Review: PROMISES by Aleatha Romig!

My Review: This is the perfect ending to this series. It just fits so perfectly, and felt so right. And man, it was certainly a journey to get to this point, so thank goodness this was so satisfying. Honestly, I wasn't even sure I would survive everything up to this - I mean, Aleatha Romig made my heart hurt more than once - heck, more than a dozen times! But I made it, and I'm so glad I did.

There is no way for me to discuss the best parts, my favorite parts, without spoiling this book or the previous ones, and I would never do that to someone. There's something so refreshing and shocking about going into this series blind, and I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of that. So just trust me - you need to read this series. Do yourself a favor and get the Web of Sin trilogy onto your kindles (or any other designated reading device) ASAP!!

Cover Lovin': Fits beautifully with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: You *HAVE* to have read the previous two books first, this is a direct sequel.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!!! What an epic finale! I think I might go swoon from being all overly emotional now.

Review: EYE OF THE EAGLE by Sharon Buchbinder!

Eye of the Eagle Tour Graphic

My Review: I love it when the hero and heroine clash. There's nothing better than them wanting to leave each other alone, but unable to because they can't fight that magical attraction. And that's pretty much what we have here - Bert and Phoebe have their own lives to live, their own issues to deal with.. they really don't need to get caught up in each others' drama. But that makes it so much more satisfying when they can't help themselves.

This was a solid paranormal romance. Their abilities weren't an after thought, like "Oh yeah and they have powers," and at the same time - they weren't the whole focus of the story. There was a great balance between the paranormal aspect, the suspense, and the romance. It was a quick read, maybe a little faster than I would have liked since I wanted it to last longer. Overall, definitely a good read, and I'd happily read more.

Cover Lovin': Simple, yet sweet.

Recommendation: Book three, but can be read alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! A good, quick read. I'll gladly read more of this series!

Review: WHISKEY UNDONE by Carrie Ann Ryan!

My Review: My feels! Man, Carrie Ann Ryan hit me right in the emotions. Sure, this book is amazing, just like everything else this author writes, but I really felt an emotional connection with these characters, this story.. just the whole thing. I really feel like the author punched me right in the feelings, and I actually want to thank her for that. I mean, sure, I didn't really *want* to cry, but you know what, I'm still grateful. Just prepare yourself now.

I'm sad that this series is over. It just felt a little different than this author's usual work, more emotional, deeper.. just different. I love pretty much everything this author has written that I've gotten my hands on, but there was something special about this series. These will definitely be on my to-be-re-read list, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

Cover Lovin': Love it!

Recommendation: Each can be read as a stand-alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! Another amazing read from Carrie Ann Ryan!

Review: FALL by Kristen Callihan!

My Review: I don't think I have enough words to describe how I feel about this book. All I can think of is a high pitched squeal of pure joy and excitement. I have loved every book of this series, but this one beats the previous two by a mile. And I'm not sure what I thought was better, the romance itself, or Kristen Callihan's understanding of anxiety and depression. As someone who has both of those things, I nearly cried, because I was seeing these characters dealing with the same things I have. I know how they felt. It was so well done, and so real.

I could write pages and pages on how well this author treated mental illnesses in her writing, but I'm going to stick with what I said above - so, so well done. But it wasn't just that that made this book a winner, there was so much more. I loved John and Stella, their mannerisms, interests, emotions.. all felt so genuine. Add in that "family that you make for yourself" feel that John has with the band, and this book is a home run!!

Cover Lovin': I'm melting!

Recommendation: The band is close, so it helps having some of their back story, but this can be read without prior knowledge.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!!! I laughed, I cried, I added this to my favorites shelf!

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways. In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip. Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands. Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor. An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room. Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun. Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything. All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

