Gluttony in NYC, Day 2

It was just the two of us, Manhattan as our oyster, on our second day in the city.

We started with dessert-for-breakfast from William Greenberg Desserts,
within walking distance of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I was determined to see China: Through the Looking Glass and was pleased that Severo was willing to join me.
We scarfed down our goodies as the line became longer and longer.
The China show was AMAZING (seven posts about it on SpyGirl) and then we walked the John Singer Sargent show, also incredible.
I find Sargent's painting style very inspiring.
John Singer Sargent, Mrs. Hugh Hammersley, Oil on canvas, 1892
I was so preoccupied with the exhibitions, I lost track of the fact that I went for four hours fueled by only one coffee and one hamentashen. Needed food, STAT.

What better cure for my hunger pangs than some New York style thin crust pizza,
from our favorite place: Pizza Suprema at 31st and 8th.
Ahhhh. Relief.

I was then fortified to take on more sock shopping at Jack's.
Severo shopped vicariously through me.
Severo loves a good bargain.

After all that excitement, naps were needed.
And dinner:
Lobster Roll, Lobster Elote, Salad, Lobster Mac-n-Cheese, at Red Hook Lobster Pound

And dessert at M'o Il Gelato:
Mango Sorbetto, Limone Sorbetto, random cookies

The Glutton Suggests:
A Day of Eating (and a Little Shopping) in SF

This was in an email I sent to Style Sud-Est, who was traveling to San Francisco in April.
Since I'm going up there on Thursday, I thought it was finally time to share!
Breakfast: Pork Store
1451 Haight St (between Masonic Ave & Ashbury St) San Francisco, CA 94117
Best is location on Haight, then you can walk the street and find TREASURES!
For instance, Mendel's, a fantastic fabric/craft shop with lots of old stock -- their fake fur selection is outstanding!

Walk around and window shop, you'll want to be hungry for...
Late lunch/early dinner: Swan Oyster Depot $$$
1517 Polk St (between California St & Sacramento St) San Francisco, CA 94109
Only open until 5:30pm!
Small, crowded, you sit at a bar.
Worth the long line, suggest going around 2-3pm.

Feel like some ice cream?
Bi-Rite Creamery
3692 18th St (between Dolores St & Oakwood St) San Francisco, CA 94110
On other side of street is their market
stock up on goodies to take home with you.
Claire's Squares are a perennial favorite in our house.
Also good is their deli section, and check the olive/salad takeaway area -- lots of great items for al fresco dining in nearby Mission Dolores Park, or wherever

What? Still hungry?

Late night burrito: El Farolito
2779 Mission St (between 24th St & 23rd St) San Francisco, CA 94110
Nothing like the Mission district at night!

Gluttony in Austin - Day 1: Breakfast

Hi y'all! I had the BEST TIME in Austin, TX, attending TxSC, a conference for "female bloggers, shop owners, and friends in fashion." My musings on the conference itself are over on SpyGirl. Here, I'll tell you about all the eating and shopping that Severo and I managed to wedge in between my fashion blogger activities.
a bit of color to the east as we near Houston

We flew a red-eye from LAX to Austin, via Houston. As usual, I didn't sleep much, while Severo snored away moments after buckling his seat belt. It's a rare gift that he has!
The coolest thing I saw out the window in the semi-darkness was a full moon illuminating the cloud cover and horizontal flares of lightning glowing intermittently. Sad that it was too dark to capture with a camera and I was too spaced out to sketch it on my iPad.
fantastic clouds between Houston and Austin
Upon landing, our first act of gluttony was breakfast.
Migas at Taco Xpress, to be exact!
It was already starting to rain, so we ate inside
My migas plate and Sev's breakfast tacos with chorizo.
I had been craving migas ever since I registered
for the conference in January... maybe even before that...
They don't have decent migas in LA --
strange but true.
Then it was time for some sugar!
Severo wisked us over to Sugar Mama's, a bakery he discovered online through an article in the Austin Chronicle.

I had THE BEST lemon cupcake --
THE MOST LEMONY I have ever eaten!
I was in lemon raptures!!!!!!
(The lemon bar, on the other hand, failed to impress)
more on Sugar Mama's and their cupcakes
is over on Cupcake Safari
the deluge continued outside
as we satisfied our sweet teeth
Next up: shopping on South Congress...

Gluttony on Tour: New York 1/19 ~ 1/22

I had all intentions to report on this trip as it transpired...
I WAS TOO BUSY EATING!!!
This trip, I managed to come home with more clothing than food. Here's some of the booty:
1) Desigual mini skirt with NYC motif
2) Uniqlo heat tech tanks + socks
3) Sev's 25¢ NYC tin, Duane Reade
4) cobalt Wigwam socks, Sockman, St Mark's Pl
5) ceramic "go" cup, greek deli style,
MeMe Antenna, Williamsburg
6) Oslo Roasters Freya blend roast coffee,
Williamsburg
7) Hot Sox tights from Sockman
8) Barbie pink knit cape + scarf from
Mandala Tibetan Store, Williamsburg
9) bag from Rice to Riches --
ate the pudding before airport security,
tub of
caramel sauce made it through, sanctioned by TSA
(missing -- still in Sev's bag:
six molassas cookies from Pies n Thighs)
Stay tuned for a full report on what we did, I'll roll it out slowly.
It was a super fun trip. We packed in a lot of eating and touring in very little time. Need a vacation to recover from my vacation!
