Television

The theme this week for our Journal 52 is "Television"

Television today is so completely different to when I was a little girl

I remember watching the Queens Coronation and the FA Cup Final - all the family and some of the neighbours would all gather together in the home of anyone who had a TV

In the 50s, the hours people watched television were tightly controlled - the 24 hour broadcasting of today was unheard of. The Postmaster General stipulated how many hours of television could be shown each week. In 1956, for example, the BBC was allowed to broadcast television on weekdays between 9am and 11pm, with not more than 2 hours before 1pm. There was also a period between 6pm and 7pm when no television was broadcast. This period was used by parents to trick young children into thinking that the evening's television had finished so they would go to bed without complaint - it was known as the 'toddlers' truce' -imagine that today! At the weekends, the rules were no more relaxed. A maximum of eight hours broadcasting was allowed on Saturdays and 7 3/4 hours on Sunday. On Sunday another anachronism reigned - television shown between 2pm and 4pm was intended for adults - children were meant to be at Sunday School! Gradually the rules on broadcasting hours were made less strict. The 'toddlers' truce', for example, was dropped in 1957

Well enough of the chatter and on to my page

I don't watch a lot of television but one of the shows that I really like is "Strictly come dancing" so that what I have used for my page - hope you like it

I added torn paper and tissue to my page with PVA I then added some gauze to create my TV frame - after it dries I added Rusty Hinge Distress Spray to colour it.

I did the "spotlight" by putting texture paste through Tim's Rays Stencil

I stamped the images with Adirondack Pitch Black

I printed my words, mounted them onto black cardstock and inked them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink

Everyone on Strictly strives for a 10 score so I added grungeboard numbers after inking them with Distress Inks

I love this challenge - Journal 52

and Brenda's Just for fun Blog Hop because you don't have too much time to think about it - you just get out your supplies and get it done

Journal 52 Silhouettes

I started by covering my journal page with strips of old paper, tissue tape and some bits out of my scarps box

I then covered the whole page with Gesso using an old credit card = I did this lightly so that the text would show through then added some background stamping

I pit some Acrylic - Daler Rowney Cobalt Teal and Natural through various stencils and let it dry

I used an Andy Skinner stencil for my silhouette and black Gesso

I added some more background stamping using Pumpkin and Saddle Brown Stazon

I then used some foam stamps and Teal Stazon to add some ore colour

I added my words which a I had printed out and then used Charcoal to do some highlighting

This Is my entry for the Journal 52 Challenge - Silhouttes

I am also showing it on Brenda's just for fun share your visual journal pages - it would be great if you popped over and linked your work

Tick Tock

Next I used Golden Light gilding paste on a cloth to highlight the texture

I added the TIME letters(Salvage Stickers) and chit chat words and highlighted them

I then added a wooden clock from my stash, some clock parts, put some glossy accents in-between the parts and added black seed beads

Hand painted bookmark

One of my favourite  things that I love to do as much as my artwork and machine work is to read - I have been an avid reader since I was young and used to use a torch when my mum put my bedroom light off

I used some things left over from my Christmas crafting to produce this bookmark - a small piece of watercolour paper and some beads

I started by lightly sketching the tree I then used Winsor and Newton water colours to add the colour and when dry  I  laminated it

I punched a hole in the top and added an eyelet and then put the ribbon that I had attached the beads to through it

I'm sure I'll use it a lot !!!

This is my entry for the following challenges

Use a Portrait

I started with a piece pf hardboard - covered it with paper from Tim's "Traveller" paper stack

I added a little colour too it - not a lot because I liked the colour. I used Texture Fade and Distress ink to add the dots - I then cut and tore pieces of old paper some doyley and some burlap and added the to the centre - I inked with vintage photo to have them all the same shade - I then added the photos again from one of Tim's paper stacks which I had mounted on burlap

I followed Brenda's brilliant tutorial on my leaves and key - it wasn't as successful as Brenda's but I love the techniques and will try again.

I added a flower made of fabric and string and put the leaves underneath. I then added the key

I finished off by putting holes in the top and threading hemp through

This is my entry for the Vintage Journey Challenge - use a Portrait -Almost all of the products I used were Tim Holtz

I am also entering in the following challenges
