Showing posts with the label Birds

Throwback Thursday

Image
An etching from 2014 done for college. I pretty much had free reign with the printing press so I spent a lot of time using it.

Eagle Owl #1

Image
This is going to look so odd until I get more of the bird done. And yes its another bird etching but I also started a wolf etching to work on at the same time to prove I can etch something other than birds lol. I am doing uni work at the same time but this stuff is for when I need a break. There is only so much reading you can do about branding and indigenous populations before you need a break. And someone who will remain nameless jumped on the bed when no one was paying attention, when she shouldn't have and then tried to blend into the quilt so we wouldn't notice. At least her fur is growing back, starting to look less like a chicken leg.

Sunday Scribbles

Image
(#174) For todays scribbles, 3 more left hand sketches. I will probably be posting the whole of the week's left handed sketches on the Sunday now, since I go back to Uni in 2 weeks and wont have the time to do them everyday. Seven sketches is a lot to post in one day but I will try to make them small. 174 is a Saddle-billed stork , a big bird it seems. (#175) A tiny finch for this sketch and back to the big birds, an Ostrich for #176.  (#176)

Left Handed Sketches #172 & #173

Image
(#172) An Osprey, there are a few not too far from here but haven't tried to go see them since its probably a lucky day if you happen to see one. (#173) Another Hornbill, no idea what kind tho. I can tell if a bird is a Hornbill, but there are so many of them, I wouldn't be able to make a positive ID, I'm not a twitcher .

Touch of Red

Image
(left handed sketch #170) A Rose-breasted grosbeak with a very red spot on his chest so  had to get the coloured pens out for it. (left handed sketch #171)  This is an odd looking duck, a Spectacled eider . Neat looking but still odd looking. Looks like he has a mask on his nose.

Sunday Scribbles

Image
(left handed sketch #167) A northern spotted owl turning its head around backwards. Its actually very interesting to know how they rotate their heads so much.    (left handed sketch #168) This is a golden-breasted starling . Very pretty and colourful bird.   (left handed sketch #169) And a plain white duck :) Most people have seen a duck of some kind. There use to be a Sunday Sketches group over on Alexandra's blog where people could post links to their Sunday posts. I have had a few people say to me they miss it so after asking Alexandra if I could try to start another group linky, so I did. Post your Sunday art here so we can all see what you have created :) (hopefully the linky thing works *crosses fingers*)

Splash of Colour

Image
(Left Handed Sketch #165) I know I've drawn Toucans before for this challenge, but I haven't added any colour to the sketches and I should have with that big bright beak. This is another sketch that I wish I had of done on better paper, printer paper will only take so much ink from my coloured pens before it rips. (Left Handed Sketch #166) And a Red-winged blackbird . A splash of bright colour on their wings, very bright against all that black.

Quack Quack

Image
(left handed sketch #163) A smew duck, the male is very pretty mostly white bird.  (left handed sketch #164) An attempt at drawing a flying seagull, could have been better but still have problems with perspective with my left hand. I swear if it doesn't stop raining here soon we are going to have to build an arc, snakes welcome, wasps not.

Sunday Sketches

Image
(left handed sketch #160) A cute little love bird, they are cute but I don't know much about them. (left handed sketch #161) A random owl, have no idea which kind, possibly a Tawny Owl. (left handed sketch #162) And this is a Hoatzin , a very smelly bird but a really interesting one. The young have claws on their wings. I think I have figured out how I can continue the left handed 365 once uni starts. If I draw all the weeks sketches on one day and post them on a Sunday I might be able to keep sketching. Its changing the "rules" but would still mean I can try to get 365 left handed sketches done.  I am going to start a group link for sketches/doodles/etc that people post on Sunday. A lot of people seem to miss seeing what people post on Sunday (and I did ask if Alexandra would mind if I did start something). Hopefully will have it for next Sunday so look out for that. :)

Mr. Angry

Image
(left handed sketch #158) This is one of my favourite bids, a Harpy Eagle . The are just so majestic and HUGE. They have a wingspan of 176 to 224 cm (5 ft 9 in to 7 ft 4 in), see they are HUGE. (left handed sketch #159) And most of a Flamingo drawn for this sketch, I ran out of space. Still not use to spacing with my left hand. I added an Instagram and widget to my blog side bar so people can see it easier, and also added a widget to my Zazzle store since I have decided to use it more. I use Instagram stories a lot to show what is going on in the day so check that out if you want to know what I am up to.

MS is so much Fun

Image
(#156) I had all kinds of plans today to get so much work done, work more on the 3D dragon, work on an etching, work on website redesign but that didn't happen. MS kicked my ass today, too tired to do much but watch tutorials for After Effects and get 2 left handed sketches finished. (#157) Neuropathic pain is hard to deal with, throw in musculoskeletal pain, and I'm in a fair amount of pain. Can't  sleep, I can't really do much since my feet are so painful to touch or walk on, my hands are numb and hurt. Its a type of pain that is hard to describe, feels on fire, like ants are crawling everywhere, and numb at the same time. I can't take anything for it so it is a case of just grin and bare it. I don't write that often about MS, but today it is hard to ignore. Tomorrow is another day to try to get things done, and days like this I am glad we have a dishwasher lol

Sunday Sketches

Image
A tiny tiny hummingbird for left handed sketch #154. a puffin for #155 and a hornbill for #156. I tried to draw a swimming puffin, didn't work that well lol. Try again later since I love puffins and want to try to go see them in the wild since there is a few places not that far away I could. Just have to watch the cliffs and probably tie a rope to John so I don't fall lol.

Quack

Image
A red crested pochard for left handed sketch #151, and a sandhill crane for #152.

Left Handed Sketches #149 & #150

Image
A parakeet for #149 and a Village weaver for #150. I haven't seen any weaver birds other than on tv, but its neat to see them build their hanging nests.

Sunday Sketches

Image
Three more left handed sketches of birds, a heron (#146), a turkey vulture, (#147) and a pelican (#148). I use to see turkey vultures all the time in Ontario soaring in the sky, they are pretty big birds, not the most pretty of things but they serve a purpose getting rid of the road kill.

Robin Red Breast

Image
Two types of Robins for todays left handed sketches. A European Robin, tiny and angry at everything but so cute you just laugh at the grumpy little things, (unless you are getting dive bombed by one and then you wish you had a giant flyswatter). For Sale And an American Robin, much bigger and I find not as angry as their tiny relatives. For Sale

Adding Colour

Image
I've had a few friends say to me I should try adding colour to some of my left hand sketches, so I did lol For Sale This is a Hyacinth Macaw , (#142). I wanted a very loose watercolour feel to it. basic colours so the lines don't get lost. For Sale A different, even more loose watercolour style for a Kingfisher (#143). I like both styles, and it would depend on the bird to which one I would use. A more flashy bird would obvs. get more colour to it.

Sunday Sketches

Image
3 more left handed sketches for today. A king vulture for #139, a Rockhopper penguin for #140, and a Uirapuru for #141.

Left Handed Sketches #137 & #138

Image
A lilac-breasted roller for #137, very pretty colourful birds. And a tiny, tiny Eurasian pygmy owl for #138, looks a little too catoony here but its cute lol

Left Handed Sketches #135 & #136

Image
A red-tailed black cockatoo for sketch #135. I've only seen them in zoos since they are an Australian bird. I ran out of paper to draw on for sketch #136 and its a bird I had never heard of before, a hamerkop . Working on too many things at once, so none of them is getting done but hopefully have something finished soon.
