Useful Google tips - 2

I have posted some useful google tips in my blog already. You can very well find it out here. Since i was bored to type, dint continue with it and now i thought of continuing it. So, here are the other useful google tips.

Get your day's schedule in Mobile
For this, you have to set up your mobile with google calendar. This can be found under Settings -> Mobile. Once you have set your mobile, just send a message "day" to the number 48368 and you will be notified with your day's schedule.

More Reading Space
If you feel the left sidebar of gmail annoying or feel like need space, just press the U key and you will see the sidebar removed. To bring back the sidebar on, just press the U key again.

Send EXE files
Google has always been concerned about protecting its users computer from viruses. Sometimes this cautionary approach of google surely annoys us especially if we want to mail a friend some .exe files, .dll files etc. Even if we zip it and send google finds it out. To avoid this, just change the extension of the filename to something like .txt, attach and send the file. And ask your email receiver to change it back to .exe or whatever after downloading the attachment.

Search your emails
With a huge mail space provided by Gmail, a lots of email gets cluttered in our inbox and if we want a specific email to look up on, then you can use the search option in gmail. You can narrow down your search by specifying "to:, from:, subject:" etc. And also using "labels:, after:, before: " if you want to search between certain dates.

Google presentations
If you work on presentations in Google docs, then you can directly publish it on webpages using the code generated to embed in the webpage. You can also save it as a pdf file to send it to others.

How much do you read?
Are you having the habit of reading news from RSS? Then find out how much you have read with the help of Google Reader which provides info on RSS subscriptions, what all you have read, shared, emailed etc.

Advanced Search
Google's advanced search spells out all operators, wildcards, restrictions and more you can use while searching.

Alright, hope this is enough for now. Just few tips remaining and i'll post them later. If you want some other Gmail Tips, check it out here.

Beat the heat

Its the time of mid summer in chennai and the temperatures have already crossed 100 degrees. Its very very hot and people stay inside home and offices and find a high time to beat the heat. Here are some tips on how to take care of yourselves in this summer.

  • Strenuous activities should be reduced, eliminated or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day. Individuals at risk should stay in the coolest available places.
  • Wear suitable dresses for the summer. Lightweight, lightcolored clothing reflects heat and sunlight and helps your body maintain its temperature.
  • Foods like proteins that increase metabolic heat production should be reduced.
  • drink plenty of water or other non alcoholic beverage. You may probably go for natural fluids such as fruit juices, coconut, buttermilk etc. Donot take salt tablets unless directed by a physician.
  • Stay more time in air conditioned places. If u cant afford air conditioner, spending some time each day in an air conditioned environment affords some protection.
  • Avoid too much sun. Sun burn makes the job of heat dissipation that much more difficult. So, please avoid sun.
  • If u had to go out in the sun, then always take a cap and a bottle of water with you to maintain your body fluids.

Beauty tip - How to remove make-up?

Here are some important tips to keep in mind while removing make up.

Start by removing your eye make up, mascara specially the waterproof one, can be very difficult to remove as it is designed for staying power. An excellent solution for this is baby shampoo. Apply it to a cotton ball or to your finger tips, close your eyes and carefully rub downward on the lashes. Repeat for few times but do not stretch the delicate skin around the eye. You could also use wet wipes for the same but never use regular makeup remover on the eyes.

Use a good face cleanser for the rest of your face. Avoid using soap unless unless it is specially designed for the face.

Another option to remove facial make up is by using baby oil. A majority of cosmetics are oil - soluble and this makes baby oil an excellent solution to get rid of traces of eye make up, blush and foundation. simply apply a little bit of baby oil to a tissue and gently wipe all over the face until the makeup is gone. You dont even need to use soaps after this, just rinse your face with cool water.

However, if you have used make up remover, rinse your face with lukewarm water to remove all traces of the cleanser. Rinse your face a number of times and dry it off with towel.

Toning of skin is a very important step. Lavishly use oil free astringents, ones appropriate for you skin type. Apply it with a cotton ball and wipe till clean. Toners are very important as they remove traces of make up, oil and dirt that cleansers may have missed. Toners also work to reduce pores, eliminate oil and refine skin.

Now that you have successfully removed all your make up, make sure you follow up this procedure with moisturising your skin. This step is just as important as the rest of the procedure.

