We flew out to Ohio on July 1. I was pretty nervous about the plane ride because I didn't know how the kids would behave. But they did really well. Steven slept the entire way and Summer slept most of the way. Thankfully the trip was uneventful. It was an evening flight so by the time we got our luggage, the rental car, installed car seats, and drove to Karl's parents house it was midnight. We were sure they would be in bed but Karl's dad had just gotten released from the hospital so they were up. The kids were excited to get there and to see their beds. Especially when they saw the "treasure boxes" filled with surprises that their grandparents had left there. They also got Indians shirts which they loved. We finally were able to get everyone down for the night. It was so late and the kids were so tired that they slept until 11:30 the next morning. That is unheard of for our kids!
The next day we went to Walgreens (we just couldn't stay away!) to get some things that they needed. Walgreens was doing a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society that day. You could get a hot dog, chips, and a drink for $1. Amazing price and all the money went to ACS. So we got some for lunch and took it to a park and had a picnic. After lunch the kids went for a short walk with their grandparents.
Afterward we went the local science center where they had all different kinds of animals and a fun little play area. The kids had a lot of fun! The fish and play area seemed to be the favorites.
They had this big log the kids could crawl through!
The log was so big in diameter that Steven could walk through it, standing straight up!
They had this little indoor pond with little turtles in it.
Summer loved this turtle that was swimming!
Steven in the play area
He could have stayed there all day!
Matthew put on a little puppet show for us!
Matthew isn't quite as big as the fish!
They had birds and other animals that need more space outside. Summer was so happy to be back in her stroller!

I am not sure what type of bird this is-maybe a hawk??

A better shot of the eagle
We thought these giant gardening tools were fun!
Later that day we went to an ice cream place called "Malleys". The ice cream is really good and it has the fun atmosphere of an old time ice cream parlor. The boys were especially excited about their clown shaped ice creams!
Steven completes his "Indians" ensemble with Karl's hat! Isn't he too cute!

Yum-ice cream shaped like a clown. It doesn't get any better than this!
Outside the shop.

After that we went to the boat club that Karl's dad belongs to so the kids could throw rocks into the lake-their first of many visits to Lake Erie! It was a pretty cool day and the water was pretty rough so we didn't stay very long!
A shot of the water. If you look closely you can see Cleveland in the background. The picture doesn't do it justice-it was beautiful!
You can see how choppy the water was. Steven threw that stick in!
Collecting rocks. We came home with a whole bunch of rocks the boys had collected.
Walking on the pier
Another shot of the city-can't tell if this one is any better than the previous one.
