We had a laid back weekend round here, which was nice. One thing that I had really been looking forward to was a Food Truck Festival here in Little Rock. We planned to go and met several friends there. However, by the time we got there, food was scarce - it had been much more popular than they imagined. So, since we had 5 children (and three strollers), we decided to move on, and go to Plan B - The Flying Fish. However, the line there was crazy long, and again, we had all those children and strollers with us. After tossing around a few more ideas, we ended up going with Plan F. And it turned out to be delightful.
Pizza picnic by the river. The weather was perfect (thank you, fall), and the company fantastic! (Thank you, Henrys and Murdocks.)
The kiddos had a joyous time, since they were all together and outdoors and could run freely and yell loudly. And baby Taylor could sleep soundly.
As we were driving home, John commented that we don't have many evenings like this anymore. Evenings where we have to think on the fly, and what we end up doing is more fun and better than the original plan, because of things we could not have foreseen. We decided that a lot of that is because we choose to be more planned with kids. We want to know what we are doing and how to plan for it. Did we have napkins or plates for our pizza picnic? No. Did it all turn out just fine? Yes. I want to be open to life and unexpected gifts of joy, which can't happen if I am so stuck on my own agenda. Lessons in flexibility that pay off well - that is what happened this weekend.
