Wishing all my WOYWW ladies a happy day filled with lots of crafty goodness!

Here is my desk area...I have my "light area" set up to take a picture of some product. I wish I had a light box, well, sometimes I do anyway. I really don't have the space for it if I owned one. I have 2 pieces of white board taped together, which I prop up to use for photographing cards and small items. It works pretty well, considering what it is! lol

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed me about concerns from Hurricane Sandy. We all did pretty well here in the mountains, strong winds did some damage and we lost power some, but all in all we are very lucky compared to the people who live up north of us on the coast. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

I saved it for Halloween Day!

 

 

 I didn't have the tissue paper but I did have the Tim Holtz Tissue Tape - Symphony, so I used that, crumpled it up and spread some acrylic paint on it and did use a hand wipe to blend. Then sprayed it with my Tattered Angels glimmer mist. ( Now I did have the Ranger Perfect Pearls, but it hasn't been opened yet, I'm one to use up a product before opening a new one, and I still have some glimmer mist left...frugal...very frugal I am! )

I used the Cricut Craft Room to weld together the word BOO  ( from the CCR font ) and a spider web ( Happy Hauntings cartridge ) onto Tim Holtz's Grungepaper ( I really love this stuff!! ) I painted it black with Apple Barrel's acrylic, and then used my Ranger stickles , Black Diamond over it.

 I didn't like the spider that came with the web cut from Happy Hauntings ( it looked like a tick, not spider like at all, lol ) so I cut one from Cricut's Paper Trimmings, and repeated the same steps as the webbing. I also had to improvise for the ticket and used my Hero Arts - Calender stamp, to create the ticket and added a Reminisce word sticker. Last touch was the orange spider eyes...errrriiieeee...:)

I fell in love with the saying.....

 that was the easy part. This one was a struggle for me.

 

First I had hand stitched around the vellum and then I had hand lettered the sentiment

and. messed. up.

 It was not even.

 

 So I tore away the inside of the vellum, leaving the outside stitching in place. Filled the void in with black paint, then using Ranger's Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, I stamped a paisley design and embossed it. Placed an "eclectic" mix of lettering on top of that and then coated it with Delta Creamcoat Gloss Enamel. ( to make sure they stickers stay stuck! )

 

I recycled the moon from a box of Moon Pies, lol. Popped it and the stars up with some Helmars Liquid Scrap dots. Doodled on the moon with my Faber Castell Pitt Pens and used Ranger's stickles to decorate the moon and the stars. The stars were cut from Cricut's Doodlecharms cartridge.

I lined the edge where the vellum meets the paint with white yarn ( with Aleene's Tacky Glue ) and then covered the yarn with Ranger's stickles, just LOVE the look of that. Will have to use it again, looks like foam and still feels soft....well actually kinda crunchy soft, if there is such a thing!

Weather update:

This is day 3 of continuing wind....

Hurricane Sandy is still giving us sustained winds of 16 mph with gusts up to 38 mph. It's constant with no relief. Luckily last night we only had one power flicker, but flashlights have been pulled out and placed in strategic areas. I am lucky that my balcony faces the south direction so I haven't had to pull anything major from it. Clematis's bungee cord is secured and my big fern is not on it's usual hanger, but that's all I've had to do. We won't have ANY leaves left on the trees by Wednesday; it's cold....wondering if we will get any snow?

In retrospect, I needed to turn my stocking the other way to make a shaped card, lol Oh well, the best laid plan of mice and men! So I put it on a brick paper background instead, as if it was hanging on a chimney. The stocking is cut from Cricut's Doodlecharms cartridge, the layers are hand stitched for a homespun country feel.

 You can see a little better, a close up of the French knots, and the hand sewing for the cuff of the stocking. I also cut down a S.E.I. tag to make it size appropriate. Then stamped "Be Jolly", from an old Studio G stamp, finished it off with Ranger's stickles for glittered balls!

Sending out thoughts and prayers to all those in the path of Hurricane Sandy. We are on the outside edge of it and have HOWLING winds right now as I am typing this post up. You can only imagine what it would be like to be in the direct path of one of these storms! I hope everyone stays safe!

This is a recording of the wind taken last night, it sounds almost like the ocean surf or a train rumbling by, but it's the wind. And mind you, this isn't directly in the wind, but the sound recording is on my protected balcony!

