From Action #1-- Butch and the Gang!

Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1 is a famous cover.

Not quite as famous is Whiz Comics #2, the debut of the superhero Captain Marvel.

I recently realized that maybe the two covers go together!

The idea cracked me up. I had to draw it!

Wonder Woman Glares at Power Girl!

I'm trying something a bit different—I’ve created original art of Wonder Woman and Power Girl to sell on eBay this week. It’s a riff on a famous Sophia Loren/Jayne Mansfield photo. The original art is black ink on 12x12 Bristol board. Whoever wins the art will also receive a 12x12 signed, color print.

Oh! And this is the photo I parodied--

Hurry! The auction ends on Sunday, July 21!

Super Antics #19

In the modern telling of Batman's origin, I've never thought a bat could fly through a pane of glass under its own power. Here's my unofficial contribution to the story.

Kryptonians Age Too

Drawn just for fun! (You know, fun. Like aging.) Superman forgets where he's going, to outer-space.

Super Antics #18

I usually draw these in a "golden age" style, but this time I went mostly with my own natural style!

Aquaman's Dirty Secret

I don't know why I draw this stuff.

Wonder Woman Art for Charity

I posted a color version of this art previously, but the art is now up for bidding! I drew this for the National Cartoonists Society Art Auction. Proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

This is a bit of a rarity for me. I switched to 100% digital art several years ago, but this is on actual bristol board with actual India ink! (I had to search my basement to find art supplies, and drew on my kitchen table.) 😊

EDIT: The auction is over. Thanks for your generosity! $1800!

Super Antics #17

That was fun. I've never drawn Captain Marvel Shazam before.

Honestly, I don't know how Superman does it!

Wonder Woman doing the Marilyn Monroe thing!

I've drawn a piece of original art (black ink on bristol board) for a charity auction benefiting St. Jude's Children Hospital. I'll post more info as it becomes available for purchase in a month or so. But, for now, here's a version I've colored for fun!

I also did a limited color version to mimic 50's humor magazines.

Sometimes, there are folks on the internet who like to crop my name off my art. So, I'm going to simply state a description of this, in case anyone's looking. Wonder Woman skirt blown up by landmine. (Although, did you know, she actually wore a culotte in her first adventures?!)

Super Antics #16

Ha! I'm digging deep into nerdville on this one.

There was a period from the late 50's into the early 60's where crazy things happen to DC heroes. I thought it would be funny if some of them happened at the same time! Here's the covers for reference--

And, yes, Batman did wear a rainbow batsuit in the story!

And now, for no real reason--

Super Antics #14

I haven't taken the time to do something purely for fun. So I did!

Should I add tags to my post, so that if people are hunting for things, they can find them? Hourman and Ourman. Atom and At 'Em. There.

Golden Age Showdown #1

This idea occurred to me, so I drew it to see how I felt about it. I might do more. Maybe. I did the easiest one first. :)

Super Antics #13

This occurred to me, so I had to draw it!

Man, I need to post more. Do people still look at Blogger content?

New "Super Antics"...

...in MAD magazine #1! If you didn't already know, MAD has been somewhat revamped. I've got a few pages in it! I can't shared them all here, but I can give you the first few panels--

I'm pretty excited about this. I grew up in the boonies of Arkansas, and the only "culture" I saw was that in comic books, Sunday comic strips, and MAD. I honestly think elements from each of these influences show up in everything I do. When I was bored as a young kid, I would fold paper in half, staple it, and draw my own "Mad magazines". I think I might be able to find them. If so, I'll probably post a few here.

Until then, go buy a MAD #1. ON SALE NOW!

Urinals of the Justice League

I had a little free time to draw over the holidays. Sorry.

Marvel Hair Jokes!

It's Inktober!

Or so I'm told. That's when you ink something (everyday?) in the month of October. Well, I didn't do that. However, I did recently come across a page I had penciled in the late 90's. (?) I then thought it would be fun for Fifty-Something Kerry to ink Thirty-Something Kerry. So I did it! Here's the result--

I didn't spend much time on the color. It's Inktober, not Colortober.

Oh! Here's the pencils. I just had a bad xerox copy.

Super Antics #12

I like Aquaman, but I suspect this has happened at least once---

As always, if you curious to check my comics in long form, head over to Dirtnap Tales. This week, I hit page 100!

Super Antics #11

As I drew this, I started wondering, "Who was the first person to hide behind their own cape? "Dracula? The Shadow? Bull fighters? Is it a cliche from ancient times? Anybody out there know anything about it?

As always, if you'd like to see more of my work, you can check out my web comic. It's starting to get a little crazy--!

Super Antics #10

I found this scribbled out. I had forgotten about it. So, I took a break from my web comic and drew it! Sorry. (Not for taking a break, but for creating this.)
