Pattern

The night sets softly with the hush of falling leaves

Casting shivering shadows on the houses through the trees,

And the light from a street lamp paints a pattern on my wall,

Like the pieces of a puzzle or a child's uneven scrawl.

Up a narrow flight of stairs in a narrow little room, 

As I lie upon my bed in the early evening gloom,

Impaled on my wall my eyes can dimly see,

The pattern of my life and the puzzle that is me.

We're creatures of habit.  Always have been, always will be.

I was looking for quotes about repeating history and OMG the quote above was like a lightning bolt. 

To be able to make changes in my life - weight, procrastination, happiness - I need to look at that history, or patterns, that have influenced my present behaviors.  But like a fool I have ignored the missteps I have taken in the past and repeated those same bad choices.  

Once I've learned from those choice, I need to let them go. Dwelling on them won't help me get to where I want to be.

Reflect, Learn, Grow, Release.
