A Fun Saturday!

This past Saturday, Dec 13th, we found ourselves pretty busy. Since it is the holiday season Karl had to work. I spent the morning making a dessert for our ward Christmas party that night. Then we were going to go to Karl's store because Santa Claus was coming that afternoon. However, we had our first big snowfall of the year that day and I am terrified of driving in the snow. So my parents came in their SUV to take us. It worked out well because my dad who has a really nice camera was able to take some pictures so we have those as well as the ones that the store gave us. Matthew was so excited to see Santa. As soon as he saw him he ran up and jumped in his lap. I was shocked. I was scared of Santa as his age. Not Matthew! It was pretty funny! Steven sat on his lap but wouldn't say one word to him. He did better than I thought he would-I didn't think he would sit on his lap at all. I wasn't even going to try Summer, I thought she would scream. She is starting to get stranger anxiety anyway and Santa Claus is a little strange looking. But we decided to try her and surprisingly she did okay. She kept staring at him like he was the strangest person she had ever seen but she didn't cry!
Here are the pictures my dad took!

Matthew and Santa Claus are old friends.

Steven looking on

He sat on his lap but no way would he talk to him!

I think this picture is priceless! She is looking at him like he is the strangest thing she has ever seen!

Her hair is all messed up from her snow hat!

After visiting Santa Claus we shopped and then went back to my parents house so my dad could give the boys haircuts. Then we went to my niece Annika's birthday party. Karl met us there after work. The kids all had fun playing with each other and eating yummy snacks.
Here are some pictures from the party!

After the birthday party we ran home and fed our kids a light dinner. We were having dinner at our ward party but it didn't start until 7 pm and we knew our kids would be hungry long before then. So we fed them enough to tide them over. The ward party was pretty fun but not very child friendly. They read the kids a story but that was all that they really had for them. My dessert turned out pretty well. It didn't win any prizes but I wasn't expecting to. The kids got to bed kind of late that night. It was a pretty late start especially since our ward has tons of young families when small kids. But we all survived. I took my camera but didn't take any pictures. There wasn't much to take pictures of. After we finally got the kids in bed our busy Saturday was over!

Little Inchworm with teeth!

Summer has been getting her first two teeth in for a couple of weeks now. They have been officially in for about a week. She is now sporting the cute toothy smile. She has the bottom front teeth, the two that usually come in first. She enjoys biting with her new chompers.
Summer's other big news is that she is scooting. She has been at a point where she would reach or lunge for things out of reach or move around so she would gradually move for several weeks. We kept thinking she would take off anytime. The last few days she has finally started to consciously move across. the floor. The first definite time was Monday morning and last night while we were at tithing settlement, the bishop had some toys and she saw one she was determined to get. She scooted right across the floor to get it. Let the baby proofing begin!
Here are some unsuccessful attempts to get pictures of her teeth!

Here are some pictures of her scooting across the floor to get the Wiggles guitar that she loves. (Just ignore the messy floor-It doesn't always look that bad!)

Deck the Halls!

This past Monday for Family Home Evening we decided to have a lesson on the true meaning of Christmas (Matthew desperately needed one!) and then for our activity we put up our Christmas tree. The kids had a blast! Matthew remembers it all from last year so he was pretty excited! We have all been sick. The kids are getting over pink eye (Karl woke up with it this morning) and Karl and I have had really bad coughs and colds. I haven't had much of a voice for the past 3 days. So that did put a damper on the occasion. The kids sure had fun and we got some really cute pictures!

Putting up the tree. Right now we just have a really cheap fake one but we have some wonderful memories of this tree. I will be sad (sort of) it it's time to get a new one.

Summer checking out the lights. I couldn't get her to look at the camera. "No way Mommy, those lights are too pretty!"

Handsome Karl testing out the lights.

Summer is still looking at the lights!

No one can pull off the Walgreens blue like my hubby!

Stringing up the lights!

Decorating the tree

Matthew put this bell garland on his head and said "Look, I have bell hair" What a goofball!

"Hmm...let's see what else is in this box!"

That bell garland is a tangled mess!

Matthew proudly displaying one of his ornaments!

These is what the tree looked like when the kids were done! They did a pretty good job. We haven't gotten all of the ornaments out yet. I will post a picture of the finished product when we get the rest of the out.

Summer still trying to look at the tree

Aren't they adorable!

Matthew made these little gifts for us in preschool. He was so proud of them. As soon as the tree was up they were under it!
