Thanksgiving 2009
We celebrated Thanksgiving with Grandma, Grandpa, Beth, James, Ray, Stephen, McKinley, Sage and myself. It was nice to be with family. We had invited a few people, but they had other plans. We shared a proclamation from Abraham Lincoln about how grateful we should be to our Almighty God for the abundance of blessings that we enjoy. I also prepared Thanksgiving quotes that I found on line about gratitude. Each person around the table was asked to draw one out of the container and read it. We were inspired by the words of wisdom and Grandpa was able to educate us about various poets such as Shakespeare and Aesop. Then, under each plate on the table, I had place a laminated paper feather. Each feather had a word written on it. The word represented things we should be grateful for. Each person read their feather and then explained how they were grateful for that particular person, place or thing. Then, Stephen placed the feathers on the paper Turkey we made. It was fun to start some new traditions. We did stick with tradition too. Beth brought the pineapple to make the famous pineapple turkey. You can see Stephen holding it proudly in picture #2. Beth, Stephen and James had fun putting Dots on toothpicks and poking them in to make the turkey feathers. All our grocery stores were out of gum drops this year, so we had to get creative. Dad chose Dots and I think they looked even better than gum drops. We also sang: "For health and strength and daily food, we praise Thy name O Lord. " Yes, these are three things we should be very grateful for. I am grateful for life, love, the Lord and my wonderful family. We are abundantly blessed.