Top 4 Gadgets for your car

Car freaks doesnt go mad for driving their cars at top speed but also to give their car a head on the latest gadgets available. With a lots and lots of goodies available for the cars, the most popular gadgets that every car freak would like to have are very few. These goodies may sound common to people in foreign countries, but in India these are add ons that one would like to have in their car. If you are from outside India, you could very well forget this post.

4.Power Windows
After all who wishes to work out their biceps inside the car by rolling the window crankers up and down. Motorised windows are now almost standard, in most mainstream production cars with only the cheapest city cars and budget runarounds having wind up windows these days.

3.Parking Sensors
We still remember laughing our heads off at new learners, elderly aunties and the hopeless cases that made use of parking sensors. But using a beeper to reverse without craning the neck a bit was too good a tech to miss. Squeezing into tiny gaps and snaking through curvy bylanes ws never easier. These sensors are not found in Indian cars.

2.Music Player
Who doesn't like to ride with a heart bumping bass on a highway? With the state of the art music players with replete speaker sets, car freaks like to keep entertained on the move.

1.Satellite Navigation
In India, GPS hasn't been widely implemented as in other foreign countries. For those as yet uninitiated in car terminology, this locator device takes a fix on the car's position, speed and direction of travel from satellite and directs you to the destination road by road. More advanced versions use 3D on a large display screen.

Well, if you own a car, and any of these top gadgets are missing, think of giving yourself one.

Narnia Prince Caspian - Movie review

Cast : Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Anna Popplewell
Director : Andrew Adamson

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which was released few years back was a massive hit and here comes the part two of the movie. The kids return to the wonderland via a London tube. When they get into the wonderland, 1300 years have passed by and as usual the baddies have taken on the kingdom. Azlan, the lion has disappeared and King Miraz has forced the legitimate ruler Prince Caspian to flee into the forests. With his magical horn, he manages to call the Pevensies who pick up their swords, don their kingly grab and get down to some adult business. At the same time Lucy goes in search of Azlan while the other kids engage in the fierce battle with the King Miraz's troops. The Prince Caspian's troop was helped by the magical creatures such as talking beaver, rats, dwarfs etc. Finally they defeat the King's troops and return back the kingdom to the prince.

With cutting edge graphics technology available in today no wonder the kingdom looks astonishingly real. With a mix of teen romance, the movie does has the thrills that make us sit on the seat edge. But it has just a fleeting glimpse of the wicked white witch. But still, its summer time and you need a reason to chill out and Narnia gives you the reason. A nice treat for kids this summer.

Instinct - will it compete with Apple's iPhone??

So, with nearly a year after the launch of Apple's iPhone, Samsung and Sprint have decided to deliver a competition, the Instinct. The Instinct is bigger in size when compared with iPhone both in height and thickness and uses a resistive display ( iPhone uses capacitive display ). The Instinct provides much more options than iPhone such as mobile broadband, GPS, support for third party applications such as java etc. These may sound interesting but we can only judge how far the Instinct outwits the iPhone only after its launch. So, lets wait for the Instinct.

Cholera in Chennai

Yesterday was the release of a new newspaper for chennai, The Times of India. Though this paper has been introduced in other major cities of the country, it took some time to establish itself in the city of Chennai. I was eagerly awaiting for the first release of the newspaper as its promo titled "New Anthem of India" was wonderful and inspiring. But our paper boy took a half on that day, and gave us only the regular tamil newspaper. With a disappointment, i had to ready the same old death news in the tamil paper yesterday.

But today, it was my day. When i woke up, first thing i saw was the Time of India paper lying on the table. I took it enthusiastically and on the cover page what i read was, the CM being questioned on water quality in Chennai city. The following page warned the Chennai locales regarding the spreading of Cholera in the city. So, i thought of getting more info on Cholera, its symptoms and ways to prevent it. These are the info which i got from the net.

Cholera is an bacterial disease, Vibrio Cholerae the name of the bacteria causing the disease. The disease spreads through water and mainly contaminated or impure water. The symptoms of Cholera are extreme diarrhoea with great lost of body fluids. Fever may also be witnessed as a result of secondary infection. The only way to treat the disease is to compensate for the loss of fluids from the water. We know very well that Prevention is better than cure. Ways to prevent cholera are Boiling the drinking water, maintaining clean habits and habitats etc.

Though my inputs on cholera are very few, a detailed info is given in wikipedia. Please follow the link for more information on Cholera. So, Drink safe water and live safe.

Same blood from 700 ears!!!

