June 2016

Another month as gone to quickly.
So we're half way through the year....... it'll soon be Christmas!

June was a busy month on the work front..... our annual AGM, national RSPCA week, national volunteer week, lots of events in the shop to raise extra money, celebrating our 25th anniversary at Little Valley & topped off with our annual Shelter Day at the end of the month.... phew!!

Outside of work we celebrated OH's birthday, I finished my jumper & started my Home Fire jumper. I visited the Dig For Victory show in Bristol,  treated the kids to a new toy, had some time off to spend with the kids & voted in the EU referendum........ what a shock???

Let's see what July brings

April 2016

Yep another month as gone.

Lots of making this month, 2 vintage pot holders, lace socks, Land Girl for my Etsy shop, green bow scarf & started my second Victory jumper in a summer colour way.

I aso brought a new cardigan, celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday, saw Mike Peters & drooled over the knitwear in Home Fires.

I enjoyed a few days at home with the cats & tried very hard to eat healthy, since I was told by the hospital I have to lose over 5 stone before they will operate on my Gallstones :-(

It's not going to happen so I guess I'll have to live with the pain but I'm very aware I've put on over a stone in a year so it doesn't hurt to try to lose that. I'm 1/2 way through my 'Saints' food box from a local lady, all Slimming World friendly & very tasty.

Wish me luck!

September 2015

September came & went...... and so did October!!!

It was a beautiful sunny month.
I enjoyed a week off, new birthday shoes, spending time with my children, celebrating 7 years in blogland, knitting for Crikey in November, a night out with the girls seeing Rocky Horror Live & walking 5k for the RSPCA Big Walkies.
I didn't enjoy having a chest infection for over a week!!

July 2015

I've been away too long!

July seemed to pass in a blur...... remembering the Somme, the wedding of my nephew, a week off from work,  knitting cats, starting my Christmas cardigan, spending lots of time at home alone, finishing my temporary job as a fundraiser, having one last chance to see the rescue cats & the big blue moon!!!

August feels like a fresh new start...... I'm back in my shop full time & feeling much happier, funny how my eczema has nearly cleared up! OH has moved back, we'll wait & see how long that last!

I hope August slows down a bit!

March 2015

One of my favourite months has come & gone in a flash!

It was a funny old month....... my phone was stolen from my shop so I had to find the money to buy a new one, no it wasn't insured! At least I now have a very lovely iPhone 6. I had a great week off which went far to fast, me & the cats enjoyed the eclipse in the chilly garden, spent a day with the family, started my Victory jumper, finding boot sale treasures, treating myself to the fabulous A stitch in Time knitting book, enjoying spring flowers & watching The Imitation Game.

I also managed 2 brilliant gigs...... Mike Peters & Stiff Little Fingers

We're nearly halfway through April, why does time go so quickly?
It's starting to stress me out :(

Still Here......

'cor blimey where does the time go??

I can't believe I haven't posted for nearly 2 weeks! August seems to be flying by & what with a turn in the weather it feels like autumn is nearly here.

I don't seem to have done much which is why I haven't posted anything. At the end of July we went to Bridport vintage market.

We found a couple of bargains for my mums birthday & I found some lovely fabric

I did have plans to make a cushion but it's still on the back of my chair, well at least it's not packed away in my fabric box.

I've been busy making poppies for my Etsy shop

I've also been spending time with my girls & of course working.

I was due to have a holiday next week but unfortunately I've had to cancel it as there was no one to cover the shop :(
I've got a 4 day weekend from the 28th to celebrate my birthday then it's back to the grind stone!
My deputy leaves the week after so I'm not sure when my next day off will be, I better make the most of it.

Pop over to see me on Instagram as I find it easier than blogging.

March 2014

March was a busy month!

I ticked a few things off my to do list….. I knitted a Miss Marple scarf, a fox stole, a turban & my nephews tank top. I adjusted my charity shop bargain skirt (I've yet to wear it) & made some 1940's flower brooches.
But I've yet to finish my hexagon blanket :(

I had a week off, we had some sunny days, the first Crikey of the year & I spent lots of time with my girls.

It was a good month.

My Holiday

How come a week off always goes so fast?

It's was a productive week

This is what I did…..

Finished my scarf

Made a fox stole

Started a turban which I finished on my last day….. more photo's to follow

I finally got around to sorting out my bargain charity shop find skirt. It was a size 10 which I had no hope of ever fitting in but I loved the fabric & it had a net petticoat. I chopped the waist band off & added elastic. The petticoat had to go as it really was a size 10! Voila it now fits, it does make me look a  bit tubby so I'm not sure how often I'll wear it

Booking tickets to see this again in May

Finding out I have a space at Crikey……. not selling my wears but goodies from the shop!
It's a great way to raise more money & raise awareness of the shelter

Spring Time!

