Frosted Designs kit reveal - Capture the Moment

Hi everyone, today I am over on the Frosted Designs blog with my last post on the Paper Kit team. I created a huge ( for me ) canvas which I made for my upcoming show in August. I am having a blast painting these big canvases, so much room to do things on; like the silver leafed spoon. I used DecoArts Paper Effects , a thick dimensional writer and Ranger's Liquid Pearls which has a much finer application.

I also have some exciting news too, I'll be designing my own mixed media kits for Frosted Designs! But shhhh....it's a secret that will be revealed next month! :)

**********Enabler Alert*********

I AM IN CHARGE

March 30 - I am in charge day

OK, are you ready to want another tool? Well, this is just AWESOME.  The new Tim Holtz DistressMarker Spritzer Tool...only buy this is you want fine directed sprays of inks....like duh, who DOESN'T want that?? No blobbing or big splats, just fine little tiny dots!!! OH MY...this has now become my favorite play toy!!

My title and journaling came from page 126 in Joanne's book. I knew that writing with a pipette was something I would want to do. I did a sketchy outline of the letters and then inked around them with Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise and Squeezed Orange inks. I tried to loosen up my handwriting and wrote as fast as I could so it might look more artistic, lol

Thank you Vickie L. for letting me use the Dylusions Ruby Rainbow stamp, done on tissue paper and fussy cut out. She is colored in with PITT pens and then a sketchy outline was created around her.

I was watching Terri Sproul the other night and she was doing an image transfer using a gel medium. It seems I have been seeing magazine transfers everywhere, maybe they are making a comeback? This one was done in 2 parts, the bottom ½ being one and the black ominous clouds above it done in a second session. I love the whole spooky scene.

Journaling and outlining created with my Sakura Gelly Roll, Signo white pen. Page sprayed with Helmar Crystal KOTE Varnish.

Charcoal

Compressed burned wood used for drawing

----------------------------------------------------------
Here is my cover page for The Art of Whimsical Lettering with Joanne Sharpe online class. It's free if you have her new book :) I am using an old calender for my journal, that way I can hang it up to look at when I need the inspiration!

One of the highlights to my design was writing Joanne's name inside the spoon, and then wouldn't you know it....I had forgotten to add the e on the end of her name...lol So I had to go back and squeeze it in and added the small flower on the other side to hopefully balance it out.

The most tedious part was using a stencil to create the alphabet soup in the background, I had to make myself finish it cause I was bored, bored, bored. I have discovered I love the conceptual part of designing however I don't like coloring it in.

Bright brush

Refers to a brush that has the same shape as a “flat” however the hairs are not as long as those on the flat brush.
----------------------------------------------------------

The Journal52 prompt for week 7 is
I did end up 50 years later actually doing something art related which had been a childhood fantasy job, so I am living out one of my dreams....but I also like most children had multiple thoughts on the subject of what I envisioned I could become. I ghost journaled all those jobs and dreams...don't see them, well, hang on and you will!

The art brush symbolizes my art, selling it at the Art Mob has been a dream come true for me. I have been successfully doing it for over a year now and loving every minute of it!

Each set of words are written 3 different ways. The largest is my title " In the end I just became me", and the pink ink flows out from the heart surrounding the words with the negative spaces not colored in, then we have the background circles saying "I am a work in progress", both written in all capitals but 2 things differ....first the circles go clockwise and counter clockwise. All the writing going clockwise have white colored in the negative spaces and those going counter clockwise are colored in with black ink. Still not seeing the under journaling??.....you will....promise...lol

Next the heart is more solid and serene for while I am a work in progress
( probably until the day I die ) I am happy and content where my life has lead me, so I wanted the heart to look peaceful and not cluttered, also not finished because there is always room in my heart for more.

And now for the surprise under journaling, something I didn't mean to happen this way, but sometimes it happens when we aren't expecting it. I wrote with my Faber Castell Big Stamp pen over the layer of inks and gesso and it kinda sunk in and dissappeared, well, that is until the light hits the page just right and then, BAM....!!

Seriously, almost kinda freaky, really! Here's a close up

Fun prompt with unexpected results!

Sundays with Sandee - whisper those 3 little words I want to hear

This was such a fun page to do and although I didn't mean to find a quote that had 3's in it, it just happened....and it made me happy! Simpatico!!

Love, love, love the moon and the owl ♥

The best thing about working with a pipette is how it really frees my style up, I mean you simply cannot be stiff when you have only a limited amount of control. Pipettes are also real good at making ink splatters too.

I really enjoy painting with inks, I think they are very favorite medium. I do spray all my inked pages with Helmar Crystal Kote Varnish to protect them and it really brings out the layers too.