Wow, I am gearing up for Christmas at the Art Mob full time. I only had 20 Christmas cards in my 'stash' inventory so I am madly trying to add cards and wall hangings! I am hoping to have everything ready to go on Nov. 1st, it's fun to have a store to keep stocked and actually have some place for everything to go for a change...instead of storing them in boxes! lol

This candy card just had me singing the Dolly Parton song "Hard Candy Christmas", which is one of my favorite songs for getting over any ex-man in your life, especially during a bout of the holiday blues. I'm not sure if it will sell in the store, considering it's a "downer", but my mind kept going to the song, so I had to 'play' it so to speak. I love this video of Dolly singing with still shots of Marilyn Monroe. Enjoy :)


My card was created by cutting a 5.25" circle from the Paper Trimmings cartridge, then I used a peppermint clip art to help guide my red and white swirls. ( great way to get around the math of making this come out even ) I then colored the red in with a Sharpie first, so that I would have a nice deep red after applying the stickles over it. I used Ranger's Xmas Red and Diamond to cover the peppermint, making it a very blingy piece of candy!

Well, here is my desk, I'm working on another wall hanging for the Art MoB; this particular piece had many make overs to get to this final stage. Sometimes that's fun and sometimes it means I'm struggling....this time? I was struggling!! I hated it, hated it, then totally was in love with it!
Go figure! I'm just working on the letters, and then just have to add the hanging parts and it will be done! yay!

I really like my night sky, it looks a little lighter in this picture; the whole effect was done with ink pads. First swirled a black pad, then a silver one over the top. The horse was drawn and then cut out, then layered onto a magazine and cut out again, then lined with stickles. The moon, witch, and the bat was cut from the  Paper Trimmings cartridge. The letters were cut from the Happy Hauntings cartridge, using the Spooky font. The moon was cut twice, once in card stock, the second time in a printed vellum, and then handstitched together. I ran my quilting tool through black paint to get the edging and white and black paint smudged with my finger tips. The 2 smaller bats were stamped from BugBites, Magic Spells and the cricut bat was given dimension using Helmars Liquid Scrapdots.

Good morning everyone!

Yesterday was the Art MoB reception in Hendersonville, NC and since you, my bloggy friends, cannot come I brought the festivities to you! We had a glorious time, eating, drinking wine and chatting away the night. So many wonderful customers and artists all having fun; enjoy the slide show :) And sorry, no pictures of me...I'm the one behind the camera! :)

 

Here's a close up of the pumpkin treat boxes that I made for the party. They were a big hit, all gone before the party was over! :) This is last years October issue of the Cricut. ( I got a commission at the party to make 2 dozen Christmas favors! yay!! )

Here is a little treat container I made for the Art MoB store, it is an up-cycled cardboard roll :) The inside of the roll is painted black and the outside covered in paper. ( Great way to use up some of those Halloween paper scraps! )

I know this is an old idea, but I haven't seen one with a sentiment inside the shoe buckle before, so it has a new twist! I added a little sentiment that goes well with the witches shoe theme ;)

I love color, it's no lie, so when I saw the Helmar Monthly October Color challenge I was hooked. I also LOVED the picture of the flower that was the color inspiration too...double hooked! I actually didn't even want to alter the picture, if I had water droplets, I would have added those too!

And if you want to see the progression of how I made it, here is a slide show. I really fought the background as you will see, in the end, it's black, just like the color inspiration. Hi everyone out in WOYWW land of messy desks and creative minds! How are you doing today? I hope all is well and that you have time to stop and chat a bit with me. I was MIA last Wednesday, it's the first time since I began WOYWW that I missed a day...better than my school record; I must say! ::patting self on back::...hee hee

I can't show you a picture of my desk because it has some Christmas Cards on it that I am making for a group swap, but I will share a picture of some Pitt Pen love which is laying on my desk....I keep all my pens and markers in baggies. I know that may sound weird but I have an obession with them. I have Slick Writers, Renee Lingren Markers, Glitter Gems and StarLightz ( together because they are glitter related ), Sakura Glaze pens, Galaxy Markers, Gelly Roll Metallics and EK Metallic collection ( also together since they are metallics ) and I also have a drawer for my random collection of pens: Copics, Reminisce, Uniball, and Close to my Heart, and lastly, a box on the shelf contains Sharpies and DecoColor Paint pens. Wow, that's 15 different kinds of pens/markers that all have their unique usage!!

 Are you a pen/marker ho? Evidently I am, lol

I would also love to share my new business cards that I made. The obvious part is the palette shape with the information about where to find my "stuff". But the best part are the colors and the dates.

 Now let me explain why...:) The colors with the days of the week have an importance! ( nothing to do with my art, are you confused? ) The explanation is simple, really it is! I am shy when it comes to promoting  the "sales" part of my business, so the colors/days of the week are important as it is a conversation starter for me. You see, those colors/days of the week represent the twisty ties on a loaf of bread which let's you know how fresh the bread is!( found on Pinterest ) In other words, something for me to talk about that's not pushing the sales of my art. I've been able to hand out cards to bank tellers, Office Max people ( who bless their hearts, let me fondle the different weights for paper to print my cards onto, lol ) and to complete strangers at the bread isle.