AMAZON | APPLE BOOKS | B&N

The air between us shifts. I’m filled with a strange giddiness, wanting to laugh for the fun of it, but I’m also too warm, my limbs oddly heavy as if simple movements might be too much for me. His tone turns soft and cajoling, teasing the truth out of me. “Are you going to tell me what you do?” When I say nothing, the corners of his eyes crinkle. “I see. You’re going to torture me a bit.” The warm, fuzzy feeling grows as I shrug. “Torture feels apropos in this scenario.” He hums again, taking another step toward me. “What makes you think I won’t like being tortured by you?” The heat of his body and the scent of his skin makes my head light and my pulse pound. How did it get to this point where the highlight of my day is flirting with Jax Blackwood? Despite the thrill, I know I’m in over my head. I haven’t gone out on a date in months because I form attachments, I get emotional, and then I hurt when they inevitably leave. And this man will leave. He is as bright and fleeting as a camera flash. I’ll be left with the image of him seared into my memory and nothing more. I tell myself all of this, the voice in my head as stern as possible. But it doesn’t make me back away. It doesn’t stop my body from somehow straining toward his without even moving. Because it might be stupid of me, but I want to feel something that isn’t planned. Something, for however briefly, that’s real. He’s too attuned to me not to notice. John’s lids lower as his attention slides down my body before easing back up to my face. Slowly, he rests his forearm on the wall beside my head. “Tell me, Stella,” he murmurs. “No,” I whisper back, flirting, even though I shouldn’t. His biceps bunch as he leans in, a smile dancing on his lips. “Tell.” My breasts graze his chest, and I feel it in my toes. “You’re crowding me.” I hate how breathy I sound. “Can’t help it.” His voice is a rumble, the heat of his breath playing over my skin. He ducks his head, drawing close until our lips nearly brush, and when he speaks again, his tone is almost conversational, except for the husky quality that touches deep within my core. “You smell like strawberries. Fucking delicious.” My lids flutter, and I swallow hard. “Ordinarily, I’d call you out on that cliché but since I’ve been eating strawberries, you aren’t exactly wrong.” His chuckle is slow and easy, as he eases back and his gaze slowly travels over my face. “Were they sweet, Stella Button?” He’s looking at my mouth like he might try to find out. My lips tremble in response, and John tracks the movement, his breathing getting deeper, faster. “You have two freckles on your lips. One on the top lip and one on the bottom corner.” Those damn freckles. They were the bane of my adolescence. I hid them with lipstick and silently cursed whenever someone mentioned them. Freckles don’t have any feelings, but I swear it’s as if he’s touching them. “You’re just noticing this?” I try to make it sound like a joke, but it comes out weak and thready. His own lips quirk. “Oh, I noticed. It’s distracting as hell. They’re like two little dots of butter toffee. Makes me want to lick them, get a taste.” Oh, God. Lick them, please. I can almost feel it. I want to feel it. No. Bad Stella. Behave. John’s lips part a fraction like he just might take that taste. “Back off,” I whisper. And yet somehow my traitorous hands find their way to his sides, running over the waistband of his jeans, holding him there. John makes a sound deep in his throat and tilts his hips, pressing them against mine. A distinctly thick bulge nudges my belly. Both of us lose a breath, and then he’s closer, his cheek touching my temple. “You’ll have to let me go first.” My thumbs slide under the edge of his shirt and find smooth, taut skin. A tremor goes through his body. I try to think, search for what the hell we’ve been talking about. His lips brush the crest of my cheek as he murmurs against my skin. “Tell me what you do, Stella. You know you want to.” My smile feels illicit. Somehow the action is directly tied to all my happy parts, making them draw hot and tight. “I don’t think I do.” Another hum. “Liar. You’re dying to.”   Kristen Callihan is an author because there is nothing else she’d rather be. She is a three-time RITA nominee and winner of two RT Reviewer’s Choice awards. Review: REVELING IN SIN by Meghan March!

My review: Would it be over the top for me to give this six out of five stars? Maybe... but it would feel oh-so-right. And well deserved, because just like previous Meghan March series... she ended this with a bang. She just makes me feel so much! She hurts me, and I end up thanking her for it. My emotions went for a several hour roller coaster ride, and I'm not sure I will ever really recover from it. But hey... I'll be the first in line when she releases something else, because she hurts me so good.

This picks up right where the previous book left off, so don't even dare thinking about reading this without having read the previous two. Finally, our questions are answered - we learn more about the Lincoln and Whitney's past, and what lead them to today, and it's everything I needed it to be. I refuse to spoil this for you all, so read it NOW! This series, and Meghan March in general, is highly recommended!

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with the rest.

Recommendation: You *MUST* read the previous books first.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!! Holy cow, what a way to end the series! If you haven't read any of these yet, get to it!!!

