cut-off day blues

i'm supposed to be busy wrapping-up the purchase orders but i guess we're back to the good ol' days when cramming for P.O.'s have become the expertise of some people. *sigh*

will (edit) update later...

(edit @9:01pm)
...still in the office. i will now pack my things and call it a day at work! laters...

(edit @10:53ppm)
...now sitting back on our bed, wifey beside me and i'm just finishing this post before calling it a night! i'm simply glad it's Friday! weekend is teh love! anyway, we got busy by past 4PM (as usual) to catch up on all orders and process everything but we still have to wait for deviation approvals. that drags all our work to late hours of the day and we just need to bear with it every cut-off day. *sigh* we could have been compensated well if we were able to attend the supposed dinner treat by our GM at a fine steak resto nearby our office again, *sigh*. that comes once in a bluemoon! sorry for the miscommunication, GM was calling my mobile phone when i was already near our home place...

GM: Jon nasa'n na kayo?
Me: Po?
Me: Eh sir pwede bang next week na lang ulit? Hehe..
GM: *chuckles*
Me: Ay sir, pasensya na po. thank you po.
GM: Ok sige, di bale na..
*hangs up the phone*

there goes my free steak dinner. *boohoo* i immediately called my work partner and informed her of that missed opportunity but deep inside i was thinking why GM is giving us a treat. very unusual. perhaps his kind heart took pity on us having to work overtime up to minutes past nine... but still... sayang!

but i'm glad i'm home! wifey prepared me a nice dinner and another thing happened a few minutes earlier. i spoiled my own bday surprise to wifey! because of a work-related phone call, i have mentioned to the person on the other line that i'll be on leave on Monday, while wifey was with me in the room! *slaps forehead* oh well, c'est la vie at least, i don't have plans yet for the day. the only thing that's sure is i'll be with my wifey for the whole day on her birthday! yay!

tomorrow we're fully booked. too bad we can't go to Fully Booked the book store, i need to go to the dentist to have *my* tooth checked. then do a handful of church obligations and perhaps consume one promo coupon from a pastry shop and give wifey a treat. well, let's see what tomorrow gives. for the meantime, i'm calling it a day!

paying attention to mother nature

without researching, reading, or paying attention to news or features about climate change, one can easily observe that weather over the years has become weird. just here in Manila, early April this year, it's been raining like the wet season has formally started. then we already experienced a couple (and more) typhoons. when the sun shines, you can't last under it for even just ten minutes otherwise you'll get barbecued.

since people in Manila experience only two seasons, wet & dry, hearing a news such as melting ice caps may not have a strong impact but when you read the articles discussing these things, one may pause and take a look fast forward to the future and wonder if we can still enjoy what mother nature will offer us in the next few years. especially that earlier news already warned us about this alarming "developments".

for us, and our future children, it's time we put our acts together and do as much we can to pay attention to mother nature--- get everyone aware about climate change and in our own little way, save the only world we can call home.

With this, I am now promoting a Youtube video entry from a kababayan for Oxfam's 48 Hour YouTube Cannes Lions Ad Contest. The contest aims to choose a short film that will encourage people to sign up an online petition for world leaders to attend the UN Summit for Climate Change on December 2009 in Copenhagen.

Thanking God, It's Friday!

Yay! This week has been crazy when speaking of the national HKKH-scandal headlines in the country... i'm not dwelling on the issue again as there's a lot of views that have been said about it already but before totally abandoning the issue, i just want to say i really feel sorry for the girl-victim and that the guy should be man enough to take responsibility of this scandal. no person, especially women or kids, deserve to be treated that way. anyway, let's leave this issue to the authorities.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

last week, i thought it's gonna be cut-off week already but looking at the calendar, we still have this week. so, next week should be the hell week! :p anyhoo, i still have a load of work to get done coz in a few minutes i need to leave the office.

(edit at 10:18pm)

...today i was wearing my newly purchased A B N K K B S N P L Ako?! t-shirt by the mysterious Bob Ong. I'm just too proud to brag it around coz i know some friends want that kind of shirt, too. :P well perhaps the Bob Ong fans... i'm not really bookish but surprisingly, i have an almost complete collection of his books. and on this post i have confessed that i'm one of the many fans of Bob Ong's writings. in fact, i only have the latest book, Kapitan Sino, left to add to my collection. that also reminds me to finish reading Alamat Ng Gubat which was given by the thoughtful kid, Lily Jane (LJ), on my birthday (2008). wow! it's been a year! i need to get back to reading (yeah, like.. good luck!) LJ already has the book and upon seeing it, i liked its cover--- gray. it's less thicker than my favorite yellow book and from the teasers i read from here (special thanks to Cai), the latest offing of Bob Ong must be something to stir up the Filipino senses again in facing national/social issues. I haven't got a reply from Ms. Aimee yet if the book's already available at Fully Booked so maybe i'd look into National Bookstores where copies of it are already available.

looking forward to the weekend. tomorrow, wifey and i will be going back to her dentist to do some final "repair" on her braces before she gives birth. then i'll be teaching the children choir by late afternoon and maybe wifey and i can talk about some other things for the future. hmm... it seems i want another date with @ Figaro to talk about those stuffs... iced coffee for me, non-caffeine drink for her.

hayysss... thanking God, it's Friday! weekend is the love! time with wifey, time with family... soon, time with baby! :)

19 years onward...

