Deco Art Blogger - Halloween wall hanging

My first Deco Arts Blogger post!!

I wanted to create a Halloween wall hanging using a Gelli print background and I wanted to experiment with some different paints to see how they worked together.

Deco Art Paints:
Americana Neons - Thermal Green
Dazzling Metallics - Royal Ruby
Americana Frost Gloss Enamels - Black
Paper Effects -Black Pearl
Bright Accents - Gloss Acrylic, black

The metallic and neon paint did exceptionally well together. The metallic subdued the neon a little bit but still leaving enough of it to pop out without being obtrusive to the overall design. The frost glass paint applied well but was a little harder to clean off the gelli plate, but still highly doable.

I fell in love with the Paper Effects Writer with it's dual tip. The fine tip was excellent for writing words and for fine detailing. I did make sure to clean the tip well before storing it.

I used the Paper Effects 2 ways along the border. I doodled a fine line and squiggly marks using the tip, and went back and added larger drops using just the bottle's tip. I also love my little spider, I set him up on the Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dot Adhesive for some dimension and used glossy accents over his body. The stem of the broom was painted with the Neon Green and Deco Arts Bright Accents in black.

This great little wood accent from Prima was balanced on top of the broom using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. This is a favorite use of this specialty glue, fixing odd pieces in hard to hold areas. I love, love, LOVE this stuff!

I used the neon green on the broom by brushing it lightly on top.

I think one of the favorite parts about the gelli print background was using my kitchen utensils ( better used here than in the kitchen! Can you tell I don't cook much any more?) It's small plastic thingy ( technical term ) with sharp edges that I raked through the paint in a wavy pattern. It gave me a defined writing line to follow which I appreciated since I always have a problem keeping my lines straight!

Products used and enjoyed:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, Liquid Scrap Dots, Craft & Hobby PVA Glue
Prima - Anna Marie Wood Embellishment
Gelli Plate 12x 14

Paper Playtime - Red, Yellow, Blue

Ch# 20 Yellow, Red, and Blue
Begins: Monday, Sept 30
Ends: Sunday, Oct 13
Prize: $10 Gift Certificate
I freely admit that I struggled with this color combination at first. But I grew to love it as I played around with it. Do you ever have certain colors that you have issues with? For me, it is the color yellow, I rarely use it on anything, but maybe I should rethink that, huh?

(OK, here is my confession about the stamped image!! ) HA!

gingerly: adjective

very cautious or careful

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many of you know that I live in a small apartment which means space is a premium commodity so I have discovered that redecorating the same wreath base means a lot of saved space. One wreath form, and many little bags of embellishments or ribbon to change it out for the seasons.
So this is the summer wreath that has come down:

And yes, I am a matchy kind of decorator, so my wreaths not only tie into the rug at the front door but to the aqua walls in the stairwell.

And my new Fall wreath:

Notice the aqua eyes?

So you can see how I used the summer wreath form to create my little fall owl wreath here in this slide show if you want :)

caveat: noun

 an explanation to prevent misinterpretation

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So you may, or may not have noticed my absence  from blogging for past week. Ever since I returned home from vacation my life has been a whirlwind of activity.

My big announcement though is this:

I am so excited because I have wanted to be on this team for 3 years, that's trying out twice a year during that time, yep, 6 times. The reason that I share this tidbit of past failures with you my friends is to remind you to never give up, to persevere through and keep trying. I know first hand how hard hearing the word 'no' is, but never, ever give up on your dreams!

I got a commission for a card, delivering it today to the Art MoB.

entering it into:
Seize the Birthday - Anything Goes
Fantabulous Cricut - Challenge #178 ABC's 123's

I added some outlining with a pen around the letters and shadowed a bit with the stain to hopefully get the letters to pop out a bit. Also embossed the edge to the circle for a little grunge effect.

Faber Castell - PITT pen

Try it on Tuesday - Handmade Flowers

Challenge 10th September - Hand made flowers

Trying a new adventure for the Art MoB, making prayer journals. If they don't sell, then I'll donate them to the children's Christmas fund, but hopefully someone will like them.

First, I traced ( yes, ::gasp:: traced ) the flowers onto the painted cover. Then colored in the flowers with acrylic paint. Next, I traced a couple of the flowers onto a light orangey-yellow card stock and fussy cut them out. After adhering them onto the cover I covered them with stickles and while wet, slightly bent the edges of the petals upward and let them dry curled. I added 3 different size gems, one into the center of each flower.

