Project Pinterest

Ok you guys...
this is the third week in a row that I am running behind with getting Project Pinterest up on the blog.

I have sooooo many wonderful projects to do, but it's just not a good time to do them.
So this week...and likely the next two...I'll have the linky up but no project from me.
{you can also link up with Sarah and you'll show up here too!}

Now let's see what y'all have been creating!!!

Project Pinterest - Slide Reflection Photo

My project will be up later today, but go ahead and show us what you've finished!!
And be sure to visit my lovely co-host Sarah!

OK! Thanks for being patient with me.
It's been a busy and productive day.

Here's an image I found on Pinterest via Flickr.

I love those lines, the reflection, the dof...

And here's my version from a session back in October:

The slide I had available to me was nowhere near as angled as in the inspiration photo, but the lighting on it was wonderful.

Project Pinterest - Frame Portrait

Sorry I'm a bit late this morning...we've had a few things to do lately.
;)

Here is my inspiration photo:
I have no idea who the original photographer is, but here's the pinned link.

How awesome is that frame in the sand?!
Seriously cool.

Project Pinterest: Homemade Croutons

Oh, y'all...
Have you ever had homemade croutons before???
I hadn't until I came across this recipe via this pin.

And I. Am. Hooked!
Not long ago I went on a pretty big bread making spree in an attempt to use up all my yeast packets, so I have many many loaves in the freezer. I used some of my homemade garlic bread to make these and they were delicious!
I probably ate half of them straight off the baking sheet as they were cooling.

{yeah...that's a salad. the lettuce is under there somewhere.}

If you need a quick, easy and absolutely delicious addition to your Thanksgiving meal...this one is it!

Project Pinterest - DIY Ruffle Scarf

I am quickly becoming a huge fan of ruffles.
I found the following DIY video tutorial via this pin and this site.
{The directions for this particular scarf type are at about the 3 minute mark.}

...and here's mine...
{I wore it to church and received zero compliments on it...but I'm sure lots of people were thinking about how awesome it is.}

My costs were as follows...
XL t-shirt from thrift store - $2.00

Project Pinterest: DIY Cake Stand

Oh. My.
Do I ever love cake stands!
...the designs...the colors...the shapes...
But the price of them...not so much.

My budget for cake stands is about $5.00 per year.
Which means I can either afford one made of cardboard or make my own.

...I hate tough decisions...

We have a brand spakin' new Salvation Army store fairly close to us and, as it happens to be my all time favorite thrift store, I spent part of my free morning there.
It was gianormous! And wonderful!
And everything with a green tag was 50% off!!!
{eeek! Can you feel my excitement!?}

After not very long I found a candlestick and large platter. {costs are below}
When I got home I glued them together with Gorilla Epoxy.
{I have no idea where I originally saw the idea to glue a candlestick and plate together, but HERE is a pretty fab and super easy tutorial if you need one.}

cake stand - before

And then I hemmed and hawed over what color to paint it all.
{had the candlestick not been discolored I may have left it as it was}
White? No, too bland.
Blue? No, I just painted that Cheese Grater Earring Holder blue.
Mint Green? Aaahhhh yeah! We have a winner!
{except I couldn't find mint green, so I settled for green apple}

cake-stand---after

I do want to point out that this paint is not food safe!
{if you know of a spray paint that IS food safe, please leave the brand name in the comments...'cause I haven't been able to find one.}
So my plan is to either use this stand for prepackaged foods {such as in the picture}, a display for birthday goodie bags, or if I'm using it with homemade treats I'll put a piece of parchment down...which also means I won't have to wash it....because I'm pretty sure it's not water resistant, either!

My costs were as follows...
Candlestick - $1.75
Large Platter - $1.00
Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Green Apple - Smooth Satin Finish - $3.90 {I had a 40% off coupon}

Grand Total: $6.65
{So, ok...I exceeded my $5 budget. But I do have at least half the can of spray paint left}

Project Pinterest: Cheese Grater Earring Holder

Project Pinterest

Hello and welcome to the first installment of Project Pinterest,
hosted by myself along with the super awesome and funny Sarah of It's on the Tip of My Tongue!

We are addicted to Pinterest.
And we know we're not alone!!

But what happens to so many of us?
We get stuck in a rut of pinning thousands of awesome things, and then we never get around to making or recreating them.

That's what Project Pinterest is all about; motivating you to do those crafts, poses, recipes, whatever...and then share it with the world.

For my first project I upcycled an old cheese grater into an earring holder.
It's perfect, really.
And I half suspect this gadget's true purpose was to display funky jewelry.

{This is the original one I saw on Pinterest}

My costs were as follows...
Cheese Grater - $0  {I actually had an old one on hand!}
Krylon Spray Paint in glossy Blue Ocean Breeze - $6  {approximately}

Grand Total: $6.00!

What did you make recently?!

Be a Digital Pack Rat - Day 19

Today's lesson is a very simple one:
Save all your images.
ALL images.
Even the really bad ones.

I can not tell you how many times I have gone back through year-old files and found usable images that at the time I thought were only worthy of the trash can.

As my skills progress, I find I'm better able to edit and manipulate images.
Sometimes I can save the entire image, other times I use a portion of it or as an overlay, and in many cases those old images serve as great creative-springboards!

ETA: A lot of you have mentioned that you just don't have the space to save all those image files. And I totally get that! My computer's hard drive was at max capacity about a year ago. So I took the plunge and bought the Western Digital WD Elements 1 TB External Hard Drive. That's a terabyte! 1,024 gigabytes. It cost me $70 and I am so glad I got it! Now I can shoot in RAW + jpg mode and not worry about the file sizes.
