finally tmr's the last day of work. the 16 days seemed so short yet so.. forever.

2 other customers pissed me off during atrium sales a few days back. one asking me to unfold each design of the shirts available on display, and the other trying to outsmart me buy claiming that the 2 bermudas design that we're selling have different lengths when they are actually the same. i am just tired to repeat everything all over again. but owell it's over and i have ranted enough to so many people.

i realised that doing sales is not easy. attending to customers from all walks of life with a smile no matter how tired you are. speaking if lethargy, standing for 10+ hrs everyday for 10 days is simply no joke. at the end of everyday my legs felt like breaking. the only incident that could match this feat was the end of my marathon. good job! now i really respect those working in sales line (not that i don't respect them, but now with added admiration)

so, by 7pm tmr i will be sort of a free man again. looking forward to it. gonna have a good rest, and then need to prepare for my in camp next week.

Wednesday, June 03, 2009 @ work
work so far has been boring. no one wants to come to the carnival at all! so i have been standing there for 10+ hrs a day.. swatting flies.. looking at air, and hoping that someone will come and look at clothes.

and oh for goodness sake, when you messed up the clothes while trying to look for your size, can you pls have the courtesy to AT LEAST attempt to fold back the clothes.. you know like action action that kind, at least we will appreciate. better than just leave the clothes lying down there. for your information, we are retail assistants, not MAIDS.

oh oh and to present you with my 3 most irritating responses from the customers:

#3:

me: hi sir/mdm, would you like to take a look at our clothes?
customer: ok, look only, don't want to buy.

>.<

#2:

me: good afternoon/evening, wanna take a look at our clothes?
customer: WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT AFTERNOON/EVENING

and my most hated response:

i was talking to a bunch of male teenagers who were looking thru the clothes..
me: hello, how may i help you?
one customer: you can help me wank.

WHAT THE HELL!!

Sunday, May 17, 2009 @ what a week! (part 1)
this week has been fabulous! let's start from monday:

monday - senior's gathering at chevrons.

it was supposed to be a super fun event, but the weather killed it all. we couldnt play any of the games organised by the committee, in the end we had to settle for icebreaking games that were played within the house. luckily the weather turned better for the bbq. i have decided that i do not eat much during bbq.. i tend to spend most of my time cooking! haha. and the now that the house name has been decided.. it's time to think of cheers! gogo X MEN!

finally had a group photo after so long! but not everyone's here .. :(

tuesday - RE temp staff outing

the few of us (chiajin hannah amanda zinc and me) went to the 10 dollar club ktv to k for the night. thanks to seniors gathering i had no voice on tuesday already. nevertheless it was great to meet up once again. that ktv place is good for k-ing. cheap and freeflow of drinks! (: (and of course the free shark's fin hahahah) we sang until 12 and managed to reach home thanks to jude's car!

wednesday - IPPT

great chance to earn money when i needed it the most! i made full use of the opportunity and went all out with chiajin and his friends. my static stations were all ok (except for sit up, where i began to feel the ache just after 20+ sit ups).. the main problem was my running.. i deproved from 9.44 (the last time i ran in unit) to 11.19! OMG i really need to start training up again. this is not good... i feel so unfit. but at least i cleared my window and got my money. =D

friday - job hunting, angels and demons

i received a msg from my ex-colleague who's currently working at hangten HR. he needed some manpower for some events and i dragged emily and cheryl down to the main office for interview. so i accepted the job and decided not to go for the surveyor one. i think that this job's gonna be hard and risky and all. the pay ain't gonna be that lucrative, but i think the most important thing now is to gain more working experience which will definitely be of help in the future and when i step out of school and enter the working force.

after departing from hangten warehouse i went down to novena to meet my other ex-colleagues for lunch at ah mei's cafe. it has been a year since we saw one another; it was good to see that everyone's fine and all, and it felt like we only didnt see each other for quite a while.. since everyone still remains the same and all. it was a great lunch.. we talked alot alot of things.. something like HTHTing haha.

then i went down to dhoby to meet the OG for angels and demons. it was supposed to be at 6, i reached before 5, so what i tried to complete the book before watching the movie.. 1 hr for 300 odd pages. obviously i failed. anyway the movie sucked.. it deviated alot from the plot, just like davinci, and in this movie some of the characters are differente. i shant be a spoiler here but.. if you read the book, be prepared to see something different from what you expect from the book. if you havent read the book, then prepared to see alot of choppy scenes. i suppose the effect will be better if angels and demons were made into some 5 episode drama or something.

saturday

what a long day it was. went down to karen's house to have fun.. Guitar Hero and mahjong!
guitar hero was funnnnnnnnnnnnnnn but i only heard like 2 or 3 songs before. i have decided that if i had the money i would buy a guitar hero set at home too. mahjong's ok.. but the luck isnt there. everytime it's that nearly win one but then.. sigh.

then went down to kellyn's birthday party.. it was ok. understandable that she couldnt keep mingling with everyone of us. that's why i didnt bother to hold my 21st party back then. the place is so ulu.. NSRCC.. which posed a problem for the 3 of us (leonard me jaime) when we left the place and headed home.

will elaborate more on our expedition the next time! i am tired.. feel like sleeping again!