Uffffffffff!!!!! I still hear a "GOYING" sound in my ears. Courtesy : My college management. Today is our so called OFFER LETTER DISTRIBUTION function for the placed students and it was said that 354 have been placed for the 2008 batch. So i guess around 350( including staffs )might have present for the function.

Before that, while leaving for college in the morning my mom asked me to eat idlies and go. But i said her that i would be having my lunch by 11.40 and could control my hunger till then.

We all entered the audiotorium so quickly so that we could occupy the seats at the back and you surely know the my intention, talking and sleeping if the function bores us. Unfortunately, our GANG was separated when the co-ordinators asked us to sit company wise. Not knowing where my colleagues are sitting, i asked one of the staff "Sir, Where should the TCS people sit?" and he asked me to go front. I went to the front and found seat only at 2nd row right in front of the dignitaries. Everything was going against my wish and was thinking of how to pass through that session.

Then came the dignitaries and occupied the dais. The function started with prayer song and a girl with sweet voice sang a beautiful song but i couldn't understand anything. After that song, it was our famous staff who gave the welcome address starting in his own style "Dear Dear Student friends" [ Naanga avaruku friends aaaama?? Enna kodumai saravanan idhu ]. He is know for hourly lectures he dint show any courtesy on us. NON STOP NAKKA MUKKA. Then came the top most person of the management. He started of in a pleasent tamil vocabulary and his speech was funny and enlightning. The comments he passed would sound mokkai to most of the guys and still he managed to bring out some smile in our faces. But the way he expressed his ideas was somewhat unacceptable which showed his dominating character. But still, he is older than us and we have to listen to it. How i managed to sit this lecture was due to my friend's comments sitting at my back. Thanks to barath for making me kill my time so some extent.

Then the chief guest, Ms. Sumuki addressed us and then the offer letter distribution ceremony started and it went on for about an hour. By this time, we all were exhaushted of listening to excess advices and non stop clapping and I started to get hungry. I thought after the ditribution, it would be thanks giving. But there came another personnel of the management who has been sitting like a newly joined child in kindergarden. He resembles the tamil director T.P.Gajendran ( Remember "Nan nikkuren nan nikkuren" comedy from the movie Ivan ? ) He started his comedy speech and said something which neither could understand. What i felt on seeing him was, may be the podium should have been altered to his height. When all these were going in my mind, he suddenly started to sing " Clap! Clap! Clap your hands!" and later only i realised that it was to applaud the placement cell for their outstanding achievement.

After this, i thought the ceremony was over and it wasn't. Then came the placement officer and she thanked everyone of those who were behind the scenes in achieving this and were distributed mementos. It doesnt end there, the top most person again grabbed the mic and start his second innings and this time his stove was not at sim. It was burning high with mega mokkais and my stomach was burning with hunger. And after all these sufferings, finally the announcement came "Pls stand for National Anthem" and there came my life. Proudly singing the National Anthem, vidu jooootu straight to canteen.

Nungambakkam

It is almost the same time as yesterday and i am feeling dizzy after a heavy dinner. Courtesy: Naren for his birthday treat at the Dabba in Nungambakkam. This place is known for some of the best things in the city namely

  • Taj Coromendel - The best 5 Star hotel in the city
  • MOP Vaishnav college - One of the women college in the city which has some cool and sexy girls.
  • Ishphani Center - One of the best in class shopping mall. And again guys visit here to have a nice treat to the eyes.

As i was aware of only the above mentioned three things at Nungambakkam, i wished to know more about the place and started to google on it. The results which i got were truly astonishing. Here are a few of my findings.

Nungambakkam has been a part of Chennai for more than 2 centuries.

Apart from MOP Vaishnav college there is another gals college, the Womens Christian College, which is also well known for its beautiful gals and their all round performances in most of the cultural events.

And above all there is another famous institute which has produced the most talented people the world have seen such as Actor Vijay ( may be he is an exception ), Actor Vikram etc. ( The list is very big and so i keep it up to two ). Yes, your guessing is right. It is the LOYOLA College. It comes under the Nungambakkam area.

Talking about Loyola college, another thing flashes in my mind which i have read a couple of weeks ago in the tamil magazine Kumudam. It is all about Prostitution in the roads of Nungambakkam ( the roads name is not mentioned for some obvious reasons ) which is near to the Loyola college. Prostitution near an educational institute?? Shocking isn't it?? Well that is Chennai for you.

With all the above mentioned points if you people are interested to know more about Nungambakkam, follow the links.
