Happenings

I was sitting around reading blogs busy cleaning the house this morning when I heard shrieking and laughter coming from the kitchen.

Lauryn raced into the living room holding a plastic bowl filled with ice. Quick back story...She was conducting her own science experiment and wanted to see how long it took the ice to freeze. That was about two weeks ago, yet why do we still have a bowl of frozen water in the freezer?

Anyway, I should also preface this by saying that our ice maker is broken. Has been for about 5 years. Occasionally it freezes over and gets so full that when we open the door, we're greeted by an avalanche of ice chunks. We do what we can to keep things entertaining around here.

Well, I can only assume one of the chunks landed in her bowl.

And it just happens to look like a penguin, belly gliding across the ice.

She thought it was hilarious! And it really kind of was! We put it back in the freezer so it wouldn't melt before Daddy can see it :)
-School starts Monday! Lauryn has "Meet the Teacher" tomorrow night. She is excited. But mostly nervous. She deals with her share of anxiety, and to be truthful, she comes by it honestly. Poor thing can't escape her DNA.
We're trying to work with her and explain that things aren't always as scary as she might make them out to be. We're using examples of times when she was really nervous about something, but everything turned out ok (going to Ethan's VBS without me there, for example...she ended up LOVING it. We're using that example a lot lately).
Mostly we're praying that she will seek God for comfort in times that she is worried. It's hard for someone who wants to have control over things to sit back and trust God. Especially hard for a six-year-old-someone. I'm learning right along with her. Believe me.
- In other news, I found this blog and can't read it without my mouth hanging open in awe. This girl takes random thrift store items (usually things she paid $1 for) and turns them into something "wearable". No pattern. No instruction. Just her imagination and serious, SERIOUS sewing skills. To say that I'm a tad jealous is a major understatement.

I adore sewing. I can't believe how much I can learn from each project I do. But let's not mistake that for what this girl comes up with OUT OF HER OWN HEAD. If I don't have a pattern in front of me, I start sweating and staring blankly at the fabric. I need a pattern. Maybe one day I will get out of that comfort zone, but for now, patterns are a must.
It's a good thing there are tons of amazing patterns out there! I put a few of them to use and just finished making some things for Halloween.
-Lastly, my four year old cracks me up. She talks like a little grown up, hand gestures and facial expressions and all of that. Then the next minute she will cry hysterically because she spilled water on her shirt. Allie has just the right mix of crazy and sweet that make her irresistible. I love her silly personality that keeps us laughing all day. I also love how this morning she pulled me into their room to show me a "supwise". She made her bed...as well as her sister's. She was so proud of herself.
We're anticipating quite an exciting week! We're saying prayers for all of our sweet friends who are starting kindergarten this year, as well as our friends who are moving up to the next grade. I'll be sure to update soon!

Back with More Advertising

Sorry for the lack of blogging. My kids really are funny and talented and hilarious and brilliant and crafty and clever. I just don't have any pictures to prove it. And even less time to write about it right now.

I took a blogging detour to focus on another true love of mine (aside from the hubby and kids, of course). By the way, my serger is starting to have a burning kind of smell. Is that something that should worry me?!

I have a few more ideas that need to get out of my head and into my hands, but getting these done was a great start! There are two new posts, so be sure to scroll down after the first one.

Let me know what you think!