The daffodils are out, the sun is shinning & the Cheltenham festival has started. That can only mean one thing……. my holiday!!!!

This must be the first year when I wasn't chomping at the bit (get it!) to have a break from work…… that's a good sign isn't it?
My deputy is unwell at the moment so my only concern is what I'll be going back to.

Yesterday was my first day off so I had a lazy day with the girls watching Forest Gump & knitting. It doesn't get better than that

Popsy's 1970's soft focus pose!

Went to get a cup of tea & Jean stole my seat!

Today will be a bit different….. meeting my friend for lunch then spending the afternoon in the pub watching the horse racing….. shhh don't tell my employers!
Hope I win my millions

January Book Review

It's a bit late in the month to be doing the book review but I don't seem to have enough time to get everything done!

January was good on the reading front, I managed 3 books

A heart-warming story of love and friendship in wartime from the bestselling author of Where the Heart is and London Belles.
It's September 1940 and the London Blitz has begun. For the four girls living at No. 13 Article Row, life must go on, despite the nightly bombing raids.
Underground employee, Agnes, is working round the clock to deal with the huge influx of people seeking safety in her station, while Dulcie is trying hard to make peace with her mother.
Nurse Sally returns to Liverpool and gets a shocking reminder of the past, but this is pushed from her mind when a dreadful accident occurs.
As Christmas approaches, her friend Tilly meets a handsome young American called Drew. Could he be the one to mend her broken heart?
As the bombs continue to rain down on a wintery London, the girls do their best to create some Christmas cheer – but the only present they really want is to be home for Christmas.

I started this one just after Christmas, I read A Christmas Promise by the same author & thought this was the 2nd book. Unfortunately this was the 1st so I got a bit confused with the characters!
I found it really hard going & lost interest in the beginning but managed to struggle through.
This is not a reflexion of the book, I would just recommend if you plan reading it just make sure you read this one first!!

When Imogen and Anna unexpectedly inherit their grandmother Vivien's ice cream parlour, it turns both their lives upside-down. The Brighton shop is a seafront institution, but while it's big on charm it's critically low on customers. If the sisters don't turn things around quickly, their grandmother's legacy will disappear forever.
With summer looming, Imogen and Anna devise a plan to return Vivien's to its former glory. Rather than sell up, they will train up, and make the parlour the newest destination on the South Coast foodie map.
While Imogen watches the shop, her sister flies to Italy to attend a gourmet ice cream-making course. But as she works shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best chefs in the industry, Anna finds that romance can bloom in the most unexpected of places...

This book had been on my Amazon wish list for sometime after I read/hear about it through a follower blogger. I was lucky to find this in a bag of donations that came into the shop & after reading so many WW2 romance books I thought I needed a break.
A quick easy read that was really enjoyable……. someone said 'like a bar of good chocolate'!
The plot lines were easy to work out & I can safely say there were no shocks but I still really enjoyed it.
A great summer holiday read & the ice cream recipes will make your mouth water!
And it's cheap as chips on Amazon at the moment!

In my dreams, I was always in some vast landscape on a long, straight road. Driving. Always driving.'
Gwenda had always loved the open road, but her home town of Newcastle didn't really offer the sort of adventure she longed for. So, in 1957, with friend and fellow nurse Pat in tow, she left the dismal British winter behind, and embarked on an amazing American adventure.
After a year nursing in Cleveland, Gwenda, Pat and three new friends set off on a road trip around North America, driving in a rickety 1949 Ford. What follows is the charming true story of five remarkable young women. Over the course of eighteen months, the girls go to a 4th July rodeo, visit San Francisco and Las Vegas, learn to surf in Hawaii, spot movie stars in Hollywood and celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Wherever they go, the travelling nurses cause a sensation. This is a delightfully nostalgic memoir of friendship and the romance of the open road.

Another charity shop find. I wasn't sure about this book as I hadn't heard of it before & it certainly wasn't on my wish list but I thought I'd give it a go. Oh boy was I pleased I did…… I loved it!!
It was one of those books I didn't want to end. I would loved to have visited America in the 1950's so I really enjoyed reading all about Gwenda & her friends adventure.
10/10

And just because it's Valentines day

November 2013

So what did November bring….

At the beginning of the month we celebrated the girls first year with us :)
It was a mad panic getting ready for my last craft fair of the year and possibly my last ever!

My first remembrance day in 2 years that I didn't work, a week off from work, Christmas lights going up in the city, working hard in my garden, getting ready for Christmas in my PJ's & doing the window in my shop….. phew, it was a busy time!

