being my regular supplier of tags. I have been receiving a healthy dosage from her recently.

In this latest one, the taggee is supposed to write about the age that he/she wishes to get back to. I have always openly confessed that the year I spent in UK doing my MSc(WES) course has been a real highlight in my life. In the case of this tag, however, the UK year would have to settle for second place.

Top position brings me back to the year 1992, when I matriculated into NUS. That was the year I fell head over heels in love. I was 20 years-old. She was 18. We chatted over the campus computer network. Ok lah...a bit of qualification here - the falling "head over heels in love" bit didn't really take place until 1993 lah. Anyways, the reason why this holds top spot for me is because unlike many of my peers, the number of romances that yours truly has ever had stands at a staggering grand total of....

"One Word/Sentence" Tag

Alrighty.

Although this is my second Tag, it is officially the first one that I am responding to personally. The earlier one I kinda outsourced to Angie.

This tag is directed from MamaTang, over at TangSanctuary, whose blog is one that always makes me wonder "what nice makan would be featured this time?" whenever I drop by. :-)

Trivia #1: I was asthmatic during childhood. The attacks were usually triggered by contact with animal (e.g. cat) fur, or consuming cold stuff. Thankfully I outgrew the condition when I reached teenhood. I ceremoniously ate my first bowl of ice-kachang (at Zion Road hawker centre) when I was in Sec One.

Trivia #2: I am a fan of comics. All sorts of comics from those superhero types (e.g. X-men) to the "for mature readers" graphic novels (e.g. Sandman) to Hong Kong kungfu titles (e.g. 风云) to Jap anime comics (e.g. Slam Dunk aka 灌篮高手).

Trivia #3: As a kid I used to be extremely mild-mannered. That changed rather drastically after I entered the working world/ gotten married (I don't know which of this should I attribute blame to). My fuse got quite short and I'd quite often jump at opportunities to enter into arguments. Some of these incidents turned pretty ugly. Erm...not pretty. Ugly. I'm like Bruce Banner, with the Hulk caged inside of me, awaiting the next catalyst that'd trigger the transformation. I think I've gotten less edgy with the arrival of Jaimie.

Trivia #4: I am blessed (or cursed, depending on how you look at such things) in that I've never had to endure a romantic breakup (aka 失恋). I married my first girlfriend (my uni-days sweetheart) after 5 years of courtship.

Trivia #5: Because dx/dt = 0 and dy/dt > 0 (where x = diameter of wedding band; y = diameter of ring finger; t = time), my ring finger has recently outgrown its companion for the past 9 years. It wouldn't remain ringless for long though. We'd be getting our new set of 10th Anniversary wedding bands next year.

Trivia #6: I have to say that the most memorable year of my life thus far would have to be Aug 2002- Jul 2003, when I pursued my Masters Degree at Cranfield University, UK. Angie was there to accompany me for 6 months. We had really fantastic time experiencing the seasons. We made such great friends during that time. And we played Kinigu! (and I puked my guts out)

Trivia #7: I got hooked on Mayday (五月天) when they taught the world what it means to be «温柔». The section headings of this blog are all named after Mayday's songs.

Trivia #8: For my entire life I have been surrounded by "those who can". Both my parents are retired teachers. My late grandparents (maternal) have been teachers in their times. My 阿姨 and 姨丈 are still teaching. As an undergrad in the university, I fell in love. When we talked about our aspirations, she told me she wanted to teach. I knew then that this was the girl I was going to marry.

我们被 Mama Tang 带（tagged）入这个话题。老公迟迟没有动笔。当被 Idy 问为什么这么久还没有写的时候，老公就马上把这种“小事”丢给我处理，叫我代劳。

好吧！反正我写的文章也蛮精彩的嘛。嘻嘻！

我们两公婆都超爱吃卤面。只要听说哪里有好吃的卤面，我们就会不远千里地去品尝。最后，只有一摊卤面是我们固定光顾的，那就是中峇鲁小贩中心178号摊位的鲨鱼肉卤面！

一碗三块钱新币的卤面，卤汁浓稠又带着八角香，配上4、5大块炸得黄灿灿、香喷喷的鲨鱼肉，已经是物超所值了！吃卤面，当然少不了黑醋、蒜泥、小辣椒还有辣椒泥。蒜头的味道混合着卤汁的芳香配合着辣椒的刺激，送进口中的每一口卤面，都在你的口里热情地爆发着自己的香味，好象是在争妍斗丽的妃子，竭尽所能地讨舌头上味蕾的欢心。

最后，来一杯鸳鸯（豆花水加凉粉）为这碗卤面写上一个完美的句号……我们两人立刻觉得此生无憾了。
