BLUNDERING GOVERNMENTS

Our government (Alberta Canada) is not the swiftest . It's quite right wing and some of them think Trump is a great guy. Nuff said. They're idiots.

So they try to come up with great ideas to make themselves look good instead of helping people.

Somehow the cheapies must have got their hands on a few million covid 19 masks . The idea was to give them to people to help with the pandemic.

Alberta Minister of Health Tyler Shandro holds a package of four non-medical masks that will be available to Albertans to prevent the spread of COVID-19, in Calgary, Alta., Friday, May 29, 2020. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jeff McIntosh ORG XMIT: JMC105

Now comes the loony stuff. They decided that you could get your free mask by getting MacDonald's , A & W and Tim Hortons to give them out through the drive ins. Sound good?

Well it doesn't take long to see that this plan is somewhat inadequate. What happens in a little rural town that doesn't have any of these outlets?  What happens to people who don't have cars.?

The idea was that each person was to get one package of masks that had four masks to a package. What's to stop people from asking for more? What's to stop people from going to ten different outlets? What happens to the poor beggar who doesn't get there in time? I wonder how the elderly will get to the drive ins?

So yesterday the plan began and  masks were handed out.. Some outlets gave out as many masks as you asked for. Some employees didn't like the extra work so handed out masks on a wholesale business.

One funny incident. To make a point one guy took a paper box apart and put fake cardboard wheels on it . He colored this up nicely and then walked through a drive in with this gizmo .

Well, this has kept the old people wagging their tongues . It's just another goofy government project.

  1. Now that sounds like something Trump would do! I'm surprised they didn't use them to replace the toys in the Happy Meals.

  2. Oh my, this idea is fraught with problems.

  3. Well it sounds like it could have worked but as soon as you get people involved that's the end of it. All people.

    1. It could have been one of the ways of distribution.

  4. Alberta is not like the rest of Canada, but in my brief experience there quite awhile ago now, the people seem very friendly.

  5. Hello, it seems like nothing concerning this virus is going smoothly. It is nice to get some free masks. Have a great day!

    1. The wily virus doesn't help us as so little is known about it.

  7. Wondering if they are good masks and have enough layers?? Also wondering if those retail outlets liked the promotion for their business. Why not set up collection points at libraries, banks and ouside schools?

    1. The supply is controlled by the politicians and they want some benefit from it.

  9. Yeah, that sounds like it wasn't very well thought-out!

When I was in college, some friends and I tried to walk through a drive-through lane to the window, and the restaurant refused to serve us. :(

    1. Well, considering some drive throughs accept customers on horses that was pretty chinzy.

  10. Boy, someone didn’t think this one through! People won’t even wear the masks here so I doubt that a giveaway would have much effect one way or the other.

    1. There are many clueless but why do we have to choose them to be in our government.

  13. Well, in any event it made for an interesting post, Red. There is no shortage of idiocy in most governments, it seems. :-)

  14. Governments who would spend millions on dubious stuff can't spend a little on postage to mail masks out? I think they weren't very serious about getting them to the folks who need them most!

  15. Why doesn't The Micro Manager stand for election? She whipped you into shape so she could do the same for Alberta.

    1. The Micro Manager does have some written in stone ideas about government...not all of them right.

  16. There are people who can tell governments how to do these things, in case they can't just google it.

  17. When trying to buy votes, they just really don't care to think things through. Obviously the goal was just to get rid of the masks, not really help people.

  18. Well, I'm not surprised that it wasn't on your news as it's so dumb. It's not really a story.

  19. Blundering governments, Red. Blundering governments are a dime a dozen and they are not solely confined to Alberta. They're everywhere.
My first thought was - would you like some masks with that? And the idea that coffee and fast food are high on people's daily list of priorities.
Just another failure to either listen or think things through, we need to remember of course we are talking politicians here. Not Rhodes scholars...
Anyway, did you get mask or two? Do they work or did they fall apart?

  20. I totally share your concerns dear Red

I think plan should have panoramic approach of the problem instead of childish one
Developing countries have even more miser politicians who try hardest to spend least on public

  21. It is big business indeed. Here we didn't know where to get those masks until we passed a shoemaker shop slash dry cleaning? who sold them. We bought two packages with five for an idiot price!

  22. Once, apparently and so the story goes, when I was a child I rolled my eyes so far back in my head that my eyes stuck. I still wonder about this as I may have been two or three at the time and I have no memory, but mum says my grandmother got a wet cloth and slapped it up against my eyes. Horrific but it apparently worked. Where am I going with this story and case in point, I am rolling my eyes so far back in my head these days that I may make a repeat performance!!!

  23. haha! protectors of the people

  24. I have to agree that this is an idiotic idea. Why couldn't they just drop a package at each home? They did that with flyers about information about the virus.

  25. I believe Japan gave out two masks per household. It was probably mailed out, I think. I agree with you completely about dispensing them through fast food places though. That was nuts. So there are Canadians who like Trump. Wow! That’s a surprise.
