Booger's New Browband

In celebration of paying off a few of my student loans, I decided to spoil myself and get a new, blingy browband for Booger. Ok, so that's really just a justification and I would have gotten one anyway.

As I mentioned casually on the blog, Booger outgrew her pony sized browband a while ago. I could have swapped it out for one of the many plain horse sized browbands that I have floating around, especially since both of my horses are retired. Instead, I put her in Dancer's old browband, which looked dazzling on her, but wasn't her.

Booger is a true black, which means any color can go with her coat. The possibilities were endless!

So, I contacted Stacey from Behind the Bit. She now has an etsy shop where she sells custom browbands. I was originally planning to buy a pre-existing browband, but I really wanted something that combined burgundy and navy blue for Boo. I wound up pestering Stacey until we had built a completely custom browband for a horse I don't even own.

Stacey was very patient and flexible and awesome through this whole process. I made vague statements like, "I want something that says 'princess pony' without being too over the top," and Stacey found beads that said exactly what I was thinking. It was unbelievable! I must have had her tweak the arrangement a million times before I was satisfied. I wanted something that matched our current set up. I wanted to incorporate gold or bronze. I wanted something girly, but not too girly.

In the end, Stacey designed this:

I was completely in love already! The little gold beads with the flowers in them were the perfect touch of 'filly'. I couldn't wait for it to arrive.

When the box finally, finally got here (ok, the shipping was actually really prompt, but I was on pins and needles!) it was even more dazzling than I imagined. The beads looked burgundy and navy at the same time (what?!?!) and the blue spacers were stunning. I wanted to drive out to the barn and put it on her immediately, which probably would have been a little silly...

Instead, I took pictures of it in my living room, where I totally failed to do it any justice.

Yesterday, I saved Booger for last. I replaced Dancer's browband with Booger's very own, and she stood patiently while I adjusted everything. Then, she stood even more patiently as I snapped a million photos. Just like my own horses, she has learned that when the camera comes out, it's best to just pose and get it over with. Haha.

I think it looks great on her.

That's right. I bought a browband for a horse I don't own. And before everyone goes making those comments about how I don't own her yet or how I should just admit she's mine (ok, maybe in my head she is a little), I would just like to remind you that you all made the same comments when I bought a browband for a sale horse, and Dancer went to his next home just fine. Haha.

On a serious note, though, I would highly recommend working with Stacey for browbands. She was delightful even when I was annoying. The browband is very high quality and exactly what I wanted.