May 19, 1990--- the date when i was baptized into the Church of Christ.

Looking back more than 19 years ago, it just amazes me how i came to trust God's words written in the Bible. I've admired the power of God's words for they are complete and relevant in attaining eternal life. for this particular entry, i'd like to post one of the lessons taught in the congregation some years back but is still very relevant today and perhaps as long as we live. the lesson gives instructions relating to the youth and for parents:

First advice is for the young chosen ones to come and listen, for they will be taught to honor the LORD (Psalms 34:11). A child can be known if he is honest and good by what he does (Proverbs 20:11). Because of this, a strong admonition is taught to the young ones: don’t give in to sinners and stay away from them for these men are setting a trap for themselves (Proverbs 1:10, 15-18). The youth should remain intelligent by obeying the law, for children who make friends with good-for-nothings become a disgrace to their father (Proverbs 28:7). In this regard, the youth are advised not to stop learning for what they were taught previously, because what they already know might be neglected and just wasted (Proverbs 19:27). More so, those who love knowledge would want to be straightened when wrong while it is stupid to hate being corrected (Proverbs 12:1).

Parents, on the other hand, are advised to teach their children and advise them to be prayerful, so that when their turn comes, and even their next generation, they will always put their trust in God and never forget what He has done (Psalms 78:6-7). In time, when one’s parents abandon him, the LORD will be there to take care of him (Psalms 27:10). To be truly happy, we must seek the LORD to find life and He will be pleased with us. Those who do not find the LORD will be hurt and death to those who hate Him (Proverbs 8:32, 35-36).

Still, parents, especially the mothers, are advised to watch over their children (Deuteronomy 4:9), that daughters may be trained to love their own husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be good housewives who submit themselves to their husbands, so that no one will speak evil of the message that comes from God (Titus 2:4-5). We are then instructed to serve the LORD in honesty and integrity, obey His laws and do everything that He commanded us just like how David did (1 Kings 9:4).

Obedience to the LORD comes with a reward:
“Happy are those who obey the LORD, who live by His commands. Your work will provide for your needs; you will be happy and prosperous. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in your home, and your sons will be like young olive trees around your table. A man who obeys the LORD will surely be blessed like this.” (Psalms 128:1-4)

78 All Of Ye Prepare

All of ye prepare, hear now His scripture
And the holy words of God.
Use it hence as your guiding light
On the path, to stray not from right.

Know ye that His word, strong and almighty,
Never will it fade away.
All the earth and heaven may pass
But His word forever will last.

Into our hearts His words we cherish,
May that we live His every word.
Strive to be perfect as He is,
And we’ll live in holy bliss.

wrapping-up the weekend

ok, wifey's watching the agoncillo-santos nuptial ("unchanging love" on ABS CBN being hosted by Kris & Boy) while i'm updating my blog. i can hardly focus on my entry since the TV is just 2 feet away from my right and wifey keeps on commenting on the feature story. anyway...

wifey and i were able to visit wack-wack condo again yesterday and wifey took a short dip at the pool. i was supposed to take a plunge in the pool too but people were preparing the pool area for a later birthday party. and the pool isn't really that clean. so, after a few minutes on the water, we decided to get back to the unit and wash up, then doze off...ZzZzZzzz.... -_- we woke up before we saw Katrina Halili shedding tears on cam during an interview by Startalk regarding the recent exposure of her alleged scam video with a doctor (kwak kwak?) then followed by the feature of Aling Dionisia's "debut" party, then we headed home. It was nice seeing the place again and Aba attended on us during our short visit to the place. well, tita Gie & the whole family are enjoying their US trip that's why the grandma is there. good to know also that tita gie's cute dog already knows how to pay respect to her masters... hehe... she was jsut guarding us as we eat our lunch or perhaps she's waiting for good graces from the dining table. whatever it is, she's adorable!

this weekend, we also got the baby bag & stoller we were eyeing since a month ago. thanks to the harassed sponsors, we were able to purchase these stuffs. we just need a few additional things and we're good!

today, i'm so delighted because after a decade of not wearing a wrist watch, i got myself one. wifey & i strolled in the mall and we again passed by the watch section of the dept. store. wifey was saying that i take a look at the watches coz i have expressed my eagerness to have one again the last time we visited the mall. i was just too amused to get one again! it's just a simple (and inexpensive) black wrist watch and now i can tell the time any time without looking at my mobile phone! woohoo!! and oh, speaking of purchases, cai was kind enough to get me a Bob Ong shirt yesterday at peyups! i asked her to get me one (yeah, Bob Ong fans we are) since she'd be able to go to the selling venue while i can not. so there, i need to schedule our meet so i can get my shirt and pay her. :p

meanwhile, it's cut-off week ahead. yay!

