Drawing or Painting?
Back to coloured pencils for this bird for when I need a break from etching and the graded unit for college.
I have no idea why it bugs me, but it does when people call coloured pencil work paintings, its not paint. Then again, pastel works are called paintings, so I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run. I call them drawings since it is a pencil used, but die hard coloured pencil users freak on me for it....relax people, its only a pencil :p
Oooo I know you are going to make one kick ass peacock! They are so pretty.
ReplyDeletethank you :)
DeleteWell - it's the people who want their pencil work to be mistaken for an oil painting that get upset about it! And there are people who think drawing is less of a skill or more of a beginner thing. I think both of those are wrong. I don't think there is anything wrong with it being a drawing. Sherry Camhy goes into a big discussion in her book Art of the Pencil.
ReplyDeleteyeah a lot of people sadly see drawing as a lesser form of art :/ haven;t read that book, will have to look for it :)
DeletePencils are so bright and would be a luscious way to finish a peacock.
ReplyDeletei am hoping i can keep the blues nice and bright :)
DeleteI call myself a pencil artist and my work 'drawings' but I guess the line gets a bit fuzzy if you use watercolour pencils with water (I use mine dry) or even wax pencils with solvent .....
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing progress on the peacock. We saw so many of the gorgeous birds when we were in India at the beginning of the year - fantastic colours!
yeah it does get a bit harder as to whaat to call a piece of work when you use something like watercolour pencils
DeleteLooking at you photos you posted, there was so much colour everywhere in India :)
