A walk in the snow

We woke unexpectedly to about 8 inches of snow today, followed by clear blue skies and warm sunshine! We walked through the fields near our house and were forced to call in to a garden centre for a coffee... The things you have to do!

Treasures of darkness 3

This third image was the result of layering these two images -

- a photo of foam on a river, taken from a bridge

and an image of fossils altered in psp. Thanks for looking!

Treasures of darkness 2

Thought I would do a "mini-series" of "treasures of darkness" using images of my mixed media/textile work combined with photographic images which I've taken over the past year. It's a bit of an experiment, combining two of my interests and speaking of treasures to be revealed in unexpected places.

Fabric fling

In between playing with psp designs I've been returning to some of my favourite things, one being making a bag, this time for one of our small granddaughters.

Then with some of my Christmas money I bought some fabric (plain red and green) from Ikea, and a couple of remnants at John Lewis. The dotty red is PVC coated cotton which will give me chance to try out the walking foot on the sewing machine.

Next to reading (and smelling!) new books, having new fabrics to use is one of the small pleasures of life ....

Not set in stone

Playing with layers again using images of textile work, ready to transfer to fabric (sometime!)

Layers

Inspired by others' blogs and ideas at the Camera club I have been playing with layers using some of my old stitched pieces. It's often by trial and error and a lot of patience - why do the handbooks give so little information about what I want to do!? I'm exploring the bringing together of digital photography with textile and mixed media work, but it could take a while ....

Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed ... at the scale of the tragedy in Haiti, but knowing that the whole world is responding. We can all do something.

New wind direction

The wind changes direction and suddenly there is a whole new scene, the old familiar things disappear or are transformed and new possibilities open up!
On a personal note I decided it was time to get some "work in progress" now that we are forced to spend a bit more time in the house due to the weather. I used my new flexible tripod -

- and had it clinging to a chair back to take these pics of wip -

- layers of voile on vilene with fused shapes covered with foil, zapped, then some machine sewing ...

a transferred altered image with stitching ...

and finally this photo of a flower which became this -
and then this - transferred to fabric and stitched

Time for a cuppa now! Enjoy the snow if you have any!

Still snowing

The snow really makes other colours stand out - things which I might not have noticed ...

In the deep midwinter

We awoke to deep snow yesterday - here are a few snowy scenes taken in Cramlington. The church is in the original village of the town which has expanded rapidly since the sixties, the second image, well, I just liked the shapes! The sun came out for a few seconds in the third image. Still got the snow today with more forecast.
