Kara Tointon beams as she saunters through Birmingham... after her cheeky nude scene in The Halcyon drew rave reviews

No wonder she's smiling! Kara Tointon beams as she saunters through Birmingham... after her cheeky nude scene in The Halcyon drew rave reviews

Kara Tointon has good reason to smile after her bum-baring performance in ITV's new hit drama The Halcyon garnered widespread praise.
And the actress, 33, couldn't have looked happier as she took a break between performances of her theatre show Gaslight at Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre on Tuesday.
The former EastEnders star produced a beaming grin as she sauntered in a smart black trench coat over a polo neck knit.

She wore a skinny pair of dark jeans and black boots, while she held her brunette tresses back with a black and white headband.
The pretty actress wore minimal makeup as she dragged her luggage behind her and was joined by her co-star Rupert Young.
Her Strictly triumph in 2010 no doubt gave her a good grounding in how to play the role of a showgirl.

But Kara journeyed into uncharted territory when she bared all for her cheeky nude scene.
The star admitted that the derrière that appeared on screen was all her, telling The Sun: 'I don’t know if I should admit it but it was me — unless they re-filmed it and I don’t know about it.
'I was nervous, as everyone else was fully clothed, but the wardrobe department made sure I was comfortable.'

She won rave reviews for her scantily clad portrayal of showgirl Betsey in the debut episode of the ITV period drama.
Christopher Stevens for The Daily Mail reviewed the show, calling it: 'The ITV drama is Forties intrigue and romance – a love story in the tradition of Casablanca, a wartime adventure in the style of Dame Barbara Cartland.

Kara sent temperatures soaring as she stripped down to enjoy a bath in her boss' swanky bathroom on the debut episode.
Her character is not too far removed, in fact, from the actress’s best known role until now – as the ‘tart with a heart’, barmaid Dawn Swann in EastEnders.
During her four years on the show, Dawn was abducted while pregnant with her married lover's baby, survived a gas explosion and had her gangster fiancé murdered on their wedding day.
And it seems like the successful soap series is still on Kara's mind as she revealed on Lorraine in December that she hasn't ruled out a return and would 'never say never' to going back to the Square.
'I never got killed off!' she exclaimed. 'I’d never say never to anything. I’m lucky I’ve got to the point where I can do a bit of theatre and film and different things.'

Kara was most recently seen leaving the BBC Breakfast studios in Manchester on Tuesday morning, covered up to ensure her warmth as she battled the elements.
The actress looked utterly windswept as she showed off her slim frame in a pair of skinny jeans and jumper while rolling along her suitcase.
Opting for a chic monochrome ensemble, the Essex native showed off her lean legs in the ankle-grazing jeans.
She skimmed her enviable frame with a thin-knit jumper and added a long black coat for extra warmth as she strutted along in heeled ankle boots.
Her chocolate brunette tresses blew furiously in the wind as she kept her head down while making her way indoors.

Kara Tointon is sensational in silver in a low-cut gown with a sheer skirt at the BAFTA TV Awards

Kara Tointon is sensational in silver as she flaunts her slender frame in a VERY low-cut gown with a sheer skirt at the BAFTA TV Awards

She's never one to let the side down when it comes to her red carpet fashion.
And Kara Tointon looked the definition of sensational as she stepped out at the British Academy Television Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday evening.
The former Eastenders actress, 32, dazzled in a seriously sexy, plunging Amanda Wakeley gown that also boasted a real elegant vibe.

The dove grey and almost silvery gown was cut almost perilously low down on her front, nearly to her navel, and allowed her to flaunt her braless chest and almost every inch of her decolletage.
The strappy number - cut flatteringly to showcase her lithe, toned arms - also included dainty bands going down over her breasts to add a touch of extra sex appeal and modernity.
Across the fabric of Kara's eye-catching piece were tiny lines printed in an almost geometric pattern across the bust, falling down in long, elegant lines down the flowing skirt.
A thick shiny silver band around her middle pulled it all together and cinched in at her whittled waistline, and heavy skirt fell to the floor in a pool at her feet.
Sheer-ly not! The former Eastenders actress, 32, dazzled in a seriously sexy, plunging Amanda Wakeley gown that also boasted a real elegant vibe... and a transparent skirt

Whoops! She laughed off her could-be wardrobe malfunction as she sashayed down the red carpet

However, the former Strictly Come Dancing star wasn't quite as covered-up as she'd hoped for: her skirt was so transparent, as the sunlight shone through it revealed her slim legs underneath.
Still, she pulled herself together and continued to flash her winning smile - painted in a ravishing deep red shade - for the cameras.
The brunette stunner wore her hair coiffed into a beautiful up-do with her locks twisted at the back, an ideal style to go along with her bare-shouldered aesthetic.
The multi-talented star was at the awards ceremony as her incredible TV effort, The Sound Of Music LIVE! was nominated in the Live Event category: however, it lost out to Big Blue Live.

Meanwhile, once she stepped into the iconic Thames-based venue, it was all about the stars of the British TV world as they were put forth for a prestigious BAFTA gong.
BAFTA nominees Idris Elba and Mark Rylance were among the actors hoping to take home a mask statuette at the British Academy Television Awards.
The award-winning stars will go head-to-head in the leading actor category for their work in Luther and Wolf Hall respectively.
They have already been nominated for Golden Globe and SAG Awards for their performances in the dramas, with Elba triumphing at the SAGs.

The BBC's historical drama Wolf Hall, an adaptation of Hilary Mantel's hit novel, leads this year's nominations with a total of four nods.
Peter Kay's Car Share and This Is England '90 picked up three nominations each.
The Great British Bake Off, which sees amateur bakers face off in a series of challenges, received its fifth consecutive nomination. It is nominated in the features category, which it won in 2012 and 2013.
Singer Adele will be competing for her first BAFTA for best entertainment programme for her TV special Adele At The BBC.