The Official Birthday Post :)

(post under construction...)

33 on 03.03.03 stories... laterz! :p

(...editing starts here, 11:55pm)

it's 5 minutes before the day is over. i'm officially 33. now i'm beginning to believe that life indeed starts at forty. so there. i'm still young. haha! :p

i'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who greeted me personally, thru SMS, thru Facebook, thru Twitter, thru Plurk, and of course thru this blog. i really appreciate the thought. this is my first birthday as a married man and as an expecting father and i'm just too happy to have my wifey beside me. she's the most loving, caring, and cheerful person i've known outside my core family and relatives. and i just feel so blessed having her in my life. she always want to give me pleasant surprises but i always spoil it and she likes seeing me happy! ok, this blog post is supposed to be about me but well, talking about my better half is like talking about the other half of me already so i'd like to share my happiness with her.

anyway, my birthday celebration started last sunday by having a dinner with dad and wifey. then the BIG surprise party was held at home last night. officemates slept over, and they sang 'til almost two at dawn today. lots of food and guests were all enthusiastic--- some of them came as early as four in the afternoon while i arrived at 830pm from work. now you know. they were too delighted to see me because that were all hungry already. yay! today, officemates gave me a cake (boxed in red).
here are some photos taken last night during the surprise party:

okay, the photo date shouldn't read May 1st. i think someone played with the digital camera and adjusted the date incorrectly. anyhoo... view more pictures here.

spoiler stories

earlier today i plurked that it isn't my intent to be a surprise party spoiler. i have spoiled two surprises for this occasion on two different scenes:

1) today, my officemates ordered me a cake without my knowledge. we were all busy in the office when the phone rang. naturally as a frontliner, i have to answer it.

caller: hello, ________ Corporation?
me: yes, who's this?
caller: opo.
me: uhmm... ano yung pinadeliver?
caller: cake po.

woopsss... sorry! well, that was the second time. the first spoiler was this:

2) last sunday (mothers day), i was looking for a photo of me and my mom for a mothers day blog entry. upon browsing on our laptops file folders, i saw a file with a dot wmv file name extension. out of curiosity, i clicked on the file and alas! the video presentation intended for my next-day-big-birthday-bash was exposed to my eyes! i didn't want to pretend as if i didn't know about it so i informed wifey to make good in planning surprises next time so it won't be spoiled. but nonetheless, the outcome of the birthday bash was awesome!

now i'd like to share what wifey laboured in order to come up with a video presentation about me (even if some photos degraded me, hahaha!) here's the birthday video my wife prepared for me, and which was shown last night for the guests... yay!

again, many thanks to all those who remembered. :) i'd like to end this birthday post with a birthday quote from Frederick Leboyer: "Birth may be a matter of a moment, but it is a unique one."

iBlog5, mothers day and my pre-birthday celebration!

it has been an exciting weekend, probably one of the best weekends this year, so far. first, i have attended my first ever iBlog event, the iBlog5. it was a pleasure to see and meet the famous bloggers--- the names that i usually just see only online were given faces. some who i've seen in video blogs still awed me upon seeing them in person. too bad i only lasted all throughout the event's day session. topics discussed during the afternoon (as indicated in the programme/agenda) should have been more interesting. but nah... no regrets in leaving early. of course, family comes first. :)

anyway, it was my first iBlog attendance so there's really no point of comparison with the first four bloggers summit. i just heard from the "veteran bloggers" that this years event was the most-attended and personally, i can just take my hats off to the organizers. organizing this kind of event isn't really that easy and making it a success is another story. also, the sponsors of the event played a major role to its success. these kind of events for bloggers should be useful to make blogging in the Philippines take a step ahead as time goes by. as discussed by the different speakers (during the morning session) i can attest that blogging has come a long way since six years ago. yes. i've been blogging for six years now and i feel that i haven't changed my style of blogging since then. soon, i'll just be too proud as a blogger, when blogs are recognized as equal with an editorial in a broadsheet. that time, bloggers may already learn being a "journalist" in their own way and make a difference with the community he lives in. i think it's what the blogging summit is all about--- taking bloggers into the next level.