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 @ 299th post
I have somehow managed to make my end-of-year post the 299th one. How apt it is. Then I can celebrate 2009 with my 300th post for this blog! Hur hur.

In retrospect, 2008 seems to be easily summarised by one word: 乱. Be it in the social, economic or political aspects, this year is simply nothing but a mess. I doubt there is need to elaborate more; we can simply summarise the events that happened as "3F crisis": food, fuel and financial. To add on, we should not forget all the disasters that happened: cyclone in Myanmar, earthquake in Sichuan (the same time that Chelsea lost to Man Utd in Champions League), and so on. Not that there isn’t really anything good to remember this year, such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the 2 cheena pandas that went to Muzha zoo in Taiwan (and I am cursing as I am typing this, because these 2 pandas should have moved to Taiwan 1 year ago so that I could have visited them during my ORD trip blahblah) and I got my GST offset package and all. But after thinking for so long, these are the few things that are worth mentioning about, unless you guys can enlighten me further. So I can simply say that this year is basically a pretty bad one and may 2009 be a better year. I mean it.

Sidetrack: during yesterday’s meet-up session, wong mentioned that it felt as though we just ORD not long ago. Time flies; it has certainly been a while (over a year in fact) since we stepped out of camp with our pink IC. Post-NS life has been nothing but work for me. I was exposed to 2 companies during my 6-month holiday, each being pretty renowned in its own area. Come to think of it, although time passed by very quickly, it seemed as though it was forever when I was working. I have decided that working life sucks and it felt really good when I ended work at June, although I would say that during these 6 months, I really learnt a lot of soft-skills that I probably wouldn’t have learnt elsewhere. And getting exposed to those office-politics probably wasn’t a totally bad thing, it just reminds you that one always have to be careful and tactful whenever something is done, so as not to offend the other party. I am glad that I have remembered this by heart and even during my university life now, I am applying what I have learnt while I was working as a temp staff.

Working in Recruit Express was no doubt an experience for me. Having able to work in a competitive and fast-paced environment, I was glad to be able to survive for the 3 months that I was there. The staffs are nice and friendly, and I am grateful towards my mentor Liz, who was there to assist and guide me whenever I met obstacles along the way. In addition, I have made a lot of friends with fellow temp staff and we are still meeting up after every one of us has left the company for our further studies. I am glad that everyone is alive and kicking well. Of course, credits go to my working buddy CJ; it’s really fate that we are able to work together in a corporate world after working together in HQ coy for 1 year plus.

I also gained insight through working in SMRT, though working there was pretty much a chore. Working as a temp staff but covering a perm position was certainly not easy; the amount of stress level was high and having a perm staff as your employee was definitely weird. But I still managed to survive working there for 4 months and I am glad I did as I really learnt what it is like to be a HR executive after going through various recruitment drives and handling post recruitment issues like salary issues, promotion, and resignation and termination cases. I still vaguely remember one incident that some drivers were repatriated on the day that they were terminated due to undesirable behaviour (sorry but I can’t reveal too much, it’s private and confidential). It was just so... dramatic and I could still remember my boss saying “it’s part of the job. You have to be cold-hearted sometimes and be rational.”

School started in August, and between June and then I had 2 orientation camps and I am glad I went for it, cause I made new friends with my OG (quote: zee(: says: you made new friends. XD) MAFIA and CONAN! And lots of other new friends as I joined different sub-committees in Science Club. School has been fun and interesting so far and sometimes stressful and tiring too, especially during labs and projects. But I am not complaining because I feel that I have made the right choice so far by majoring in Chemistry. The December holidays have been great so far, I completed a marathon, caught up with friends, went Malaysia, bought a new phone, highlighted by hair… changes (for the better?) and now that the hols are ending soon, it’s time to recharge and gear up for the coming semester!