Whitney Gable is the kind of woman you fight to the death to protect. To keep. To cherish. I’ve finally learned my lesson, and it’s time to prove I’m the man who’s worthy of her. I don’t care what it takes, because failure is not an option. No matter who or what stands in our way—this time, she’ll be mine forever

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a brand new saga of forbidden love and second chances.   A Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after. Our family feud is the stuff of legends. Ten years ago, Whitney Gable caught me off guard with her long legs and grab-you-by-the-balls blue eyes. I didn’t know or care what her name was. Like any Riscoff worth the family name, I went after what I wanted. We burned like a flash fire until she married another man. She hates me, and she should. I objected on her wedding day. Now she’s home, with those same long legs and man-eater stare, but there’s no ring on her finger. They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after . . . but I’m not done with Whitney Gable. I’ll never be done with her. iBooks | Amazon US | Amazon UK | Amazon AU | Amazon CA | Kobo | BN | Audible     Guilty until proven innocent. That’s the way the world works, right? I’m tired of being convicted without evidence, all because my last name is Gable. The Riscoffs might own this town, but I’m done following their rules. If only I could forget just how easily Lincoln Riscoff can drag me under his spell.

I clear my throat. “While I was eating my ice cream—” He snorts, but remains tense. “I thought about how you looked familiar to me.” “It was the guilt haunting you.” “Or … And I’m just throwing this out there. You’re Jax Blackwood.” He actually flinches. “Fuck. You recognized me.” “It was bound to happen. John? Really?” His chin tips in a pugnacious angle. “It’s my name. John is … me. Jax is who I am onstage.” I picture him performing, all electric energy and raw passion and sheer talent. It’s a sight to behold. Hell, a couple of really hot fantasies have been induced by that sight. While I’m lost in a teen fantasy, his eyes dart around like he’s expecting someone to pop out from behind a snow mound and take his picture. Then his gaze snags on me. My expression must be slightly punch drunk, because his entire body leans away from mine. Not exactly flattering to realize he’s afraid I’ll try to lick his face or something. I snap my gaping mouth closed. “Oh, calm down. It’s not like I’m going to start squealing and try to grab your junk.” His expression lightens a little. “I think if you grabbed my junk, I’d be the one squealing.” “True. I have surprisingly strong hands.” When he stares at me in horror, I hold them up and wiggle my fingers. “Yoga. It’s highly effective.” “My balls just flinched in terror.” “Consider yourself warned.” He snorts but then glances at our building. “You really live here?” “Do you really think I hunted you down?” John—because I can’t seem to think of him as Jax—runs his hand through his damp hair, which makes his biceps bunch and twitch. “Yeah … that does sound crazy.” Crazy. This whole situation is. One day, I’m offered a four-month home in a dream condo, the next I’m standing on my stoop talking to a rock star. The biggest legend of my generation. I honestly don’t know how I’m not stammering right now. “I can’t believe we’re neighbors,” I say without thinking. His green eyes glint in the afternoon light, but he pauses and looks at me more closely. “You know, not to sound conceited here, but you’re kind of leering at me right now.” My chin snaps up like I’ve been hit, even as my body flushes with embarrassment. Shit. I totally had been leering. No, not leering. But I had been staring at him in awe. Ugh. “Well, you do sound conceited. I was simply making polite eye contact.” Liar McLiar-Face.           Kristen Callihan is an author because there is nothing else she’d rather be. Review & Excerpt: ONCE UPON A WILD FLING by Lauren Blakely!

My Review: Dang it Lauren Blakely - you did it again! Once more, I could not put the book down - I was nearly late for work! Make sure you cancel all your plans before starting this book, you won't want to do anything else until you finish it, trust me.

I loved Roxy and Miles. I mean LOVED them. First off, they just have such fantastic names. But mostly, I loved them because they were just so dang lovable. They had a beautiful connection, and I cannot stress enough how much of a joy it was to read about them getting closer and falling in love. Now excuse me while I go sigh and daydream about getting a Miles of my very own...

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: Each book can be read as a stand alone - but you'll want to read the rest, trust me!

