Goblin Valley with the Davises

At the end of May we went with our friends the Davises to Goblin Valley. I grew up camping at Goblin Valley regularly, and it always felt like the most magical place. I was excited to show it to the kids for the first time since Ellie was little and I was pregnant with Miriam. I knew the Davises hadn't ever been so I thought it would be fun to go see it with them too. It was fun! But to be honest I wish I hadn't invited them. Not that it wasn't great to hang out, but it stressed me out when their kids didn't seem to be having a good time, or when Darcy said something thoughtless to Nathan. I think they had a good time, but I don't know that they had a great time. And I wish I could have just focused on our little family and enjoyed it for what it was. Oh well, live and learn.
We were able to plan this trip far enough in advance that we could get a nice spot in the campground. I love that the kids could climb and explore even in the campground. We could get pretty high up on the cliffs, and it only took a couple of years off my life to see the kids up so high with no adults to help keep them safe.
Unfortunately it was pretty hot for the two days we were there. We got some humidifying fans that helped a lot, but we didn't really have a place to charge them so we tried to conserve power.
Sometimes it is hard to not focus on what went didn't go ideally, but in reality it was a fun trip. The goblins are fun to explore. We found shade to eat lunch in. We had a great time eating dinner together at the campground. On the last day we had a nice little devotional in a cave and even enjoyed some overcast skies. The kids loved playing in goblins. Darcy kept calling them castles. And no one got hurt, which felt like a miracle at times. I love when we would go exploring and find different pathways to different areas.

The first evening we went over at sunset to explore the goblins close by the parking lot. Such pretty light.

Castles!

These were the cliffs by our campsite.

Our camp is below us!

Classic Goblin Valley pose!

What a cool place!

We found some shade!

The little caves are so fun!

Cute Brielle!

Looks like a sea monster!

It was toasty! Look at those red cheeks!

I love this photo.

The mama with a lot of dust on her shorts. :)

The Davises brought their tent trailer which was so cool. I love seeing our kids hang out, and being able to hang out with Erica. They are so great.

And the stars are just magic down there.