today is mothers day. since mobile phones were readily available, this is the only mothers day that i didn't send out mothers day greetings, or even forwarded those forwarded mothers day greeting texts. i don't know but i don't feel the enthusiasm of greeting all the mothers out there that it's their special day today. maybe, everyday should be mothers day and not only during second sundays of May. their role as a mother can never be compared with anything else because mothers make the family special. not only on certain days of the year but everyday. how often do you express your love to your moms anyway, just once a year? makes me wonder too...

my birthday is not today but i have celebrated it with my wifey and my dad already. we dined in rai rai Ken, my treat, and the supermarket, dad's treat. Yay! it's a perfect Sunday and being with the closest people in your life is priceless. on my next birthday, somebody will greet me with stares or baby words and i'll hear her telling me, daddy, happy birthday and i love you! now, that's something to look forward to!

before i end this blog post, i would just like to tell the world that i'm ever thankful to my wifey and that i love her with my life! words are not enough to express my gratitude to her. i love you, beh! :p

goodnight everyone!

online accounts delight!

This era can indeed be considered as the computer age when children's past time which once were the likes of tumbang preso and syato are replaced with online gaming such as CounterStrike and the popular Defense of the Ancients, or simply labeled as DOTA. Even kids in the nursery level who get lucky to study in some private schools are being introduced to the concept of computers with some computer activities that aid their early education.

Pinoys aren't left behind when it comes to "online activities". TRIVIA: who gave Friendster the highest traffic...? none other than the Pinoys! I myself used to have a Friendster account and it was good while it lasted.

the social networking site has gained popularity among its users and personally, i used it to locate my long lost classmates in high school. it was just too amazing to find classmates in grade school, too! Friendster reunited people across the globe. A feat that paved way to the existence of several other social networking sites.

Facebook now seems to be the favorite among online social networkers. Most people i know who stopped updating their Friendster profiles have switched to Facebook which, for new users, will stun you with it's very numerous applications. One who is determined to pace up with Facebookers must be patient enough to get through all the registration process (which all online accounts require) and study it's how-to's. slowly but surely, one will enjoy Facebooking.

i have switched from Friendster to Facebook. where people are, then social networking becomes more useful. agree?

Of course there is blogging. this is probably my longest online hobby, way back year 2002 when my favorite online message board, PinoyExchange dot com, offered their blog-like service labeled as PExPlus Private. I managed to scribble a good number of entries until its services expired and then i was introduced to blogger dot com, where my first ever official blog page was published.

still up and running for over six years now, this blog has been my life stories' haven. this is also where i learned some basics of html and where i reached out to my friends through writing. i know i used to have a lot of passion in writing and maybe it's what's keeping this blog alive. i have tried to organize my blog postings and came up with a couple more blogs. another one hosted by blogger where i narrated and recorded my "spiritual life", and the other hosted by Xanga dot com.

(a glimpse of my "spiritual blog" which was retained private, and was shared only to a few people)

the latter host was discovered by yours truly only in year 2003 when i went back to the east coast... most people there (majority were teenagers) were using xanga, which offers a more user-friendly interface when updating blogs. and since i don't want the same stuffs published on two different web pages, i decided to let my xanga account live by posting some nice thoughts and messages being sent to me either in my email or mobile phone inbox. hence its sub-title, "egg and corn soup for the soul."

as the popularity of blogging spread throughout the world, some geniuses were able to come up with the idea of micro-blogging. as of this writing, we have one popular micro-blogging all over the world and this is Twitter. oopss... i may stand corrected because here in Manila, it seems that Plurk overtook Twitter in terms of popularity. I have an account for each micro-blogging sites:

even if these two sites are of similar type, i see to it that i publish different updates at all time. for one, i don't see any relevance of maintaining two different accounts with the same contents EVERY UPDATE. maybe it is also the reason why i don't link blog updates to other (same) web service, say, blog post from blogger to be linked to a multiply blog. speaking of Multiply dot com, i also maintain an account there, primarily to serve as my online photo album:

Interestingly, i believe i have different "audience" for each account that i own. that somehow distinguishes my posts for each account. whenever i post to a certain account, i know who my target "audience" are. each account represents a different character. when updates have ceased, it might not be the end of everything... just the online life.

(above-image is my i dot ph blog account--- one of my supposedly most loved domain name but due to lack of "content" or subject, it has frozen to date.)

“I guess I just missed boxing,”
“Somebody’s got to keep the sport up and running. Why not me?”
“I’m still the biggest draw in boxing,”
“Everybody wants to fight me because they know I’m the cash cow.”
“I left on top, and I came back on top,”
“I’m here to fight and reclaim what’s mine.”

"While Mayweather plays the villain with great success, Pacquiao comes across as a humble fighter who cares about nothing except doing his job, then getting together with his band as he did after stopping Hatton to make some music."