Also, this year marked by 21st year in this world. It’s supposed to be a very significant year where you are supposed to have more freedom and such, but for me it’s nothing much I guess. Expect for more burdens ad more responsibilities, and probably higher expectations too especially I am the eldest son of the family and the eldest grandson for my maternal side and now that I am 21 I am expected to be able to do more things blahblah. But it’s ok, I am still handling it well, not that stressful at all. Being 21 means that friends around you turn 21 too, this meant lots of 21st-birthday parties to attend. Apart from parties there were lots of outings and meet up sessions; with my JC classmates, sec 4 classmates, army mates and also my RE temps. Busy busy busy! And I seriously spent A LOT this year as compared to the previous 20 years of my life. This is scary; I ought to spend less next year and start saving money.

This year has been nothing but eventful (good and bad, probably more bad events) but I am glad 2008’s coming to an end. I am gonna say what I am going to say last year, may 2009 be a better year for me, in terms of my work and studies and I also wish for better health for my family and friends.

Happy 2009! (in advance lah, still got 20 odd hours and I am going shopping later! WOO FINALLY)

Saturday, August 30, 2008 @ so lost! SO LOST!
lectures are getting more and more confusing than ever. esp with johny mumbling to himself every now and then. if there's a survey on us commenting on our lectures i am so gonna write an essay about him. lol

and tutors are supposed to be my friends! but my math tutor is.. ah forget it. go and attend my tutorial and you know. just say i feel that i learnt more with prof chew. YOU ARE THE MAN!

had lunch with june and nelson yesterday. it was their last day in SMRT (like finally.. after 6 months). apparently alot of things happened after i left, and it has something gotta do with resignation. now even the manager who brought me in has resigned. this is ridiculous. that place is seriously not for work man. i wish the rest who are still there all the best in their future endeavours. and also for june who's pursuing her studies and nelson who's gonna enlist soon.

walle was nice. i liked it. the animation was cool and it was not an any other kid's show. there's meaning to it. just imagine what would it be like after 700 years from now. will our earth be the same as what is depicted in the movie? and also. imagine 700 years from now, humans are controlled by what used to be controlled by humans - robots. it's really some issues worth pondering. too bad that my mind was partially distracted by some stuff.

DnD later. what should i wear? perhaps i should just find my jc prom and try to fit into it. ha!

Sunday, June 22, 2008 @ The Wuxi finger hold!
i am finally a free man!

ended my work last friday and the feeling was really shiok! gave myself to a good treat.. watched 2 movies in 2 days. 1st was getsmart with nelson. not a bad movie, was really freaking lame.. esp maxwell smart..

Siegfried: How do I know you're not from CONTROL?
Maxwell Smart: If I were from CONTROL, you'd already be dead.
Siegfried: If you were from CONTROL, YOU'D already be dead.
Maxwell Smart: Neither of us is dead, so I'm obviously not from CONTROL.
[long pause]
Shtarker: That actually makes sense.

and went to watch kungfu panda after work with chiajin and anthony. it's a show that was worth the money. finally a good show that i have watched recently. the animation and the storyline was good. i really enjoyed the part where po and master shifu were fighting for the buns with their kungfu.. lol.

and jack black is the greatest panda in the world!

woot!

anyway, will be away for 5 days.. going for orientation camp tmr! cant wait.. looking forward to it (:

Wednesday, June 18, 2008 @ it's all part of HR
this entry is pretty outdated, but i hafta jot this down. one of the most memorable days in my term in SMRT as a HR personnel.

i believe many of you heard that my company has hired china drivers, but how many of you have heard that my company has sent china drivers back to china on the day they were dismissed?

it's scary. i shall not go onto the details on why they were dismissed. but when my manager told them the news they broke down. they were crying like there would be no tmr; it was understandable. i really emphathise with them and their situation: suddenly your ricebowl was gone. your dream to work hard in singapore and send back your hard earned cash to your family is gone. and the next moment you will be at the airport and taking the flight back to your hometown with nothing left with you. it's dramatic and drastic.

i was kinda caught in the drama as i was trying to calm down the 2 bus drivers who was dismissed but it didnt seem to work. they were kneeling down and banging their heads on the floor to plead us to give them a 2nd chance. as much as the management would want to, i think the decision is a justified one considering what they have commited: assault in public wearing uniform.

the 2 workers left the airport for their flight home at around 840pm. it had been a emotional rollercoaster, at least for me; for someone who has watched the workers go for their english lessons and driving lessons and finally passed out from the training to become a full-fledged bus driver, this is something that was affecting me pretty much for that day.

but as my manager says it, it's all part of HR - termination and dismissal cases. haish..

