When we were off to see the geese

Later we found ourselves in the bird hide at Wigtown and used the ranger's powerful telescope to watch the geese fattening themselves up on grass in readiness for the long journey north. Are we turning into twitchers?

Beauty in unexpected places

On our wanderings after the wild geese we passed this old decaying tree - well, you have to get your camera out .. !

Celtic geese

After Bill's excellent tutorial at the Camera Club I've got a bit more work to do .... !

This is an "embroidery" which I did a while ago - geese made out of layers of voile, stitched between romeo and then cut away with the soldering iron, on a background of crumpled brown paper painted with acrylics. The wild goose was the symbol for the Holy Spirit, suggesting a wildness and freedom which is sometimes lost today. Time to start following the goose again!

A significant something

Sometimes you come across a word or phrase which really speaks to you - I came across this when reading Luke's gospel (chapter 12) in The Message -

"..carefree in the care of God .."

It doesn't mean that I don't experience things which are difficult or painful or have no sense of caring for others, but it is how I want to live my life, knowing that I am cared for and loved by God. A good thought for a rainy Saturday!

New covers

I finally got round to finishing off a couple of sketchbook covers. The first one is using one of my favourite textiles - chocolate wrapping papers (come free with smell of choc!)

and the second one was a fabric I made earlier which became this book cover -

Many thanks to my lovely family for MD cards and pressies - I shall enjoy choosing something!

Playing with colour

I've discovered the magic wand tool this week and played about with it . This is an image of a rusty tractor wheel similar to the one in the last entry. These are some of my favourite colours (even though I try to get away from them!) - I'm still working on a way to be able to combine images like this using a transparent background. I expect it's quite easy but it takes me ages to work it out by trial and error but it's fun getting there! As usual, the handbook doesn't go into so much detail ..

Rusty things and lobster pots

A lovely day made us decide to walk along the coast starting at the village of Boulmer. Lots of rusty wheels on tractors once used to pull the fishing cobles out to sea ...

.... not to mention the unusual birds to be seen along this coast!

And no fishing village would be complete without some lobster pots. A great walk and the first picnic of the year.

It rocks!

There is an isolated outcrop of rock on the coast near us which is called Charlie's Garden but which is getting steadily smaller and will probably disappear completely one day. Bill at the Camera Club suggested that it was a good place for photographing rock, se we took ourselves off there to take a few pics. Here are two of mine - lots of possibilities for further work on them.
