It's Time for the Top 2000 Songs of All Time Countdown!

Hi friends!  I'm so excited!  It's finally time to start the Top 2000 Countdown Blog Party!!!

Every year, a radio station in the Netherlands (Radio 2), hosts an international vote to determine the Top 2000 songs of all time.  They publish the results mid-December, and then on Christmas Day they start playing all 2000 songs; in ascending order - ending with the #1 song of all time on New Year's Eve.

My friend Marit Barentsen, has been hosting a blog party to honor this tradition, for the past eight years!  Artists all over the world are invited to create art inspired by songs on the list, and submit them to her. She publishes them all week long on her blog - each one on the day that the song plays on the radio.  Every year there is more and more art - It's loads of fun!

I have been playing along since the very beginning, and I'm so excited to start the party again this year!  My goal is to publish one journal page each day for the next week; each one inspired by a song on that days portion of the Top 2000 list.

First, I wanted something to introduce the top 2000 pages in my journal, so I created this...

and now, on to the first day of the party!

Today we are counting down the best songs of all time, from #2000 to #1808.

I picked Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, which comes in at #1812...

It's hard to tell in the photo, but this was done in a "junk journal," and the right side of the page is smaller than the left side.  That is why you see that white stripe and polkadot paper in the upper right corner.  It's the following page showing through.  Hope that makes sense?  I used alot of techniques that I learned in Roxanne Coble's "Lyrical" workshop. Check it out if you are looking for a fun, music-inspired class - I loved it!

Anyhoo,  here's Mr. Dylan in the classic video for Subterranean Home Sick Blues - enjoy!

I will be back tomorrow with day two of the countdown!  In the meantime, check out the official blog party going on at Marit's blog; and see all of the beautiful creations from artists around the world!

It's New Year's Eve! And the last day of the Top 2000 Countdown!

Hi friends!  Yeehaw!  It's almost my favorite holiday - New Year's Day!  I get so excited this time of year!  The anticipation of a fresh start, plus all of the new classes starting up!  Inspiration truly is everywhere right now!!!

Before we get to that tho, I want to pay tribute to this year, and celebrate one more day of the Top 2000 Party!  Today, we are counting down #258 - #1!

You know that feeling you get when you are listening to a song, and you think "wow, this is the most beautiful song ever written?"  That's how I feel when I hear this song.  The fact that it's #68 and it's only 1 year old, tells me I am not alone...

THINKING OUT LOUD
by Ed Sheeran
#68

I couldn't decide between two versions of this song to share with you, so I'll give you both!

First - my favorite - an acoustic gem...

and here's the official video - also lovely...

I want to thank Marit Barentsen, for hosting this awesome party again this year!  It's always a hilight of the year for me, and I appreciate all of the hard work she does to coordinate it.  Thank you Marit!  Don't forget to hop on over to her blog and see the final creations from everyone!

Thank you so much for visiting, and I will see you in 2016!!!

Day Six of the Top 2000 Party...

Hi friends! I can't believe it's already the second to last day of the countdown!  I have somehow strained my left wrist, so I'm typing this post with one hand.  Ack!  You might know I would injure myself right before New Years Day, when all my new journaling classes start - LOL.  Oh well. Maybe I will miraculously recover overnite! I hope so, cuz tomorrow's page isn't finished yet!

Anyhoo, today we are counting down songs #567 - #259. I have two pages to share...

Day Five of the Top 2000

Hi friends!  It's time for Day Five of the Top 2000 party!  Today we are counting down from #872 to #568, and I've got two pages to share with you...

When Michael and I were in Las Vegas last year, we saw the show "Rock of Ages," and it was awesome!  It was a story built around all the big 80's rock songs - SO MUCH FUN!  When I saw "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake on the list, it made me think of Rock of Ages immediately; so I did a little tribute...

HERE I GO AGAIN

The photo is scanned from the program that we got at the show.  I did the background with Dylusions Spray Ink, and added lots of stickles glitter.

Here's the video for Here I Go Again.  Classic 80's stuff here!