Helmar - 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, Gemstone Glue
Ranger - Distress Paint, stickles, liquid pearls
Dylusions White Linen
( loving this white spray, it shows up on everything, even on top of yellow! )

First I used a brayer to coat the cover of the journal, ( I didn't want complete coverage, I love the Kraft paper showing through ) next using a stencil with paint, which I then outlined with a pearl paint. The Lord's Prayer was stamped on Kraft paper and then cut out, painted and also outlined with pearl paint.

I think one of my favorite parts on my art journals are the small bull nose clips that I add a cross to. I believe that the small cross embellishment makes a big impact. You might notice a small dot of Helmar 450  Quick Dry Adhesive over the opening of the ring, it helps assure that it won't open and let the cross slide off by accident.

I had to make a quick card today because their birthday is tomorrow...well, today as you are reading this. I don't know about you, but a sketch, new products to play with and a little inspiration goes a long way!

I won some Creative Inspiration paints the other week and this was the first time that I got to sit down and play with them. The tree and the leaves are all painted in with the shimmery paints; with the leaves, scarecrow and crow being outlined with a glaze pen and the tree trunk outlined with a pearl pen.

I used my FAVORITE adhesive to pop up the leaves under the scarecrows feet!

I used netting and some ink stained lace to create a shabby look. The netting is held down with hand stitching and left loose around the edges. I added the candle sticker on top of the pumpkin sticker and added a raffia bow to the candle. One of my favorite things is taking stickers and combining them and embellishing them!

To really keep the sticker secured to the netting I used Helmar's 450 to ensure that it stays right where I want it too!

I took the digi image and enlarged it for my horizontal card, knowing that it would pixelate but I had planned on outlining it with liquid pearls anyway. I also added an extra outline of stickles to make sure the original inked outline wouldn't show. I gave it a shot of Goosebumps too so when I inked in his color, he would have even more texture.

Coral was the hardest color to come up with, so at first I mixed stickles together but it wasn't quite right until I added a gelato layer over the stickles on the beak and feet, I love the yummy layers of yellow, orange and melon to get a wonderful coral color.

Frosted Designs - Chipboard challenge

Hi everyone, it's time for a little Frosted Designs Monday inspiration to get you motivated to enter our weekly challenge, which is CHIPBOARD!!  You can get some great inspiration to get you motivated, here, here, here, and of course here! No excuses now, go play!

I used my Cricut to cut out the heart and inserted the spider's thread into one of the openings and secured it with dry tape and then glued the heart onto the paper. The spider is lifted up just a notch just to bring it up to the same level height as the chipboard. I also added a smidgen of black gelato around the outside edge of the spider web for a little shadowy effect.

I used my paper trimmer to cut strips of chipboard for the border around the card. Painting it with black acrylic paint and then coating the border strips with crackle for a little more spooky interest.

OK, so I messed up, but sometimes I get too excited about an element and skip a step I had planned to do! :( In this case I meant to run my sky pattern paper through the printer for the sentiment but just got too darn happy over the bear and the balloons and next thing you know they were adhered to the paper!! I really hate it when I do that, but I persevered onward anyway, I simply wasn't going to waste the paper or the time I had put into the making of the bear.

I masked off the "s" in hugs and used the stamped sentiment from the set.

I love to paper piece so I had a lot of fun withe bear. ( As I can attest with the above confession ) He has 3 layers, the original dark brown polka dot, then his lighter dot muzzle and then another layer for the body which I snipped off parts ( the back ear, the tail and the back leg ) so that I could get a little dimension into him. Added some glossy accents to his nose and tied the balloons around him and set him free to fly!

But I just love how happy this little pup looks with the balloon hanging onto his tail, he looks like he is very excited to be celebrating a child's birthday!
I added a little glossy accents to his tongue for shine and a small dollop of LSD under the tip of his tail to hold it up for some dimension! That's the best part of LSD, how you add the tinniest bit under the smallest pieces and it never shows! I really do love this stuff!

I printed out the image and then cut away the sack and placed my kitten in the grass instead. I love the balloon string caught in his paw, I think he had chased it down and is it now his! I cut up along his front paw so that I could slide it out over the grass and his tail has a small dollop of LSD to keep it propped up.
Just for kicks and giggles, I decided to play around with 3 of my white stickles, to see side by side the difference in them. I uses Diamond around the edge of the balloon, Frosted Lace on the big circles and Star Dust on the small dots. It was a fun experiment. Can you tell the difference? Not so easy on this lavender paper, will have to try this again on black paper.
