AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Ruby Bandaid

The owners who live at this property in the Dromana Hills are very keen on recycling.
Garden art - pieces of cars- and even the letter box are made of recycled materials.

Scenic Hoop?

At first, this looks like an ordinary hoop for shooting balls.
But I have never seen one that allows the leafy view of the setting to be seen through the backboard - or such a huge backboard for that matter!
I just wondered why it was so close to the gutter of the carport roofline!
The photo was taken at the village of Bittern on the Mornington Peninsula.

Red Earths

Red earths/sands are a feature of Cranbourne Botanical Gardens to symbolise the outback, central Australia areas!
The garden specialises in native plants.
This particular area is referred to as the Red Sand Garden, a design feature of the Australian Garden opened in 2006.

Icecream Sign

A very popular place in the summer time or the autumn or the spring
and even, on long weekends, in the winter.
This shop is in Dromana, on the main street, facing the beach.
Icecream styles from the cold northern worlds of Scandinavia have made their mark in the warm southern worlds of Australia!
It's good to see features of other cultures on parade!

On a hot evening
The glow of icecream heaven
Always draws a crowd

Magical Coastline

Beautiful coastline round London Bridge Ocean Beach on the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula.
Mini waterfalls, strange rock shapes and pools abound!
And the surf is exciting!

So many wonders
If we only took some time
To just stand and stare

Reality Recycled

I was fascinated by the strange melting of shadow and reflection on this car in a Rosebud carpark.

Red Pillar

In the white world of Martha Cove marina homes, the red stands out.
I am not sure why this particular home has a single red pillar.
It looks odd to me.

Many white boats and white homes
Lonely red pillar