And here is a scrapbook page from the days of old.  I loved making this one...

I'M YOURS

This video really makes me miss summertime!  Check it out...

Day Four of the Top 2000 - singing along with Justin Timberlake and Jason Mraz...

Hi friends!  We are moving right along with day 4 of the Top 2000 party, where we countdown songs #1180 - #873!

Again, I have two pages to share; the main one that I made for my Top 2000 journal, and another older scrapbook layout....

MIRRORS
by Justin Timberlake
#944
This song has ALOT of lyrics, so I filled the whole background with them; and everything else went on top.  I made a mask from a photo I found online and sprayed some dark dylusions and adirondack mists over it.  There are so many good lines in this song, it was hard to choose one to highlight!

Here's Justin performing Mirrors on the Ellen show...

I am having fun throwing a few of my old scrapbook layouts into the mix this year.  Here's one that pays tribute to #962...

FEELING GOOD
by Nina Simone
#962

Enjoy the video...

I hope you are enjoying counting down the Top 2000 songs with me!  Click here to go to Marit's blog and see what everyone is creating!

Thanks for visiting and I will see you tomorrow for Day Five!

Day Three: For What It's Worth and Love Shack...!

Hey friends!  I've got two pages to share for today's portion of the Top 2000 party, which is counting down from #1487 - #1181 of the Top 2000 songs of all time!

This first song was written by Stephen Stills, and is actually about the Sunset Strip riots of 1966/67; but is also considered a vietnam war anthem.  I feel the lyrics still apply today. In my collage, I merged photos of protests from the 1960's through now...

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH
by Buffalo Springfield

Enjoy this classic video!

Moving along to the second page...

When I saw Love Shack on the list, I immediately thought of a layout I did years ago for the Scrapping the Music challenge blog.  I had so much fun with this one, I wanted to include it here. It stars my two buddies Johnny and Willie...

LOVE SHACK
by the B-52's

Check out this live version of the song...

Thanks so much for visiting, and don't forget to head over to Marit's Blog to check out all the other artists work!

Day Two of the Top 2000...

Hi friends! We are moving on to day two of the Top 2000 party!

The song I picked for today goes in a bit of a different direction than yesterday...

Coming in at #1806, it's "No Rain," by Blind Melon
I used watercolors for this one. I wanted to create a completely different feeling - more light and whimsical.

This is seriously one of my favorite videos of all time!  I just love the little bee girl and her search for appreciation. I can certainly relate to this message...

I hope you are enjoying the Top 2000 party!  Click here to go to Marit's blog and see what songs everyone created art for on day two!

The song I picked for today is from 1992 - a classic song that speaks to me -  especially with everything that's going on in the world right now...

Workspace Wednesday - Creating my Top 2000 Journal...

Hi friends!  It's time for Workspace Wednesday again, and I'm excited to bring you into the studio and show you what's going on...

Today is the day that the list of Radio 2's Top 2000 songs of all time goes live.  I'm excited to be able to peruse through the list; and select the songs that I want to use as inspiration for journal pages for Marit's Top 2000 blog party!  For me, this process is a big part of the fun!

I'm doing something new this year - I'm creating a special journal, just for the party!  I was so inspired by this blogpost by Marit, that I've decided to follow suit and create my own version of a Top 2000 journal! Thanks for the inspiration Marit!

This is what my workspace looked like earlier today, as I was in the midst of the project...
I decided to make the book 6" x 9," with a cardboard cover that I collaged with sheet music, and painted with Dylusions paints and Stencil Girl Stencils.  The spine is painted canvas.  I didn't have a big enough piece, so I sewed two pieces together and glued it on with lots of gel medium!

Here's my mixed media table with my tools and stencils drying...

and here's how the journal turned out.  The flower is done with gesso, and markers; and I used the dyed muslin as a finishing touch.  I can't wait to use it!

Here's the inside front cover.  The first page will be used as a Table of Contents...

and here's the back cover...

Check out Marit's blog for more info on the Top 2000 Blog party!  It's going to be tons of fun!  I hope you decide to play along!