EXCERPT:
~ROXY~
I find Miles behind a stage that has probably witnessed high school graduations, speeches, and musicals. His eyes take a leisurely stroll up and down my body. The way he stares, every zone in my body feels erogenous. Especially the boob zone, where he spends more time than usual.
When he slides his gaze up to my face, he looks hypnotized, then he shakes it off and brings me in for a hug. “So glad you’re here, Rox. Now go enjoy the show, and I’ll find you the second we’re done.”
Once it starts, I do enjoy the show. I never saw the Heartbreakers in concert when they were in their heyday. I’ve never been a concert person. Not that I’m opposed to music, but my mother set a precedent when I was in the eighth grade and my friends had a chance to see P!nk perform. I asked her if I could go, but the next day I had to take the prep school entrance exam, so the answer was no.
It’s a better use of your time to stay in and study,” she’d said.
That’s what I mostly did in high school, listening to music on the radio as I worked through math problems and wrote essays on the Vietnam War. The Heartbreakers kept me company that way. Later, when Miles became a solo artist, I’d find myself humming his tunes when I heard them play in Starbucks, or while riding the escalator at Bed Bath & Beyond.
I became a fan, but I’m not a fangirl like some of the others here tonight. I don’t just mean the women. The Heartbreakers have fanboys and fangirls, singing along, belting out tunes. They’re crowding the stage, and the security guards hired when the Heartbreakers were confirmed for the event are standing on alert, arms crossed. Fortunately, there are no bras or panties thrown at the stage, nor briefs or belts either. I’m glad Miles’s high school class is full of fans but not crazy groupies.
The music reverberates in the gymnasium as the trio of gorgeous brothers sings love songs and fun songs and sexy songs while disco balls twirl from the ceiling and strobe lights flash.
When the set nears the end and they dive into one of Miles’s most popular solo tunes, a love song called “Today,” I swear his eyes find mine in the crowd as he sings about yesterdays and tomorrows. The way he sings turns the tingles into sparks, and I’m feeling it now for sure—that click, click, click of my heart, or maybe it’s my hormones.
Whatever it is, my breath comes faster as I dance.
When the show ends and the band thanks the crowd, that’s my cue to find him backstage. He’s sweaty, and I’ve never found sweat so sexy before. He drapes an arm around me, drops a kiss to my cheek, and says, “Hey, sexy bodyguard.”
My voice is a little breathier than I expect as I reply, “Reporting for duty.”

My brother's best friend has a proposition for me. Have I mentioned he's a sexy single dad? Tell me more...

There are a million reasons why Miles Hart isn't the man I should date but allow me to enumerate the top three. He's friends with my brother, he's a single dad, and he's a sexy, in-demand rock star. He might as well wear an off-limits, totally unavailable, and don't-even-attempt-to-ride-this-ride sign. Then he asks me to be his plus-one when his band plays at his high school reunion, and the night unfolds in ways I never expect. *** I have three good reasons to keep my hands off Roxy Sterling--her brother's my business manager and good buddy, my kid is the center of my world, and the last time I fell hard for a woman I was burned so badly that my interest in relationships has gone up in flames. But once I bring Roxy's body next to mine on the dance floor, I want all the not-safe-for-work things I can't have with her. So I make a proposition.

Then I learn exactly how risky we might be.

My Review: Here we have yet another awesome Cougar Creek book! This time, it's Flint's turn to come down with the plague that seems to be running through his family - finding his mate. I will be honest, Flint annoyed me a little when he showed up in the earlier books, but he really grew on me here. I loved his habit of saying the exact opposite of what he meant, and how that just got him further and further into trouble.

Each brother is similar, but yet so distinctly different. I love how Heaton can give me something unique about each one, yet still make sure I get what I love about them - that protectiveness. We also get a glimpse at more of the supernatural world, outside of cougar and bear shifters, and this hint makes me eager for more.

This book had a different tone than the previous two. It seemed to focus more on shifter politics, and less on the sexy times. But I loved seeing more of the rules of the cougar shifters, and to see how hard Flint was willing to fight to claim his mate.

Cover Lovin': Series perfection.

Recommendation: Can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading the previous books first.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! Another awesome Cougar Creek book. I loved Flint, and it was so cool to see more of the supernatural world!

About the Book

Courted by her Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates Shifter Romance Series Book 3)
Felicity Heaton
Madness is sweeping through Cougar Creek, and Flint wants no part of it. The fever has two of his brothers in love already, and Flint is damned if he’s giving up the bachelor life to tie himself to one female, but when a perimeter sweep has him running into an exotic and enthralling beauty who rouses his instincts as a cougar shifter and a male, the hunt is on.
All Yasmin is interested in is making sure her friend, Ivy, is safe, but the alluring black-haired man with a wicked smile she meets on the path to the creek has her thinking about other things. When an incident at Cougar Creek leads to her revealing a secret, and Flint’s persistence pushes her to a rash decision, her entire world is in danger of being turned upside down.
With the gathering in full swing, and males determined to prove their worth to Yasmin, Flint discovers he’s not immune to the madness sweeping through the creek, because he’ll do whatever it takes to claim victory and win Yasmin’s heart… no matter how dangerous it is.