Now, if they happen to ask me about 'Sandee's cards and signs' then I can tell them all about my "stuff". If they don't, well, hopefully they might check it out. Regardless, I am hopeful that this is the kind of business card that won't get thrown away, or dumped into a larger pile of junk in a drawer, but will be pulled out and used as a reference, maybe even shared with a friend!( and yes, some of you may notice that there isn't enough room for "Artful Words", unless I drop down the thumb hole, which I plan on doing later )

I brought home one of my wall hangings from the Art Mob, intending to tweak it a little bit as I was not happy with it. This is what it looked like when it came home:

 

It got a lot more than tweaking, it got a complete overhaul, and now this is what it looks like!

I'm not sure what happened to my thought process when I began removing ( ok, ripping and tearing them off is a more adequate description ) items, but I think the Fall air and rustling leaves might have something to do with it! lol Whatever the case, I do like the changes better, but then it's a whole new piece! The only 2 things I kept were the Maya Road flowers and the Really Reasonable Ribbon bow. The letters are from Sandy Lion and Colorbok, the flower stems from an old arrangement and I used a brick stencil that I got from Donna Downey. Inks were all from Tim Holtz.

It's no exaggeration, that I love Page Maps sketches. I always find inspiration in them. This one is for the Moxxie Card Contest.

 

 

I love vellum, and this card has 2 pieces of it.

 

Fall Leaves - NRN ( it's old but still have several sheets in my hoarded stash! )

I did use Helmars V2 spray to hold it down while I stitched over the edges.

Adhesive Backed Vellum -  Colorbok ( which is the way to go with vellum, then you don't have to worry about which adhesive to use under it, I wish all vellum came this way!! I cut this piece in a circle to soften the background of leaves.) I then stamped my Hero Art's Fall background stamp onto it.

 

I wanted to add some texture to it, so I added twine.

 

The circle of twine was created by winding the twine 3 times around a peanut butter jar lid, adding drops of glue on top of the twin to keep it held together, let dry before removing it. I used my Aleene's Tacky Glue and held it with my hand, it only took a moment to set up. In the mean time, I laid a line of glue around the outside of the circle and let it also set up before laying the twine on top. Worked like a charm!

 

Then I  altered an embellishment so that it would fit my card.

 



Next I had to trim the top of the cornstalk from Outdoors and More because it was too long for the card, and outlined the cut off edges with my Pitt Pen to make it blend in with the image. I also cut off  2 leaves on the right side of the stalk so that they could be laid up and over the twine while the cornstalk itself laid flat on the paper.





 

Then I needed some dimension.

The scare crow came from Best Creations and I used Helmar Liquid Scrapdots to elevate him up to the same level as the twine.

 

The last touch was adding the sentiment.

 

I used  a stamp from CardzTV, Make a Wish set, sanded the banner and used the back of my scissors to curl the banner, under and outer curl. In other words, a nice wave to the banner. Stamped with Stazon.

I used the Stardust Stack which is heavenly by the way!!! So much so, that the card you see, has already been sold at the Art MoB! It sold the same day that I took it in, lol I just love that! BUT, I had accidently deleted the image from my camera before making my post! YIKES! Soooooo....back to the craft board to remake the exact same card as before so I could take a picture of it ;)

I really do love this stack, with all the highly refined foiled and glittered papers not to mention the moon, stars and galaxies they printed out. It's one of the prettiest and ethereal set of papers I have ever seen! And they all have a white core, so as you can see on my flowers I gave them a sanding.

I know how to do the self exam by feeling the breast but I also was under the assumption that all we were suppose to be checking for is a lump, but I didn't know there was a visual check with other things to look for, so for anyone else that didn't know, here you go:

 

 In Front of a Mirror

Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead.
Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women's breasts do, so look for:

• change in breast size or shape
• dimpling or puckering of the skin
• redness, swelling, or warmth that does not go away
• a pain in one area that does not vary with a woman's monthly cycle
• a nipple that pulls in
• discharge from the nipple that begins suddenly and appears only in one breast
• one nipple that has an itchy, sore, or scaling area

Link Up For Pink

 

My final card for the Breast Cancer Awareness series. I will be curious to see if they sell in the store. This is a simple card, with miscellaneous paper, sticker letters and a ribbon. The gem is the same ones I used for the entire set, My Minds Eye. I colored in the letters with my Ranger's Distress Marker and the heart was filled in with stickles.

