Back to School

Well I am going to travel back in time for this post and post about the first day of school.  I am determined to get this thing up to date.
School started on Monday Aug 22.  The Thursday before we went to the school for Back to School night and met Matthew's teacher, Mrs. Hansen for the first time.  She seems like she is going to be great.  We also went to Steven's new classroom even though we already knew his teacher (she is the primary president in our ward!) and also on the first day of school the parents go with their kids and have an orientation.  So back to school night isn't really for kindergartners.  But since Mrs. Phillips was there we decided to go and talk to her and to see the classroom.
Monday, Matthew was so excited to start school that he woke up at 2 am!!!  I was like um no way, go back to bed.  I am glad that he loves school so much though.  We walked Matthew to his classroom because he was worried he would not be able to find it.

Sittting at his desk!!

After dropping Matthew off we went to Steven's classroom for the kindergarten orientation.  It lasts about an hour and then we all go home.  During the orientations we set up a time for Steven's kindergarten assessment.  I picked a 3:00 time because Matt gets out of school at 3:25 and I figured that was perfect.  After the assessment was over I could pick up Matthew and not have to make two trips.  During the orientation we learned about the different polices and such and the kids were able to participate in different stations.  One was writing their name, one was making a name necklace, one was coloring a car with their name on it and then as parents we were supposed to write the names of all the people that were allowed to pick their kids up.  One of the moms that lives in our neighborhood  asked if we would want to participate in a carpool.  So I drive the carpool once a week and every 4th Friday.  There was a 4th station but I forget what it was.  She also went through the morning routine with them so they knew what they were supposed to do when they got there in the mornings.  I think Steven loved it all and it made him very excited to start school.  His first official day wouldn't be until the following Monday.

Soccer Mom

So I've been cleaning like mad because the Elder's Quorum President is coming over tonight for a visit.  The house really isn't that messy but it's just the little bits of clutter here and there that pile up and picking up after the kids as they make their messes.  Anyway I am exhausted and in much need of a break so I decided that doing a quick blog post would give me a chance to rest a bit.
We signed both boys up for soccer this year and they both enjoyed it and had a great season.  We did get a little annoyed at Matthew's coach because he didn't really put much effort into it.  He once asked Karl to fill in for him one day because he wouldn't be there and he said "You don't really have to do anything".  That kind of rubbed us the wrong way.  Also the very last game of the season he didn't even bother to show up and didn't tell anyone he wasn't coming, he just didn't come.  So one of the dads had to fill in.  I mean I get that they aren't getting paid and that it is a volunteer thing but seriously.  Why volunteer when you clearly don't want to do it?  I mean we paid a lot of money for the kids' to have this experience and I'm sorry but I want them to have a coach that actually cares.  We felt bad because Steven had an awesome coach (well two actually since the main coach has to travel with work he had an assistant to fill in when he was gone and they were both great).  Steven's team (not that we were keeping score;)) was undefeated the whole season.  Matthew's team won once and tied once.  Anyway here are some pictures from the season.  We took a ton!!

Matthew's team was the Red Dragons

She always went straight home and into the bathtub on soccer nights.  She would get filthy at the playground.

Steven's team was the Green Sharks