Excerpt
When Rath moved towards his cabin, Flint followed, keeping an eye on Yasmin as she noticed his brother approaching. Her smile faltered a little, but it returned as Rath stepped up onto the deck and offered her a warm one.
And a cold beer.
“Crack me one open too.” Flint parked his ass against the railing to the left of the door of the one and a half storey log cabin and shot Yasmin a charming smile. “So, a doctor, huh?”
Her chocolate eyes lost all warmth as she leaned back in her chair beside Ivy and folded her arms across her chest. “If you’re dreaming up scenarios where I’m wearing my white coat, I recommend you stop now, before you end up disappointed, and possibly sexually frustrated.”
He rolled his shoulders in an easy shrug. “Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been sexually frustrated. I’ll take the risk.”
He was frustrated ninety-nine percent of the time he was at a gathering. He didn’t even find any respite in sleep. The damned females haunted his dreams too, his cougar side so wound up by the urge to mate that he dreamed about what he couldn’t have in reality.
She rolled her eyes at him and turned her cheek, glancing Ivy’s way. “Is he always like this?”
Ivy regarded him with cool hazel eyes, ones that didn’t give away what she was thinking.
He waited, not with bated breath, because whatever opinion she had, he could sway it. Just as he was sure he could sway Yasmin into spending a night or two warming his bed. She wasn’t part of the gathering, which meant she was fair game.
Beautiful fair game at that.
With her olive skin, and lush glossy black waves tumbling down from her loose bun, and those rich earthy eyes that held just a hint of spice, flecks of gold that seemed to shimmer whenever she smiled, or burn hot whenever he pressed a button and her temper flared, she was every inch a goddess before he even took into account her killer curves and breasts that could more than fill his hands.
“I think he’s salivating,” Yasmin muttered nonchalantly to someone, a teasing note of warmth in her gentle voice that convinced him that she was speaking to Ivy. “Does he often drool over women?”
Firm fingers pressing under his chin to snap his mouth closed had him frowning at Rath where he stood in the door of the cabin to his left.
That frown verged on becoming a growl when he realised Yasmin had been speaking with his brother in that warm, light tone.
Rath stared him down, a hint of gold colouring his irises around his pupils that had Flint growing aware of the change in his own irises and the pure undiluted anger that flowed through his veins, pushing him to challenge his brother.
Over Yasmin.
He shook off the urge to fight and snagged the brown tall-neck bottle from his brother.
“Perhaps he’s hormonal? Pent up?” Yasmin cast another teasing glance at him before looking to Ivy and then Rath. “It’s my official diagnosis as a doctor that this is a case of blue balls.”
He shot Rath daggers, warning him not to rise to the bait as he so clearly wanted.
“There are plenty of women in the area. You could run along to take care of business. I’m sure we won’t miss you.” Yasmin unfolded her arms, and if she was going to shoo him away, he was going to make her regret it.
“Not interested.” He crossed his left arm over his chest, gripped his side and frowned as he swigged his beer. It was still early, the sun not close to setting yet, but damn, he needed the drink, craved the crisp coldness and the hot slide of it down his throat.
She chuckled at that, and he turned his glare on her.
She instantly fell silent.
He couldn’t tell whether it was because she regretted her words, or because his eyes were gold now, a flare of emerald emerging around his pupils as his cougar side got the better of him, his temper stoked by the irritating way she seemed to see straight through him.
Or maybe it was the way their eyes locked.
He couldn’t look away, fell into the deep, soulful brown pools of hers, drawn into them in a way he had never experienced before.
As if she had cast a spell on him.
He had seen plenty of beautiful women, had bedded most of them, but something about Yasmin had him losing himself whenever his eyes found hers, or entranced by her whenever she moved. Gods, she was graceful. Every action she made was fluid and serene, made somehow beautiful by her.
Even when she broke eye contact and lifted her beer to her rosy full lips. The way she brought her arm up, the tilt of her head, the delicate movement of her throat as she swallowed.
Damn, she was grace embodied.
A fucking goddess.
Rath cleared his throat, jolting Flint back to the world.
“I should thank you for teaching Ivy how to handle any problems that might arise when she’s alone on an expedition,” his older brother said, capturing Yasmin’s focus. Even the way she swung her gaze around and up to Rath’s face was full of grace. Rath saluted her with his beer. “It certainly helped me.”
