AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Lighthouse in the Rain

Rainy view of the old McCrae lighthouse on the Mornington Peninsula.
This lighthouse guides sailors through the South Channel on the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay.
The original McCrae Lighthouse was a timber structure built in 1854 and following years of service was dismantled in sections and transported by bullock wagon to the top of nearby Arthurs Seat to be used as a lookout. The present day lighthouse, built in England in 1874 by Chance Brothers & Co of Birmingham, was transported to Australia by sea and erected on this site in 1883.

Water Dance

This photo is of the coastline round Mushroom Reef beach at Flinders.
It is rugged.
And the water seems to enjoy playing and dancing round over the rocks.

when tides roll in
when coastline rocks are weird shapes
waters launch magic

Relaxing Boating

Drifting around the waters at Schnapper Point, Mornington was this guy in his little boat.
He was leaning back, relaxing and using pedals to get around!

Pedalling a boat
Unusual way to sail
Relaxing past time

Just Doing Their Thing!

At times, when the tide is out, the waters at Rosebud beach are very shallow.
And that is when you see some strange sights.
People seem to walk on water (sandbars) near boats.
Birds don't mind keeping their eye on activities.

At low tide
Wander far out in the bay
No swimming needed
