Pattern
The night sets softly with the hush of falling leaves
Casting shivering shadows on the houses through the trees,
And the light from a street lamp paints a pattern on my wall,
Like the pieces of a puzzle or a child's uneven scrawl.
Up a narrow flight of stairs in a narrow little room,
As I lie upon my bed in the early evening gloom,
Impaled on my wall my eyes can dimly see,
The pattern of my life and the puzzle that is me.
"Patterns"
- Simon & Garfunkel
We're creatures of habit. Always have been, always will be.
"Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it. You have to expose who you are so that you can determine what you need to become." - Cynthia Patterson
I was looking for quotes about repeating history and OMG the quote above was like a lightning bolt.
To be able to make changes in my life - weight, procrastination, happiness - I need to look at that history, or patterns, that have influenced my present behaviors. But like a fool I have ignored the missteps I have taken in the past and repeated those same bad choices.
Once I've learned from those choice, I need to let them go. Dwelling on them won't help me get to where I want to be.
Reflect, Learn, Grow, Release.

Man, I am so enjoying this series of posts! This just hit home for me. Again, the perfect choice of song, a great picture, and the philosophy that accompanies this is awesome!

ReplyDeleteI agree about always looking at the past for analysis so as not to keep repeating things either good or bad.