“Ivy is resourceful. I’m sure she would have been able to help you without my training.” Yasmin glanced at her friend.
Was she graceful in everything she did? She wouldn’t even take the praise Rath had offered, had deflected it back on Ivy, as if she didn’t want his brother’s gratitude.
“I know a little about field medicine, but I wouldn’t say no to learning more.” Flint felt her gaze landing on his as a hot shiver that tripped down his spine, sending warmth spreading through him.
“You wouldn’t say no to much, I think,” she retorted and he frowned at that.
She had been off with him since the woods, had changed markedly from one moment to the next, and he wasn’t sure what he had done to deserve it. He racked his brain, trying to recall everything he had said to her so she could find out what had caused her to lose all the warmth she had shown him when he had been trying to get her to leave.
And what had made her think he was some sort of pent up, sex starved male on the prowl to get his hands on her fine ass.
Which he was, but she didn’t need to paint him with that brush for all to see.
“Listen, Doc,” he started, but Ivy spoke over him.
“Yasmin, I’d love to learn more while you’re here. I know you, and you probably desperately need a vacation that you pretend you don’t, but I’d really appreciate it. Please?” Ivy clutched her friend’s hand, her smile bright and dazzling, and if Yasmin said no to that little angel, she was a cold-hearted bitch.
“Of course.” Yasmin’s smile lit up the world, sent a pleasant light sort of heat spiralling through him and had him losing grip on reality again as he slipped back under her spell.
She had a smile that could fell the hardest of males.
The Devil himself wouldn’t stand a chance against her.
“Can I get in on those lessons?” Rath piped up and Flint barely bit back the growl that rumbled up his throat.
There his brother went again, trying to get close to Yasmin.
Wasn’t that his job?
His brother had asked him to do the recon work on her, and now he was trying to butt in and Flint wasn’t going to take it.
“We could do a group thing.” He regretted it the moment he said it.
Yasmin turned wide eyes on him, her horror clear in them, and Ivy looked unsure whether to be as horrified as her friend or laugh at his plight as he scrubbed a hand over his unruly black hair and frantically back-peddled.
“Not an orgy… because that would be really wrong… I mean… Rath is my brother for a start.” He glanced at Rath and caught the flare of aggression he had sensed in him shining in his eyes too. Rath curled his hands into tight fists at his sides, and Flint held his up, palms facing him as he leaned back. “Ivy is all yours, Man. I’m not interested… I meant like a group lesson… I really do want to learn more about field medicine.”
Yasmin looked as if she was going to deny him again.
So he played his ace.
“I run a tour guide company up north, in a very remote area. It would be useful for me to know how to handle any incidents that might occur. I mean, bears can be dangerous and while I haven’t had anyone attacked yet, who knows when it might happen?” He grinned inside as her face softened. If playing on the compassionate side of her that had probably led to her choosing a career in medicine, and had led to her teaching her close friend how to take care of any wounds she might end up with in the wild, made him a bastard, then he was a bastard of the highest order. He could practically see her will crumbling as he continued, “I’ve had to treat a few sprains and stings, but what if someone is attacked by a bear? I don’t know how to handle that. If I can’t do all I can to help them, the person would probably die before the air ambulance could reach us.”
“Fine, I’ll teach you.” She tilted her chin up, her tone losing its softness as she held his gaze. “But the second you try flirting with me over a suture kit or making an innuendo about… well… anything… you’re out.”
Harsh, and not fair.
No way he could stop himself from flirting with her, not over a suture kit and not over anything. He wanted her, and she knew it. What she was asking of him, it was impossible. He couldn’t just switch off this attraction he felt to her, the burning she had ignited the moment she had stood up to him in the woods, revealing a fiery side of her that had made his instincts label her as a challenge.
He liked a good challenge.
Something told him that Yasmin would be the most difficult, most rewarding challenge he had ever known.
That only made him want her even more.
So he crossed his heart like a good boy, just so he could get closer to her.
Not because he wanted to spy on her for his brother.
But because he needed to be close to her, needed to do everything in his power, pulling out all the stops, until she gave in to him.
