Clean off your desk = 7 unique cards

If you're looking for the OWH/Stamper's Best Blog Skip, please see the last post.  Thanks!

I set out to clean off my desk tonight.  The scraps on my desk were either going to be tossed (but they're too cute- gasp!), filed, or turned into cards.  Since I loathe filing and hate to waste good papers, I kept making cards from the scraps that I came across.  Enter 7 cards made this evening (and a desk that's still far from clear).

Cards with Aimee and Sketch #132

One of my best friends visited me yesterday and we spent just a little time making cards.  Today, I took the scraps from what we made and whipped up several more cards.  These patterned papers are from DCWV's 2011 Fall/Halloween stack.  Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of Aimee's card.  She'd never used Copics, but her coloring was fab.  She is, after all, an art teacher!
Made with Aimee.  She picked the stamp by Unity for us to use.
Changing the papers of the card above.
Lots of scraps on this card.  Stamps by Hampton Arts.

OWH Sketch #132.  Stamps are Inkadinkado scrapbooking captions.  At first, the purple paper was plain but the card looked unadorned, so I masked off the other papers and stamped the vines.  This is why you should glue last!

First time I inked up this kitty from Unity.  More scraps!
It's so nice to have friends who enjoy the same hobbies as I do.  Do you have friends who like to craft with you or are you a solo crafter?  I find I get more done alone, but I have lots more fun with my friends!

FWF Friday the 13th

Howdy!  Happy Friday the 13th.  I hope you're having a lucky day!

Friday means Friends with Flair, so here's a little Unity to share!  I've been having fun recently with these scrappy quilt backgrounds.  They're easy and a fun way to use some patterns that might be hard to use on a card in larger pieces.
Stamps: Unity Stamp Company (Eco Chic flower and a freebie sentiment)
Papers: DCWV Fall and Halloween Stack 2011, cardstock from stash
Embellishments: MM eyelets
Tools: Crimper, eyelet setter
Coloring: Copics
Other: Curvy rectangles are cut with a Cricut and were received in a swap.  Thanks, Laura!

Anniversary Love

A simple card to share today.  I used scraps of paper from Graphic 45, MME, and one bit from DCWV to fashion the background.  I tied a ribbon around, added some hearts and a little Glossy Accents to the tiny heart, and it was all set!  I think it would be a great anniversary card for the Midweek Throwdown, so I'll add an anniversary sentiment to the inside. I think it's masculine; what do you think?

OWH Sketch #69

I wrangled some scraps into this card, based off OWH Sketch #69.  The main paper is DCWV and the cardstock is from my stash.  The tree embellishment is from Walmart about two years ago.  The ribbon is by JoAnn.

I won't send this card in to OWH for a while since it is a fall theme.  The elements just came together, so I went for it, even if it's off-season.

Chick Challenge #29

Back with another Chick Challenges with Ippity sketch challenge, #29.  This card uses some scraps of DCVW Crafty Stack paper and a sentiment from Unity's You & Me set.  I'll send this to Operation Write Home so a military hero can write a message to a loved one.  This sentiment would make the card great for congratulations, love, or thanks depending on the note inside.  Thanks for visiting.

Kites and Clouds

I was happy to be able to share a tutorial today on OWH Stars and Stamps for making sponged clouds and waves.  One great way to use the clouds is to make a scrap kite from Sandy's tutorial and use the clouds as the background.  Be sure to watch the vlog posted there, too, if somehow you missed it when originally posted.  It's a hoot!

Here's my first scrap kite and sponged cloud background.  I think there might be a few more of these in my future.

I just got this Unity Stamp Company stamp called "love is everything" and I was excited to ink it up today.  I used a scrap of polka dotted paper by KI memories, a scrap of green cardstock, a new sheet of blue cardstock, several random brads from Making Memories and Colorbok, and white cardstock.

That's how we roll!

I was playing around with the polka dot paper scraps I had and decided to use my new "wheely fun" stamp from Unity.  I paired it with a sentiment from "crappy day" instead of "hope your birthday is wheely fun" which came with the image.

I sponged clouds to give some extra dimension and interest to the focal point.  The brad is an epoxy brad from Making Memories- I really love those brads.

Thanks, as always, for visiting!

scrappy day

Barb posted a tutorial by Thermoweb on how to use scraps efficiently. I grabbed a handful of green scraps and threw together some strips of the papers.  These new striped papers were the basis of all the ideas in the tutorial.

I used some of the striped pages to make waves like you see in the top card.  I wish I had the CM wave cutter- it would have looked even better.  I lined the wave with dots, added paper flowers by MM, and adhered a sentiment flag to finish off the top card.

For this card, I used a Bargello technique.   Thinner strips would have looked better.  I had trouble with certain strips not having enough adhesive.  Make sure you use more than you see in the picture in the tutorial, or your pieces will fall off when you cut your new paper apart.

Cards shipped to OWH in 2012: none thus far, but my box is filling up nicely!