I also picked up a nasty cold at the end of the month which I still have…. 2 weeks & counting :(

So we're already 1 week into December…… only 17 more sleeps until the big day!
I need to start thinking about getting the very small amount of presents I have to get….. as I can't leave the shop during the day & I never go into town on my day off I'm really behind…. in fact I'm in a little world of my own.

Time off.....

It's been over 3 months since I last had some time off from work & boy do I need it!

I had to work Monday & Tuesday as my deputy is not ready to run the store alone for a whole week but at least I get 5 days off.

I'm still trying to shake off this cold so I'm being very lazy, I've got a busy week next week so must feel better.

I need to finish my rabbit slipper order for the local shop

Plus make lots of things for the next Crikey fair in November.

My head is spinning with new ideas but I don't have enough time to make it all.

OH goes away this afternoon until Monday so that should give me some time to crack on.... if you see me on FB or Twitter please tell me off!!!

March 2013

March was a busy month even though I haven't blogged much!
It started with the first Crikey of the year, followed by Matthews birthday party, yarn bombing, a week off, granny square making, Birdsong at the theatre, The Men They Couldn't Hang & lots of hot cross buns!!!

It's been a good month.

I've also read another 2 books, I'll be back with reviews later.

Hope March was good for you too

I'm back!!!

So sorry for the unexplained break from blogging..... not sure what happened!
The time has just flown by & I haven't felt I had much to say.

So today it St Patricks Day..... as you know I love to celebrate but this year has been different.
I've been off for Cheltenham racing this week as normal...... however I haven't really got into it & it's been the first year in many I didn't put a bet on.
I've spent most of the week asleep...... not sure why I'm so worn out but hey I'm happy to go with it.

I was due back to work on Tuesday but I was told on Thursday I had to return on Monday..... this made me very unhappy as I had plans for the weekend which I was told I had to cancel.
So for the first time in over 20 years I'm not celebrating today.
Feels kinda weird!
So today OH went out to celebrate while I stayed at home finishing the list of jobs..... well ok I did have a nap this afternoon too!

So what have I been up to...

In my last post I mentioned the Crikey Spring Fling...

My 1940's crochet brooches went down a storm!
Hoping to get them on my website & Folksy shop later.

On the Sunday it was Matthew's birthday so we had a party

Can't believe he's 4!

Tuesday was Make, Do and Mend.... this month it was yarn bombing!

You can read more about it on our blog and the local newspapers website

I have been busy...... lots going on at work too so no wonder I was worn out!

This week is was nice to relax with the girls

And try to finish my blanket

Remember that?
I started it about 5 years & I still have about 60 squares to make!

I hope to be back to normal next week..... commenting & blogging!

All change.....

My week off went so quickly & I didn't managed to do everything I wanted......
but I did have a rest which is what I needed.

However I changed my bedroom curtains

Before

Very cheap Argos curtains that I brought 6 years ago when we moved in..... they were a quick fix but have lasted well.

After
Some new posh Laura Ashley curtains!

I love this print & have brought a few rolls of wallpaper in different colours!

Before discounts these curtains would have cost £125 but I must say they're not a patch in quality to the £10 Argos ones..... although much prettier!
As you can see they let a lot of light through & are very thin.
The header cords also snapped when I gathered them!!!

Who would've thought???

Stay warm & safe in the wintery weather

That was 2012!

I'm back!!!

It's been a crazy week, I've had to work everyday since 2nd so time was not on my side but I've got a week off so hopefully I can catch up.

Can you believe we're already 1 week into 2013?

I was hoping this year might go a little slower but I could be wrong!

I love doing a yearly post...... I find them really interesting to look back on but if you've not interested in what I did in 2012 you can look away now!

December
Our first Christmas without Ted but we had new friends to share it with. Christmas market, crochet & generally busy, busy!

So that was 2012..... it seemed to go in a flash!

I had plans for 2012

  •  Update my website for Josie-Mary & Make, Do and Mend - Yep but I need to keep on top of it
  •  I'm booked in to 2 vintage fairs this year & need to pull my finger out so I have a decent amount of stock - Nope I was still panicking at the last minute! I ended up doing 5!
  • Re design posters & newsletters for Make, Do and Mend - Not really!
  • Learn how to use my Mac laptop!! - I'm getting better, this year I need to clean it up

In 2013 I would like to
  • Get more cats!
  • Sort my job out
  • Pull my finger out with Make, Do and Mend or stop doing it
  • Be more prepared for Crikey.... don't leave it until the last minute
  • Sort out my crafting area
  • Decorate my living room & bathroom
  • Slow down & enjoy life more
  • Sew an item of clothing
  • Finish my crochet blanket..... think it's about 5 years since I started!
  • Read more books - I've signed up for a challenge
  • Be happy!

Think that's all!