I hope you play along, pick out 3 favorite things and make whatever you want. As always if you want to copy my work, I am more than flattered, I am honored. If you want to see the video of my making the page, then feel free to pop on over to the Frosted Design blog, we love to have you visit.

Shades of Spring Frosted Designs kit

We have our first kit challenge over on the Frosted Designs blog. With everyone buying our gorgeous kits we have decided it's time to reward the kit buyers with a special challenge all for them!

It's a recipe challenge:
(Remember, you only have to use THREE or more... not all of them!!!!)
White Gel Pen (GREAT for faux stitching!)
At least ONE of the Distress Inks (Lemon and Raspberry included!)
At least ONE of the wood veneer pieces
The color PINK
At least ONE sticker (Full sheet included!)

I started out with an old scented tag.

Which I covered with the pattern paper on one side and added all my wonderful embellishments that came with the Shades of Spring kit. ( The heart bead and paper streamers did not come in the kit, but it's so cute and was just a perfect addition. )

I added some water to the KaiserCraft flower and then just touched the tips of the wet petals to the Distress ink and let it wick into the paper. After it was dry I added glue to the tips of the petals and dunked it into the jar of ( Distress glitter, from the Love is in the Air kit )

I covered the veneer bird with the Picked Rasberry Distress ink and a little bit of white paint. The parts of the Basic Grey Enjoy sticker that hangs over the edge have baby powder on it to keep it from being sticky. I also outlined the sticker with one of my Sakura Magna drawing pens.

I covered the back side with the Ranger Juniper Dauber and then a layer of Crackle paint. The To and From were stamped on using a Fiskars stamp set.

I really love Crackle Paint! The texture is amazing!

Approximate symmetry

The use of forms which are similar on either side of a central axis. They may give a feeling of the exactness or equal relationship but are sufficiently varied to prevent visual monotony.

( My circle would be the central axis of my card with the footprints in approximate symmetry. )

Jan. 26-Feb. 1 Designer Drafts challenge

I stamped the footprints first and then took my paper to the Cricut to cut out a 2½" hole. Used Ranger Distress paints to color the inside of the circle and then stamped the tent. I stamped the tent on pattern Love paper and paper pieced it together, free hand the sentiment. Inked lightly around the edge of the base.

Analogous colors

Any set of three or five colors that are closely related in hue(s). They are usually adjacent (next) to each other on the color wheel.

I believe for my piece I have chosen  2 tertiary colors and 1 primary color, I'll be honest, I never think about the color wheel when I choose my colors, I just pick colors I like together. Do you go by the color wheel first?

Acrylic paint

A fast-drying synthetic paint made from acrylic resin. Acrylic is a fast-drying water-based “plastic” paint valued for its versatility and clean up with soap and water.
=====================================================
You may have heard about my little Royal challenge, to make your own crown. Well, I so enjoyed making my crowns that I couldn't stop at 2, so here is my third one. I attached it to a recycled ribbon tube and made a tiny Treasure Keepsake box out of it.
Foil paper, flower, distress glitter and sentiment from the January Kit from Frosted Designs

The tube was painted with Deco Arts Metallic acrylic paint, boy, is it a smooth consistency! I just love the Ranger Distress Glitter, I sprinkled it on top of the lid and look.....awesome, huh?

The crown itself was made using Helmar's Fabric Stiffner & Draping Liquid which was formed around a ( pardon me ) toilet paper tube roll. The little seed beads come from the December Kit from Frosted Designs and were hand sewn on ( thank you Jamie for the magnifying glass for Christmas, just saying! ). The lace and gold band are misc. notions from JoAnns.

The inside of the box has a cute little saying...:) doodled with the Sakura pens and embellished with Ranger Liquid Pearls and stickles.

Accession

A process of increasing an art collection by addition; something added to what you already have (“the art collection grew through accession”).
================================================
Oh be still my beating heart, how I would love to get a one of a kind box of chocolates! This one happens to be a box of Godiva's that I wouldn't mind sinking my teeth into! I took a box of chocolates and altered the top with a vintage print and some inks and glazes.

After spraying my paper with Helmar Crystal Cote Gloss Varnish ( because my printer is a ink jet, and the ink would smear ), I then used my Sakura Glaze pens to color over the image.

I added some sweet vellum wings to the cupids for a little extra dimension.

I LOVE adding the Ranger Crackle Paint on top of everything to give it a real vintage feel to it. Look at all those yummy cracks ♥

I think the lace around the outside edge of the box is the perfect touch for any feminine lady.

also used:
Ranger stickles, distress stickles, and liquid pearls
