"Life Finds A Way"

A Flower in Bloom

I spotted this flower while walking around my neighborhood on Wednesday evening. It is wedged in a crack between the curb and the asphalt street. Unbidden, the thought "life finds a way" popped into my head.

This is a quote from Jeff Goldblum's character, Dr. Ian Malcolm, in Jurassic Park, a film directed by Steven Spielberg, when they are discussing the risks of dinosaur breeding.

Jurassic Park is a techno-thriller novel written by Michael Crichton that was published in 1990. The novel is often considered a cautionary tale on unconsidered biological tinkering in the same spirit as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

The flower at the curb shows how strong the natural "instinct" to reproduce and survive truly is, in a simple, rather grimy picture.

It expresses to me, anyway, a sort of hopeful courage for those trying to have children, and for those battling cancer and other debilitating illnesses. Life unexpectedly finds a way.