@ one night in geylang
ok to be specific it's not really geylang. it's at aljunied area. a friend of mine asked me out for dinner and also for some business opportunities. said that i can continue to earn big bucks even when i am in uni. sounds too good to be true? but i just accepted his invitation and see it for myself anyway.

he happened to be working for this health company selling chinese health supplements and also western products. sounds cool. then he started talking to me about all the job prospects and everything and i was astounded. then he introed me to his friend who started talking about how the company works and everything.

then i got completely turned off: one gains commissions when he intros new friends into the company and when those he has introduced in turn introduces more people in the company.

sounds familiar eh?

MLM.

his friends started to pressurise me to fill up the application form from like.. 9 to 10.30pm? if i didn tell them that i had to leave as my house was far away (sembawang), i'd prob still be there at midnight.

goodness.

i am not saying that MLM is illegal. i am just not a believer of it. quick and lucrative money? save it. i'd rather treasure hard0-earned cash.

Monday, June 09, 2008 @ counting down
rough day at work today. everyone's feeling so tensed up, including me. suddenly the feeling of ORDing dawns upon me again.

just that this feeling somehow felt stronger than when i was in camp. i just cant wait for 20 june to come and get out of that place.

hopefully it's just today.

luckily, a dose of 张韶涵's songs and a run around the ulu part of my neighbourhood saved the night. and i am turning in soon! so tired..

Wednesday, June 04, 2008 @ I DONT WANT TO GO TO WORK
and i have started to take out my chem notes to revise. i dont care if people say i am kiasu or anything. i dont want to end up listening to alien language when i step into the lecture hall in the future. believe me, 2.5 years of non-studying is no joke.

and i just had a session of "talking with the aliens". i need my knowledge back!

Monday, May 05, 2008 @ the story of a dustbin
once upon a time there was a dustbin, which was located at a certain spot in the office for quite a while (since i stepped into the office). no one made any noise about this dustbin. no one tripped over it. no one said it was unsightly. it was just there.. and it did its job diligently by feeding off the waste produced by the owner..

one day, a certain senior manager stepped into the office. and he kicked the dustbin. then he started making noise about this dustbin, saying about how bad its location was, blah blah and subsequently making a big fuss out of it.

seriously. the fact that this senior manager hit the dustbin simply shows that he doesnt know where he's going. everyone can see the dustbin and avoid it, why can't him? and it's just a dustbin. why make such a fuss?

nonsensical. ridiculous.

i have lost my respect for him. luckily im just a temp.

Thursday, May 01, 2008 @ labour day
finally, 25% down, 75% more to go.

distributing flyers can really be quite an experience.. i really had the chance to see the many faces of singaporeans; from the enthusiastic ones who came over to grab a piece of the flyer from me, to those who treated me like a monster - avoiding me as i approached them.

but i was pretty disgusted at one of the passengers on his way to the mrt station. i was standing at the escalator, he approached me for a piece of the flyer which i happily gave to him (so as to clear my stock). he took that piece of paper, looked at me and said "oooh what is this?" and guess what? in front of my face he took it and crushed the paper into a paperball and threw the paperball at my face. AT MY FACE. and then he shouted "LOSER" at me.

woo! what kind of singaporean is this?

today is labour day. while the rest are resting, i became fresh labour.. was involved in this recruitment drive for smrt. quite fun i should say, considering it was my 1st exposure in a recruitment drive. the number of people who went for the mass interviews and all. luckily evreything went well. and i can clock x2.0 for my salary as i was working on a PH. woot!

just hope that everything will be as smooth as today for the next 3 days.. my weekend is gone.. RARRRRR

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 @
after procrastinating for so long, i have finally changed my blogskin! cheers. but instead of choosing from some other websites i have decided to revert back to blogger's original skins. simpler, neater, less fanciful. the way i like it. and i have changed some links too.. away with procrastination. time to get things done.

work has been the same as always, except that i am currently involved in the one-week screening of this documentary called "an inconvenient truth", as part of the company's effort to go green and advocate the importance of saving the environment. i managed to caught the whole show yesterday afternoon (yes call me chaokeng king.. i just wanted to get away from my cubicle that was awash with work) and it has somehow touched my heart. of course there were certain issues that were detable, but the gist of the movie was enough: save the environment, save the earth. i do not believe that the problem of global warming is a natural process by the earth. yes it has happened before, during the medival agees. but that was nothing compared to now, and today's problem is escalating more than ever.

also, i have been shortlisted for nus interview scheduled next tuesday. wish me luck. i shall try to redeem myself.. hoho.