The programme, which saw her in conversation with Graham Norton about her career and comeback, is nominated alongside Britain's Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and the TFI Friday anniversary special.
Sir Lenny Henry will be honoured at the ceremony when he is presented with a special award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to television.
The British stand-up comedian, actor and writer, who is best known for his work on Comic Relief and as a presenter of TV programmes including The Magicians, The Lenny Henry Show and Three Of A Kind will take home the Alan Clarke Award.
Sir Lenny has previously received two Bafta nominations for The Lenny Henry Show and has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards in 2003.

Kara Tointon takes to the stage in a one off live production of the Sound of Music

A very starry Sound of Music! Kara Tointon takes to the stage in a one off live production of the beloved musical...and she is not the only famous faces

  • ITV will air a live performance of The Sound of Music on Sunday
  • Starring Kara Tointon as Maria and Julian Ovenden as Captain Von Trapp
  • The Sound Of Music Live! is on tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV
It’s ITV’s most ambitious Christmas offering, a two-and-a-half-hour live production of The Sound Of Music starring Kara Tointon as Maria, Downton’s Julian Ovenden as Captain Von Trapp, Katherine Kelly as the Baroness and Pointless host Alexander Armstrong as Max Detweiler.
‘What could possibly go wrong?’ says ITV comedy boss Elaine Bedell. Certainly no expense has been spared.
The event comes from London’s Three Mills Studio where the lavish sets are said to have cost £750,000, and there’ll be a 42-piece orchestra plus the sound of cowbells and birdsong recorded in Austria. So, how are the cast shaping up?

‘I go through phases of terror and then I feel really good about it,’ says Kara Tointon. ‘Having taken part in Strictly I’ve had a taste of live TV but that was a sequence of dances lasting one minute and 20 seconds. This is 150 minutes!’
Julian Ovenden, who played Charles Blake in Downton, has a particular worry. ‘I had to learn the guitar for Edelweiss and the fact I’m singing while playing it after only a week’s tuition will make it even more scary.’
Just reading the script reduced Alexander Armstrong to tears. ‘It’s so full of wonderful moments but it’s also a true story and perfect for Christmas, a time when we embrace traditions. Maybe the live musical will become a tradition.’

But it is not just a re-tread of the film, says director Coky Giedroyc. ‘It’s based on the original Broadway version and is a bit darker.’
Coky’s job wasn’t made easier by the fact that her younger sister Mel (best known from Bake Off) plays Frau Schmidt the housekeeper. Did she behave badly? ‘Of course, but she’s been brilliant, too.’
Mel says, ‘I did suggest Sue Perkins as a possible scullery maid, a non-speaking role, of course. But strangely, they didn’t take up the offer. If she’d been in it, could you imagine? Live? It would be mayhem. It’s just as well she won’t be in the vicinity, much as I love her.’
The Sound Of Music Live! is on tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.

Heidi Range, Brooke Vincent, Kara Tointon and Jo Wood are transformed into fairytale princesses for breast cancer campaign

Pretty in pink: Brooke Vincent, Kara Tointon and Jo Wood are transformed into fairytale princesses for breast cancer campaign

  • Five celebrities have pledged support to Asda's Tickled Pink Campaign
  • Charlotte Jackson and Heidi Range also dressed up for magical shoot
  • Raised £44m for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off, five famous faces have pledged their support by being transformed into pretty pink princesses.
Kara Tointon, Brooke Vincent and Jo Wood were among those transported to a magical land and given a fairytale makeover for Asda's Tickled Pink Campaign. The movement raises awareness and vital funds for two charities: Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now.
For 2015, the iconic pink ribbon t-shirts have been redesigned in an on-trend grey marl and long-sleeved black version for the cooler months. They retail at £6 with £1 going straight to charity.

After donning a gorgeous gown for the girly shoot, former Strictly Come Dancing star Kara Tointon said: 'This is my second year supporting Asda’s Tickled Pink campaign and I am thrilled to be returning.'
The 32-year-old added: 'Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now are both incredibly inspiring charities that help those who are affected by breast cancer and their families.
'With the amazing pink merchandise and t-shirts at Asda, there are so many products for us all to show our support this October.'
Meanwhile, Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent, 23, said: 'I have absolutely loved taking part in this year’s fairytale themed Tickled Pink shoot and really hope it encouraged you all to get involved and raise money for both Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, who provide vital support to those diagnosed and fund innovative research.'

Asda founded Tickled Pink in 1996 with the aim of raising awareness and funding treatment of breast cancer in the UK.
The charity has also financed world-class research to help improve treatments, diagnosis and hopefully one day, a cure. It has raised £44 million to date.
Other stars taking part in the fantasy shoot included singer Heidi Range, 32, and Sky Sports New host Charlotte Jackson, 37.
'Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now make a huge difference to those affected by breast cancer every day, so I would really encourage people to take some time this Breast Cancer Awareness month to recognise and support the vital work they do,' said Heidi.

While Charlotte added: 'This is my first Tickled Pink campaign and I am so honoured to be taking part.
'Both Breast Cancer Now and Breast Cancer Care are incredibly important and make a huge difference to lives of women all over the UK.
'By buying a t-shirt, you’re not only helping to spread the message but also donating to what is an amazing cause. So come on girls, grab a tee like me and we can wear these with pride!”
Tickled Pink supporter and global fashion designer Julien Macdonald dressed two of the stars - Kara Tointon and Charlotte Jackson - in designs from his glamorous collection, with the embellished details bringing the fairytale shots into the modern day.