Currently, I am puppy sitting Max ( my brother's dog) and having a blast. I have really missed having a pet so I am enjoying myself immensely! Max, a Shih Tzu is 6 months old and loves to kiss....puppy loving is the best! lol

The origins of the Shih Tzu are unclear, but the prevailing thought is that the dog is a cross between Tibetan mountain dogs and the Lhasa Apso, probably occurring in the 1600s. The name translates to "lion dog," an indication of the high regard the Chinese had for that feline. The Shih Tzu held a high place among royalty in China, so much so that the breed stayed within that nation until about the 1930s. The popularity of the Shih Tzu took off when some made their way to England, with the Shih Tzu catching on in the United States in the late 1960s

Well, this wall hanging had a whole 2 days in the Art MoB store before it sold! I didn't even get to blog about it and it was out the door! AND, I didn't even realize until today that I had forgotten to add their beaks, lol OH MY! It sold anyway! Amazing, lol So anyway, here it is...my beakless owls!

It all started with being bored one day, I had these Cricut owl cut outs, left over, and decided to give them a dunk in my Tim Holtz Melting Pot, nothing like being bored and having a melting pot!! Then I played around with a little zen doodling with my new Pitt Pens. I did have to spray them with my frosted glass spray because the inks were rubbing off :( But the frosted spray gave them a nice wooden appearance, so I was happy. You can see the shine on the left and the duller look on the right.

And what do owls need? A branch to perch on, of course! Which led to a tree branch ( yes, I keep branches in my craft room! ...don't you?) and snipped them to create somewhere for my owls to hang out! You can see how that branch is bowing out, I used Helmars 450 adhesive and hand stitching to hold them down flat. It worked out very well!

Did you know that Gesso and paint can bubble up when exposed to excessive heat gun play? I did, but I thought I'd show you a picture of what it looks like, results = texture galore! Did I mention I was bored that day? Watching paint blister is a fun way to while away the time!

I love Donna Downey's usage of old rub on's. She just takes the whole sheet and randomly rubs them onto her piece. Now that was fun. You don't see a lot of them in the finished piece, but they do peek out from under the paint. This is going to be a favorite technique, as I have a lot of letter rub ons that I haven't used ( too hard to do and a pain in the you know what to cut apart and rub on! )

From cute sayings to inspirational quotes, word art is an art form that involves presenting words and phrases in an artistic fashion. Techniques typically associated with word art include manipulating letters into various shapes, coloring letters and adding shading and texture.

Hi everyone! I have been a busy little bee these days, the Art MoB is selling my stuff almost faster than I can make it, lol There are actually lots of projects that I haven't had time to show you! Like wow, right? So, anyway...some of you will remember that I did a demo at the Art MoB last Saturday, and as usual it was a blast. Hendersonville had TONS of people down for the Art On Main Street, it was so much fun to stroll around with Jerri afterwards and peek at what other artists create! I am so amazed with the creative mind, I know I am dull in comparison and truly humbled that people want to buy anything of mine!!

So here is what I made for Mou Saha's challenge over at Faber Castell's blog. Her challenge was to create "word art". I took the challenge to heart and tried to create my words into art....I hope I succeeded.

 

A few highlights to what I did:

 

I first used a gel medium to adhere a flower print piece of tissue onto my board, making sure to cover it well with the medium. When it was thoroughly dried, I added my sticker letters to it.

 

I painted over the entire piece with various shades of green paint using a Keenex Splash n' Go wipe so that it would be well blended.

 

I covered the chipboard letters with text book paper, and then outlined then with my Pitt Pen and adhered them to the center.

 

Next, using my Fiskar's Finger Tip knife, I gently scored around the painted over letters and lifted the dried paint up and away, revealing the pattern tissue paper underneath. Then I had fun, doodling and drawing on the letters with my fabulous Pitt Pens.

 

Lastly, edged the piece with Tim Holtz idea-ology tissue tape, used a charcoal pencil to outline it, smudged it with my fingers and used Glass Frost spray paint to seal it.

 

Here's a short slide show of the creation, I haven't had a chance to upload any music yet to my computer ( would love a good site if someone has one ), so until then, hum along ;)

Loss of hair; baldness.

Hair loss occurs because chemotherapy can sometimes damage healthy cells. It is so common because hair follicle cells multiply very quickly like cancer cells and chemotherapy drugs have difficulty in discerning the difference.

I don't know how it would feel to lose all my hair to chemo: a condition called alopecia. I'm guessing it's a little embarrassing, and self deflating. I don't know if I have a "pretty" shaped head or if it's full of dents and dings. I'm lucky that I have never had to find out, but this card is dedicated to all the women that have had to, or going through this stage.
