I've not been out and about much lately - but I thought some of you might enjoy these photos of the same location over the course of the summer at farm I walk by while down at the wharf. You may recall the dramatic effect of the seasons from an earlier entry - What Half a Year Can Do. Here we have only three months of change.
I was, of course, looking for some deer while I walked.
I wrote about a rainy day at the wharf when I took this picture on June 20, 2009. Nary a deer to be seen.
July 29, 2009. The golden field of wheat was harvested and who knows, perhaps we have eaten some of it in an English Muffin with all its nooks and crannies. If you look really closely you will see, interestingly enough, an orange traffic cone chasing a solitary deer in the picture above.
Last weekend, August 29, 2009. The continued wet weather has helped whatever this green stuff is (beans? peas?) grow like crazy. I think in three weeks it has grown nearly knee high. Nary a deer to be seen.
Returning to the wharf a while back, I had a great thrill. I encountered a deer upclose and was able to get close enough to pet and feed it. Now I usually don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things - but this was an exception.
I mean, its not every day you get to pet a deer, rub its soft leather hide and admire its flanks and indeed, even to sit and ride on it. It was so delightful.
And having seen deer run - I can attest to the fact that, "Nothing runs like a Deere."

LOL; I thought had a deer you were talking about, not a Deere....too funny, but cute!
I looked at that before and after picture of the 6 months, that was amazing how much it changed with the seasons; we don't have that dramatic of an effect here for sure, but we did in Montana and always enjoyed the change of the seasons there
okay, I enlarged that picture that there was supposed to be a cone chasing a deer and I didn't see anything......perhaps just a trail.....but.....no orange sighting here
but did see some orange cones playing hide and seek at the park this morning when I was walking Koda (some were hiding behind a building)
betty
First he's after squirrel tail...now he's riding deer. I'm beginning to worry about you... *laffin*
I know, I know....shup and go ride my bike....
I truly can't see an orange cone when I'm out and about and NOT think of Iggy!
Deere. You got me.
We used to have a John Deere back when we had a big, big yard to mow. I think my husband still misses his Deere.
You tricked me!
I think it's peas in the pic. That's my guess anyway.
So now I am looking out into the field trying to spot deer & english muffins. ~Mary
Alright, you got me with that one Deere.
Still on that Nyquil, huh?
Hugs! Missed you.
everyone likes a little ass, but no one likes a smart ass...ha
That picture!
LOL @ the cone chasing a solitary deer. I see it. :)
Terri and I both think that's a field of soybeans growing in that one pic.
Nothing runs like a Deere. (wish i had one) Our lawn tractor (the one that actually would mow the lawn) is broke down again. Been push mowing the whole lawn and it's hard to do when it rains all the time.
Hope you're feeling better. *hugs*
Ha, cool Deere!
Oh Deere, you tricked me!
well it isn't peas. I can't tell if it is some unusual bean crop. Leaves are very strange -- i wish you'd find out and let me know.
I can't take it when something is a mystery.
I compared the mystery plant leaves and height with the soybeans suggested by Alice Kay against pictures I found using Google and I do think she is right.
Thanks for the links. I have missed so much. Maybe this winter....
You must not be feeling that well--still? I sure hope you get over whatever it is you are suffering with. :( This is a slowing down, shifting gears time of the year, too. I loved to see the harvested fields and the deer--was that an orange cone I saw peeking out from under a wheel? :)
Ok, I fell for the ocha chasing the deer, but not when you started riding one.
My guess would have been beans, but only because I don't know what peas look like, lol. All we grow here is corn and beans, alternate every year. Either that or turf.
I love before and after photos :) and you are such a 'dear' :)
