It's Summer!

I feel like I have been waiting on summer for FOREVER!  I don't know about you but the end of the school year is hard and long and filled with stuff and makes me want summer to hurry up and get here.  This is my kid's first week off for summer and so far it has been filled with pool time and hanging out.  It's nice.  And we needed it.

Summer mostly to me is about the beach.  Ahhh...  I love the beach.  And this year it is even better because we have two beach trips planned.  One in June and one in July.  I can't tell you how excited I am and the countdown is posted and reviewed daily!

So in anticipation of my be achy summer...

I took this picture over Mother's Day weekend this year.  Maybe that was just the kickoff for summertime for me.  The page is simple.  I used the May Jenni Bowlin kits.  I am down to bits and pieces of these kits left, but used the Heidi Swapp stencils from the Historian Add On and some spray ink as the main way to create this page.  It was a perfect way to keep my page colorful yet simple so the awesome photo really jumped off the page.  I think this will be the first page in my summer 2014 album.

So what summer plans do you have this year?

Life's a Beach..

Hi, it's Gina here sharing a layout of a one of our many holiday snaps from last summer. I've used items found in three June JBS kits; the Papercrafting, Artisan and Historian Add-ons. As you can see I've had a lot of fun creating the background on this one. I've used the left over sticker sheet from the Papercrafting kit as a frame work for some misted paper scraps. The stars were created using the Mercantile exclusive scattered stars stencil also from the Papercrafting kit.

I've stencilled both positive and negative star images by spraying through the stencil and also printing with the excess ink left of the surface.

and to highlight the colours I've mounted the sticker sheet with some bright aqua cardstock.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your week has been a creative one so far!

Summer Weather

Summer just isn't summer without a little sunshine, and perhaps, an afternoon shower here or there. Whatever the season, I think it's fun to document the weather and the activities it inspires us to do.

Most summers, we beat the heat by hanging out in the pool. I used a disposable underwater camera to capture this shot of my son. The seals on the seal grid stencil remind me of little suns. I pulled out my gelli plate and paints to create this fun print. The colors were very intense ( just like sunshine) so I kept the rest of the layout simple with a few Vintage Sew-on buttons, chevron paper tape and the star flatback.

We do get a lot of afternoon rainstorms. I love walking in the rain with my son. I used to walk with my grandparents in the rain. Sometimes, the rain would be pouring down while the sun was shining through the grey clouds. They called it liquid sunshine. The grey doilies in the Wren collection reminded me of clouds. I added some scraps from the Modern Mercantile line to represent the sunshine and blue skies peaking through the storm. I found the doily in a thrift shop. I love mixing in thrift store finds with my JBS Mercantile supplies.

For whatever reason, I never seem to find any good bits or baubles at the thrift shop. I usually end up buying one of Jenni's Embellishment tins. Every tin is a surprise. In my last tin, I got some little gold birds and awesome rhinestone bits. The little bits are just perfect for adding a little bit of sparkle to my layouts.

Weather is definitely a big part of my family's summer stories? It guides our daily activities and sometimes, leads us to special moments of quiet. How does the weather guide what you do? Have you documented it? I'd love for you to share some of your summer weather stories over in the JBS Mercantile community.

New!

Hello there friends, Elizabeth here!
Today I wanted to share a layout I created for one of our summer activities! The 4th of July is one of my all time favorite holidays. I was even more excited to use my very favorite products from JBS in making this layout too!

There are lots of new things going on in my life and I couldn't wait to document this 4th as part of that! My new marriage, our new move, and 4th of July with a wonderful large family too!

What I love most about my fav's from JBS is layering! I love the fact that I can mix & match items together and they all go even if there are different themes throughout.

I liked using the punch and the note card for something other than what I would normally use it for and I turned the paper upside down to make the edge on top instead of the bottom!

That's what so wonderful about scrapping, you can create using your fav's with all the new things happening in your life too!
